The main two reasons why the YF-22 was chosen was because it had a much better industrial offset and it came at a cheaper price. The YF-23 had better avionics, better flight characteristics, better maneuverability, it was fast and had better climb-rate. The YF-22 was by far superior to enemy aircraft at that time anyways which made the choice of which one of the two super aircrafts fairly neutral

@USMCjunior117 F-22 actually has worked out most of its kinks except of course the price tag but it also has real stealth along with the F-35 and no the F-15C would most likely not outmanuever them due to their use of thrust vectoring.

@DESheffield2nd F-35 is an awesome plane but the Eurofighter can fly higher and faster and will still get a lock on the F-35 at close range. But seeing as no Typhoon and F-35 will ever fight each other my list is based on how useful it is to the airforce and the Typhoon has better payload and range as well as a reduced radar cross section (albeit not as small as the F35's) and is a better swing role jet. I think they share a lot of their avionics as well, both from BAE. both great assets though
@morzee94 When it all comes down to it though, even though they will never dogfight for the forseeable future, the F-35 stands the best chance of coming out victorious over the Typhoon due to the stealth radar cross-section which is nearly undetectable which means that the Typhoon will have to get well within missile range in order to achieve lock. Secondly the F-35 has a developed version of the Harrier's thrust vectoring system giving it astronomical agility and an amazing turn radius.
@asuccettid They won't dogfight full stop seeing as there used by the same airforce in most cases but even if they did it would have to be the Typhoon that engages because the F-35 simply wouldn't catch it. And the F35-B uses a completely different version of STOVL that doesn't actually use thrust vectoring but instead a lift fan and directing the engine outlet straight down when at very low speeds so it doesn't actually improve manoeuvrability whereas the typhoon has far greater natural agility
I can see some of the points made and also what was intended here, by taking into consideration other things such as cost...
That said, the Russian aircraft are much better than listed... the mig-29 was easily on par with the f-16 and the su-27 was better than that. Not to mention the later Sus and Migs.
Also, the f35 shouldn't be given kudos above the f22, as when it comes to payload, the f35 suffers greatly; this irrespective of cost. The cost of inadequate payload could mean lives.

If you talk about the YF-23 it would technically eat all of those planes its more agile & stealthier than a F-22.. The only problem why it didn't move to production is that it lost the bidding against the F-22. If you're looking at proven combat effectiveness these are the best. The Mirage III destroyed the combined air forces of Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon in a single day during the Yom Kippur war. The F-15 has destroyed over 100 aircraft with no loses. The F-4 allowed our pilots to dominate the air war in Vietnam, all of our aces for that war were flying the F-4. The F-35 is a strike bomber/interceptor, not an air superiority fighter like the F-22.

Yes, it is (it only has one engine). But it is scheduled to enter active service in all three branches by the end of this year. My base's sister squadron is transferring to them, while mine is getting Raptors. I can't wait.

@DESheffield2nd F-35 is an awesome plane but the Eurofighter can fly higher and faster and will still get a lock on the F-35 at close range. But seeing as no Typhoon and F-35 will ever fight each other my list is based on how useful it is to the airforce and the Typhoon has better payload and range as well as a reduced radar cross section (albeit not as small as the F35's) and is a better swing role jet. I think they share a lot of their avionics as well, both from BAE. both great assets though

@morzee94 When it all comes down to it though, even though they will never dogfight for the forseeable future, the F-35 stands the best chance of coming out victorious over the Typhoon due to the stealth radar cross-section which is nearly undetectable which means that the Typhoon will have to get well within missile range in order to achieve lock. Secondly the F-35 has a developed version of the Harrier's thrust vectoring system giving it astronomical agility and an amazing turn radius.

@asuccettid They won't dogfight full stop seeing as there used by the same airforce in most cases but even if they did it would have to be the Typhoon that engages because the F-35 simply wouldn't catch it. And the F35-B uses a completely different version of STOVL that doesn't actually use thrust vectoring but instead a lift fan and directing the engine outlet straight down when at very low speeds so it doesn't actually improve manoeuvrability whereas the typhoon has far greater natural agility

I can see some of the points made and also what was intended here, by taking into consideration other things such as cost...
That said, the Russian aircraft are much better than listed... the mig-29 was easily on par with the f-16 and the su-27 was better than that. Not to mention the later Sus and Migs.
Also, the f35 shouldn't be given kudos above the f22, as when it comes to payload, the f35 suffers greatly; this irrespective of cost. The cost of inadequate payload could mean lives.

If you talk about the YF-23 it would technically eat all of those planes its more agile & stealthier than a F-22.. The only problem why it didn't move to production is that it lost the bidding against the F-22. Thinking that is YF-23 is more expensive than the F-22 & the F-22 is already a very expensive jet in the USAF..
F-35 should not be No.1 its a multi-role fighter its a peice of cake for a Euro Fighter & F-22

It was part of the Advance Tactical Fighter (ATF) competition.
The F-23 Should have gone into full production, not the f-22. The F-23 did ALL of the Air Force requirements in the competition, BUT had to STOP to let the f-22 to catch up for 6 months. The F-23 won the fly-off in every single way but not on politics.
One f-22 with (R&D) cost as much as 1 airbus 380 (the double decker one) with still 200mil left, or you can 50 F-15 for just 1

If you're looking at proven combat effectiveness these are the best. The Mirage III destroyed the combined air forces of Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon in a single day during the Yom Kippur war. The F-15 has destroyed over 100 aircraft with no loses. The F-4 allowed our pilots to dominate the air war in Vietnam, all of our aces for that war were flying the F-4. The F-35 is a strike bomber/interceptor, not an air superiority fighter like the F-22.

Hmm I believe the F-22 can carry 4 Joint Strike Missiles, 1 radar guided, and a pack of cluster bombs, and ye Britain better get the F-35 on their carriers because if they dont their new carriers will lack a higher evolution of technologie for it. Now that doesnt mean getting rid of the FA-18 Hornets and AV-8B Harriers, cause they are great. They just need a next gen. fighter aircraft for their sea power. That make it clearer? Oh and the Eurofighter's payload carrys 4 more missiles than the F-22
