Acts 20 does not refer to a complete apostasy. Instead it refers to people being mislead by false teachings. If you believe in a complete apostasy then you are calling Jesus a liar. Why? Because He promised the church would last (Matt 16:19), He would always be with it (Matt 28:20) and the Holy Spirit would guide it (John 14:16,26; John 16:13) The Mormon Church is part of the false teachers that the Bible warns us of. If youll notice that Jesus refers to the rock of the church as a THIS which means an object or idea. THIS is NEVER used to refer to a human living breathing person.
Jesus is referring to the statement which Peter made two verses prior where he acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God. Then Jesus looks at Peter and says flesh and blood did not reveal this to you but my Father Who is in heaven. THEN Jesus looks at Peter and says upon THIS (revelation of Jesus) rock, etc.
Furthermore, the fact that Peter can be tied to Petros which means rock in greek is meaningless. In Aramaic, Peter was called Simon Bar Jona which does not mean Greek in Aramaic.

FIRST, let me make it clear that the Bible certainly DOES contain a lot of truths, and EVERYTHING in it is in it for a reason. However, this is not our topic.
SECOND, there are a great many things (and events) which are perfectly true (and good) which are NOT in the Bible. Geometrical formulas, the use of anti-biotics, and the battles of the American Revolution are nowhere in the pages of the Bible. Nor does the Bible tell a man to remember his wife's birthday, but he should. It does not tell baseball players to autograph baseballs for young boys, but they should.
THEREFORE, the first conclusion we MUST draw is that although the Bible (rightly understood) is the word of God, there are good things which man should do which are NOT in the Bible, and good acts (by definition) are in accord with God's will for man.
There are, however some (so called) "Fundamentalists" who will argue that ALL good things are implied by some passage in Scripture. Although this is a completely non-defensible position, let us (simply to expose it) evaluate it impartially. Such a position is based upon the assumption that one can make "implications" based upon one's personal opinion of what the Bible may "actually mean."
But nowhere in the Bible does it say: "thou shalt make implications to support one's own opinions." Therefore, in order to find "implications", and then base beliefs upon them, one must go beyond the Bible to do so. If one does this, then one CANNOT then turn around and say that ONLY what is in the Bible should be followed.
Therefore, in order to find "implications", and then base beliefs upon them, one must go beyond the Bible to do so. To put it in other words: to base one's beliefs "entirely" upon the Bible, one must immediately violate the "principle" by going outside it to find justification for this very position.

BUT, on this there is another, and perhaps more important point. This is one thing which the Bible itself tells us is NOT in the Bible. And this one thing is VERY important to real Christians. And this thing is ALL of the teachings of Jesus.
Jesus Himself told us that:
His followers must live by every word which God gives us (Mt 4:4).
When Jesus spent two days in the Samaritan village TEACHING, so that many came to believe in Him, (Jn 4:40), NOT a single word is recorded of what He said...but these words did NOT pass away. When Jesus taught for HOURS on end - for so long that the crowd became hungry -- NOT a word of what He said was recorded (Mk 6:34)...but we must live by them nonetheless.
Either Jesus meant it when He promised His followers that they would know truth (Jn 8:32), and truth must include His teachings, or of what use is it?
After all, if those words (the ones which the Bible makes reference to but does NOT record) must have been of importance because people came to believe in Him because of them. And therefore, if one takes Jesus seriously, then one must hold that going "beyond the Bible," is not only proper and necessary, but a vital sign of true Christianity. And anyone who says otherwise cannot be taking the words of Jesus as having any value at all.
Therefore, when something is NOT in the Bible, it may be something good, or true, or nice. But some things not directly contained in the Bible are guaranteed to be one thing: they are the ACTUAL TEACHINGS of Jesus Himself by which His true followers MUST live.
And since Lord JESUS quoted from Genesis, that makes HIM a liar, too, according to the Catholic "church." If the world is billions, not thousands of years old, then the Bible & all of Christianity are wrong!
You see how anti-Christian the Roman Catholic "church" is? Please do your soul a big favor & LEAVE it before it's too late. Unbelivers & disobedient people will all burn in Hell. You have been warned.

Sola Scriptura does not tell you what books belong in the Bible. You needed an infallible church to determine that. While [2 Timothy 3:16] says every thing in the Bible is true, it does not say the Bible is the only source of truth nor does it say which books belong in the Bible.

If you study the subject concerning the warnings given by the Apostles...Mainly Paul, then Peter, and James and John also Jude and Philemon you will find a multitude of scriptures given to warning the churches that false teachers and false doctrine was flourishing among them.
In fact, the whole reason Paul wrote the letter to the Galatians was because a group called the Judaizers infiltrated that church and claimed to have been 'sent' by Paul.

It was restored in bits and pieces beginning with the Reformation. But the poisonous seeds of catholicism were still among the reformers and the early protestants.

Paul is recorded in Acts of saying that he felt it was already to late to turn the tide of false doctrines that had overtaken the churches. Peter indicated this also in his 2 small epistles.
Even Paul told Timothy concerning other leaders and lay people in the churches that 'All seek THEIR OWN.'
There were warning signs even then.
If you read the writings of Ignatius just 40 years after Peters death youll find he is either copying Paul verbatim or contradicting him.

I often say of Ignatius that he stood in the shadow of the Apostles but not in the light of the Apostles. There is much he wrote that is just very odd and the polar opposite of Paul's heart and motives which are indicated in all of his writings.
Then move forward to Irenaeus of Lyons. He was a philosopher who was basically creatively re thinking established doctrine given by Jesus and the Apostles.
So just in the first 2 and half centuries things went haywire.

Acts 20 does not refer to a complete apostasy. Instead it refers to people being mislead by false teachings. If you believe in a complete apostasy then you are calling Jesus a liar. Why? Because He promised the church would last (Matt 16:19), He would always be with it (Matt 28:20) and the Holy Spirit would guide it (John 14:16,26; John 16:13) The Mormon Church is part of the false teachers that the Bible warns us of. If youll notice that Jesus refers to the rock of the church as a THIS which means an object or idea. THIS is NEVER used to refer to a human living breathing person.
Jesus is referring to the statement which Peter made two verses prior where he acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God. Then Jesus looks at Peter and says flesh and blood did not reveal this to you but my Father Who is in heaven. THEN Jesus looks at Peter and says upon THIS (revelation of Jesus) rock, etc.

Do you know that the word 'OF' is a prepositional phrase and not an equal sign?
When ever you see a preposition it is to further describe in relation the object of the preposition in this case it would be CHURCH.

If you would notice in 1 Tim 3:15, the Bible says that the church is the pillar and foundation of truth. The Catholic Church being the church that Jesus himself founded would then be within all right to say "We are the pillar and ground for all truth". It isn't the Church that said it first, the Church is just relaying what the Bible says about it.

These people go beyond the Bible to defend the position that no one should go "beyond the Bible." Such silly hypocrisy cannot be considered as serious by any rational person. And no intelligent person does.

BUT, on this there is another, and perhaps more important point. This is one thing which the Bible itself tells us is NOT in the Bible. And this one thing is VERY important to real Christians. And this thing is ALL of the teachings of Jesus.
Jesus Himself told us that:
His followers must live by every word which God gives us (Mt 4:4).
His words would not pass away (Mk 13:31).

What does the Bible say on this subject?
When Jesus spent two days in the Samaritan village TEACHING, so that many came to believe in Him, (Jn 4:40), NOT a single word is recorded of what He said...but these words did NOT pass away. When Jesus taught for HOURS on end - for so long that the crowd became hungry -- NOT a word of what He said was recorded (Mk 6:34)...but we must live by them nonetheless.

After all, if those words (the ones which the Bible makes reference to but does NOT record) must have been of importance because people came to believe in Him because of them. And therefore, if one takes Jesus seriously, then one must hold that going "beyond the Bible," is not only proper and necessary, but a vital sign of true Christianity. And anyone who says otherwise cannot be taking the words of Jesus as having any value at all.

Therefore, when something is NOT in the Bible, it may be something good, or true, or nice. But some things not directly contained in the Bible are guaranteed to be one thing: they are the ACTUAL TEACHINGS of Jesus Himself by which His true followers MUST live.

Doesn't Gen1 say God made man after the vegetation of the earth, then Gen2 say before any shrub of the field, or rain on the earth He created man. Which is it? before or after? That is why Sola Scritpura without an authority to interpret it (without contradicting it) is necessary.

bring the Good News, not just to deliver books. If that was the case Jesus would have been born in a time of printing presses and recording equipment. No matter what you say the dead word on page is not the Living Word amongst Christ's followers. Doesn't the Bible say; '..if your right hand causes you to sin then cut it off, ...' Unless your going to tell me everyone in your church is sinless; I should see alot of amputees and eyeless people. Unless of course you are INTERPRETING scriptures to mean something else. Even Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for keeping to the 'letter' of the Law (Sola Scriptura) and not the 'spirit' of the Law (interpretation of scriptures). If Jesus wanted His followers to live "by the Bible alone" (as some Protestants say), He must have said this and it must have been recorded somewhere in the Bible...BUT He never did. And if He said it and it's not recorded, then (once again!) we have to go beyond the very Bible to defend not going "beyond the Bible".

No matter what, no real Christian can ever hold that something extra-Biblical is anti-Biblical. So, because something cannot be found (to your satisfaction) somewhere in the Bible means nothing at all as to whether it is truly from God or not.

Once again Psalm 90:4, 2Peter3:8. So is it 6 days in our time; or six days in God's time (6000 yrs for creation). Should I depend on you to interpret for me? Or should I ask the direct descendants of the Apostles, or how about asking God who said He made everything as a sign of His Goodness; then threw in false markers of time to trick us?!?! I have 100% faith in Scripture, just not any faith in your understanding of them or your idea of Sola Scriptura.

You see why I don't have much respect for you Catholics? If you are looking at the PAST, then 1 day = 1 day. However, the Bible says for PREDICTIONS or things in the FUTURE, then 1 day = 1,000 days.
But since you're a typical Bible-dumb Catholic, I won't hold it against you.
So to answer your silly little question, you SHOULD NOT depend on neither your false "church" nor me nor anyone else to interpret the Bible for you. The Bible forbids this because it forbids personal interpretations!!!

In either case I know what you are doing here is not of Christ, or even a close reflection of Christ from what I have read in the New Testament (on my own, just as you say). If you are sincere in your quest I certainly hope you reflect on this; for we both know the consequences are tremendous.
