I'm 17 years old, female. When I was 14 I was put in rehab for severe meth addiction, which almost took my life many times. I have grown up with Tracey Chapman thanks to my mother. I heard this song while i was in treatment, and listened to it today, it defines exactly what I've been through the last four years I've been aware of my addiction. After many relapses, I've now been sober for over a year. I listen to this song for hope and to remember where I've been. <3

all I can say is that your music entered my life when I thought all was going where it need, from all the struggles that i have gone through since age 7 yrs. To be able to have the children i always wanted, to being able to love the man who made me the real me, to taking a chance of the impossible for a single mom of 4 kids owner a piece of property being on welfare and food stamps to having 2 jobs and running rental property, to needing very little welfare help but 11$'s in food stamps

I've loved her music for a while now, and she is amazing. Just today though I really discovered this song "Be and Be Not Afraid." I just can't help but feel everything that this woman is as a songwriter. Musically it is incredibly simple, but lyrically it's immaculate, as usual. Her voice is so soft, but strong and delivering. I recall what a co-worker of mine once said about her songs: Tracy Chapman's song are like chants!!
