Basic animation Java game "Snake" (like Centipede for Windows)

I've figured out how to edit the source files, is there anyway to make the snake go around faster?

Rather than just reaptingly pressing the arrows?

Such as every one second it travels one square, so i want it every 0.5 seconds it travels a square.

What program do I use if I want to edit the source code?

@BigYellowNinja I wrote this in Eclipse IDE for Java Developers, Version: Helios Service Release 1

Do you know how to use Eclipse? In order to load the project you create a new Java project and then copy the contents of the zipped folder into that project. At least that's the way I do it... Let me know if you're able to do it right.
