From what could tell the AR he was using was a 16 inch heavy barreled chambers for the Remington .223 or you might hear it called the 5.56x45mm NATO. The gun is effective out to 600 meters and because it has a straight back butt stock and buffer tube, it reduces the recoil and muzzle climb allowing the shooter to bracket the target or targets in this case.
Every one read the BlackWater book. It is a great book that tells company's history and in one of the chapters tell good details of this video because they interviewed the mercenary with the modified AR-15 rifle. You might be surprised to know that BlackWater was originally and still is a training facility. It will also clear up the confusion below my comment, but not about the gun.

@jakeeboii20 A 5.56 round is definitely dangerous at a mile. It is far beyond its effective range, but it can still be lethal. FYI a 62gr projectile leaving the muzzle at 3100 fps will still have a velocity of over 700 fps at 1500 yards. The projectile will retain about 71ft/lbs of energy, which is slightly less than a standard velocity .22lr round at the muzzle.

The longest sniper kill ever made was from a distance of 2,475m with a .338 Lapua Magnum. The thing is, that caliber's maximum effective range is only 1,400m. You figure it out.

The .338 Lapua has a theoretical range of about/around a mile, however the world record sniper kill was made with an AI rifle chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum at well over a mile and a half, approx. 2,475 meters.
If you Google it's effective range, different sites will have different distances.

@JimmyLipp I was going to get a Remington 700 Police chambered in .338 Lapua a few months ago, but the ammo is expensive. It's $100+ for a box of 20. The rifle itself wasn't too appealing to me either. I will definitely get a .338 Lapua, but it will be in a custom precision rifle with a Schmidt & Bender scope.

People should realize that these snipers weren't using standard issue equipment and more than likely had their rifles made to be longer range rifles than the standard M16 issued to troops. Also that a camera lens is not the human eye (not to mention a scope with a powerful magnification setting) and it can't pick up objects at a distance like the human eye can and that distances look farther than what they really are. The guy you see here talks about the events that lead to this, and the helicopter you saw at the beginning was dropping off things for them to hold on, including a sniper rifle. He is not Blackwater.

The .338 Lapua has a theoretical range of about/around a mile, however the world record sniper kill was made with an AI rifle chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum at well over a mile and a half, approx. 2,475 meters.
If you Google it's effective range, different sites will have different distances.

@JimmyLipp I was going to get a Remington 700 Police chambered in .338 Lapua a few months ago, but the ammo is expensive. It's $100+ for a box of 20. The rifle itself wasn't too appealing to me either. I will definitely get a .338 Lapua, but it will be in a custom precision rifle with a Schmidt & Bender scope.
I ended up buying a Remington 700 Sendero SF II in .300 Win. Mag. Instead. (About $30-$50 for a box of 20; a great & popular round) Beautiful rifle and fits perfect in my hand.

People should realize that these snipers weren't using standard issue equipment and more than likely had their rifles made to be longer range rifles than the standard M16 issued to troops. Also that a camera lens is not the human eye (not to mention a scope with a powerful magnification setting) and it can't pick up objects at a distance like the human eye can and that distances look farther than what they really are. I do not doubt for a second these people can see and hit what they're shooting

The guy you see here talks about the events that lead to this, and the helicopter you saw at the beginning was dropping off things for them to hold on, including a sniper rifle. He is not Blackwater.

I've trained with several men currently deployed, and see those men who I call my brothers coming and going constantly to/from the war zones. I have yet to realize why you keep trying to attack me personally rather than defending your points. We don't have forces in Israel so I'm not sure what that comment is about., Though Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Yemen, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, Oman and formerly Lebanon are host states.
