When the first flight simulator I did I wanted to become a pilot and get my license at meigs because I live kinda close to it but Daley had to fuck up that dream of mine when I was 10. However Rahm Emanuel is even worse and actually probably the worst mayor Chicago will ever have

i'm severely disappointed in daley for this. i am generally in line with his philosophy, but not his despotic methods. however, i just can't abide this.

I am sure there are better airports than Meigs, but none of them will be so special as Merril C. Meigs was. There's a file at FlightSim,com and Simviation to place Meigs airport back on FSX.

The FAA fined him and the city for tearing up the runway without approval or permission. the aircraft were allowed to takeoff from a taxiway before the airport was closed, then there tore up the taxiways and ramp. and tured the area into a park. I think the tower and building is still there.

Mayor Daley intended to create an opportunity for the building of a casino (along with the Trojan Horse of a "park"). The last time I was in Chicago, the front headline in the paper concerned the fight to prevent the Casino part. Cleveland Lakefront Airport is just like Meigs, well a little bigger. But it is surrounded by water and is near the Cleveland skyline.
