It saddens me that songs are not made like this today. The major seventh chords, lush strings, and that French horn--perfect arrangements...make this the fine song that it is.
I am put in mind of a nice warm evening...I am walking across a wooden bridge and a beautiful body of water, and the most glorious sunset--just me and my beautiful wife.
Wasn't "Hideaway" the beginning of the end of America's popularity? I have heard the band was going through rough times while recording the album, I haven't heard much of the album but what I have heard were very good.
Yes Doobie you maybe right about the rough times they were going through. but that can sometimes prove to be a positive thing whilst recording an album ie Beach Boys ,Abba ect .They have produced a number of albums since then 99% good ,as for there popularity they still have a very large band of loyal fans in this country (Australia) i have seen them every time they've come to Melbourne maybe 10-12 times in the past 25 years usually to a packed house . Ta 4 ya comment ,check out CD Here & Now.
Malabu2, thanks for posting these songs..."Hideaway" is one of my favorite AMERICA albums (it wasn't one of the band's favorites, though). The songs also bring back great memories of seeing the band in concert in Lake Tahoe in the Spring of 1976. These songs, along with others off "Hideaway", were in the set list and I was fortunate enough to meet Gerry in the casino before the show. Woot!!
rockbeat, did you read Dan Peek's book? In it, he mentioned that Rod thought up the title "Tonight's The Night" when visiting Dan's home and Dan was talking about "Today's The Day" :)
Love this record!
