If you are a Liberal you will view these shows as being Racist but if you are a conservative you will view it as Pure entertainment. I'm sure the actors doing the show would tell the Racist crowd to stuff it because they liked what they were doing and getting paid. Back in the 50's most shows only lasted 2 or 3 yrs--that's the way it was. I'm glad I can revisit these shows. As Fredd G Sanford would say often CASE CLOSED

The FUNNIEST show on TV EVER! In @What way is this Classic Show "Racist"?

An ALL Black cast in Prestigious roles.....Sanford and Son RIPPED this series off.and NO one called it "Racist"! It employed many Black actors..unheard of at the time....Grow up people!

The depiction of the actors follow the typecasting that was created through minstrel shows... you find comedy in caricatures that tend to stereotypical reinforcements, RACIST. Sorry... you aint gotta like it... but thats the way it is.

I am a hispanic in my 60's & how I wish they would put them back on t.v. It was one funny show! They were great/loveable characters, just like I Love Lucy-Jackie Gleason Show-I Married Joan- The Phil Silvers Show, Chico & The Man- Sanford & Son etc. We were not laughing at them, we appreciated their masterful comedy! GREAT show from the 50's! Bring it Back pleasssse!!

It was the same format with Tony Hancock and Sid James in "The Hancock half hour" a British sit-com in the fifties and sixties where Sid James was always trying to pull a move on Tony Hancock...funny is funny and Amos and Andy is well funny

"Amos and Andy" proved that Blacks were equally talented, but were removed from the air because there was a very vocal group of Blacks who felt that all Blacks were being shown in a poor light. Apparently they never viewed the programs with an open mind, but were rather looking for anything to fill their preconceived opinions. - Regretfully, today it is BET, itself, that portrays Blacks as various kinds of degenerates, low-lifes and stupid individuals.

I am a 60 year old white male and this show was one of my favorites! It made me laugh a lot and the actors were as good as any others at the time.

Not all the characters were comedic. There were black judges, Police officers, lawyers, etc. All my friends and I thought this show was great. Does anyone think Sanford and son is racist? I do and it's not half as funny as Amos and Andy!!!

The show at the time was made in the 1950's when racial tension at the time were at large, black people were treated less than the average white person. this show was to portray them just like "black face" is to portray the black community at the time. it was made to gain profits and since the sponsors were all white thats where the money came from. now adays no company would put their way behin

He is for Blacks being accepted as people, recognizing the truth that as within all races there are people as the conniving Kingfish, the under-achieving Andy, and the wonderful, successful, family man Amos! In "Amos and Andy" the overwhelming majority of the Blacks shown were just normal, hard working people from all walks of life. Not once was profanity used, no infidelity shown, no drugs, etc. It was a great show!
