  • That is surely one of the best performance of SSB. Nice vocals, like that of Mariah Carey's and Charice.

  • Now that's how to sing the national anthem. I've always thought she had a wonderful voice.

  • "So the Dodgers brought in Debbie Gibson, if only they had Kirk Gibson."

    She is 41 today.

  • PERFECTION!

  • AWESOME JOB

  • I I just just wanna wanna say say Kidding. OK OK it's an echo joke. Man learn your baseball history.

  • she sounds great. Now we have retard "pop artists" who have to have their voice shoot up and down with each syllable of the national anthem and end up making it sound terrible. Less is more sometimes.

  • She did an awesome job and didn't get lost in the feed back/echo!!!!!

  • Wow Bob Costas comment was a little Ironic. Good national anthem by Debbie G, man as an A's fan. I didn't mind that they lost to Kirk Gibson's Home Run (played the game right) I did mind is when you see the Home Run go over the wall you can see Brake Lights appearing in the parking lot. I understand L.A. fans leave early and all but it is THE WORLD SERIES. You don't leave the WORLD SERIES till the last out.

  • and i want to bang that bitch. i want her pussy lips. its proof with my mouth, it has gotten so dry. oh....

  • Did anyone catch Steve Perry in the audience at the 1:14- 1:19 min mark, grant it you cant see his entire face but I can pick Steve out anywhere and that's deff him.

  • @JRNYrocks

You might be absolutely correct on that one, good eye mate!

  • looks like a mix between Britney and Blossom

  • I totally forgot she sang at that World Series

  • Good For Deborah "Debbie" Gibson!!!

    I love that voice!!!

  • This is a good rendition. No shouting. lol

  • He says "If only they had Kirk Gibson". Little did he know The Greatest Home Run Ever was going to be sending the Dodger faithful home that evening with the rest of the World Series in their back pocket. This is the first time a team actually won a World Series in one game. No team could recover after that.

  • @thebestaround5000 the line of the decade, right there!!!

  • She's so talented.

  • She did it right! Awesome!

I hate how most pop stars that sing the national anthem want to go on and on doing their stupid 15 minute reprises with the lyrics. And hold the notes for an hour and a half.

It's the star spangled banner people. Save it for American Idol.

    Play ball!

  • @ValorUnlimited I kinda disagree....That's a 'right of passage' for a lot of singers who become popular...I don't think there's anything wrong with adding your own style to it...Even Debbie did that in this vid...Not to mention....It's not like the players, fans, and referees are going ANYWHERE.....

  • Lasorda looks like Palpatine.

  • Jose Censaco was standing there thinking, "damn that needle mark mcguire stuck in my ass before the game still hurts."

  • LOL

  • funny, but true. LOL. I'm surprised both of those guys aren't dead by now because of complications to so many years of steroid abuse.

  • Yes, it's a big surprise. Jose Canseco's documentary "Last Shot" showed how much he is suffering now (emotionally, physically, and financially).

  • I thought it was Barry Bonds who shot him up.

  • naw, he never played on the same team as barry bonds.

  • after she sang her song... she looked like she wanted to faint. hahah but overall she did pretty good.

  • That feedback isn't doing her any favors, she would have sounded much better without all the echo. Not her fault!

  • Hey as an A'S fan this game broke my heart, however i was glad it was Kirk Gibson (the eventual MVP that year) who hit it, but what kills me still to this day was the brake lights you see in the parking lot when gibsons homerun goes into the bleachers. What fucking idiot leaves a world series game when you are down by a run.

  • Debbie Gibson opened the evening and Kirt Gibson closed the evening.

  • Hey look! There are people in the stands! This truely is a flash from the past.

  • what a memories, what a precious moment it is increidle that this happen 20 years back in time, like Dr Soran from star trek generations said....time is the flame in wich all of us are burn...

  • WAS THAT KIRKS DAUGHTER

  • Nope.

  • @DarkCloak Debbie Gibson's parents are Joseph and Diane. Debbie has three sisters, but no brothers.

  • @mrceleb2006

    Thank You for the clarification.

  • @DarkCloak You're welcome.

  • @RAMSASS Debbie Gibson was a teen pop singer in that era.

  • @RAMSASS It was Bob Gibson's daughter

  • i remember my childhood. we always sing a song of our U.S national anthem.

  • damn thas prestigious for her, but shyt she shoulda went all out

  • Wow, I didn't know Debbie Gibson sang in Game 1. I guess it's fitting that a Gibson ended the game when another started it.

  • I wish Deborah Gibson sang the U.S. national anthem before a Chicago Blackhawks NHL hockey game at the United Center, but does she really need organist Frank Pellico to do the music...or would she rather sing without the organist?

  • In an attempt to prevent Urban Legends... cortisone is still classified as a Corticosteroid, and not an Anabolic Steroid like the "Bash Brothers" were likely using. Do a Wiki Search, corticosteroids are only used to reduce inflammation.

Anyway, how about we change the subject back to Debbie Gibson, instead of Kirk Gibson. How many here prefer "Debbie" over Deborah? I think her publicists should be fired.

  • I don't see the big deal. She's always preferred to be addressed as Deborah.

  • It was talked about openly back then if a player like Gibson took a shot of steroids in order to be able to play in a game which he did just minutes before emerging from the dugout. Vin Scully even talked about it on the television broadcast. It was considered a brave thing to do by an athlete rather than cheating. I would hope that by now the average fan realizes that cortisone is a steroid.

  • True, it is a steroid... but not an "anabolic" steroid. This was medication just to reduce the inflammation in the knees, not for use in bulking up.

For example, an asthmatic may use Azmacort, Beclomethasone, or Vanceril. All three are steroids, but none are anabolic steroids.

  • Olympic athletes can't take cortisone shots because their is a strength benefit. Gibson hit that home run with one arm if you watch it. MLB should come clean that his famous HR was not legitimate.

  • Gibson must be very lucky name for the Dodgers then.

  • best.version.EVAR!

  • On March 25, 2008, A & E Home Entertainment will be releasing a 7 DVD set of the 1988 World Series in its entirety. It will include all five World Series games, and games # 4 and 7 of the playoffs against the Mets. These are NOT highlight videos, they are every pitch of every game as it was seen on television. There are also going to be tons of bonus material about the Dodgers 1988 season, including Orel Hershiser breaking Drysdale's scoreless inning streak, and much more.

    Rob

  • do u have any full videos of this series

  • I had access to them - they belonged to a friend of mine but unfortunately, he discarded the videos.

  • thanks anyways

  • Very nice version. Would have been more fitting if the Mets were in it instead of LA since Deb was from NY.

  • Jerry 74, please... The Mets weren't in the World Series because the Los Angeles Dodgers smacked them in the mouth... Don't forget, the Mets will always play second fiddle to the Los Angeles Dodgers... Let me present the facts below...

    Mets: 4 World Series appearances: 69, 73, 86, 00... Won it in 69, 86... Lost it in 73, 00...

    Los Angeles Dodgers: 9 World Series appearances: 59, 63, 65, 66, 74, 77, 78, 81, 88... Won it in 59, 63, 65, 81, 88... Lost it in 66, 74, 77, 78...

  • You skipped: 1955 1st W/S win (7 games). Also you skipped 1956 Lost. The Dodgers have SIX (6) W/Series wins.

  • Thanks Al, but I know my Dodgers history... The little facts I posted was Los Angeles Dodgers history, not Brooklyn Dodgers history, but thanks anyway...

  • Okay, I thought it odd that you omitted what I listed. I see your point. Too bad the Dodgers are not even going to be at Vero Bch, FL. anymore; with 2008 being the end. Saw them there in 2006. Saw Sandy Koufax make his Major League pitching debut with Brooklyn at Ebbet's Field in 1955, vs. the Cincinnati Red Legs that day. Look it up! Take care...

  • Al it sounds like you're a serious Dodger fan... My self as well... It breaks my %$##^& heart that they've been in the dog house for the last 20 years... With this young nucleus of talent we have, hopefully it can turn us into one of the more respected franchises in baseball again... Until then, we can reminisce about the good old days...

  • Debbie Gibson began the game, Kirk Gibson ended it.

  • well put

  • I really liked this......I have been a fan since the beginning...but never seen this...this is something of a treat for me to view!

  • I like watching classic baseball games; but I deliberately avoid watching the singing of the national anthem in this particular game.

  • Deb sounded great as a kid, but I bet she could REALLY belt it now as an adult. She gets better and better as the years go by!!!!

  • This is cool. I didn't get to see it when it was on TV then.

  • Correct...I used to live in Philadelphia/Prospect Park and now reside primarily in Wildwood, NJ.

  • I had seen Deb play live on her "Out of the Blue" tour the previous summer, so the fact that she got to sing at the World Series was a tremendous accomplishment.

  • Little did Bob Costas or any of us watching know what Kirk Gibson would do 3 hours from then!!

  • What did Kirk Gibson do? LOL! (I am more interested in Deb - but now I am curious...)

  • Thanks! I appreciate the knowledge. That would be impressive.

How can you hate someone you do not even know? Deborah is a wonderful woman who I have known for almost 2 decades!

  • "How can you hate someone you do not even know? Deborah is a wonderful woman who I have known for almost 2 decades!"

This game is one of baseball's classics. The Kirk Gibson homerun capped a lengthy Dodger comeback. Oakland jumped into an early lead on a grand-slam homerun by Jose Canseco.

I suppose it was Gibson's giddy, semi-bubblegummy image that I didn't like. I'm a Beatles, Cream, the Who, and Deep Purple guy. The funny this is, I probably would get along with Debbie.

  • :) Thanks for the reply and clarification! I completely understand how you feel about Deborah's (she always preferred Deborah...being called Debbie Gibson was the agreeable solution between Deborah and Atlantic Records) image and having an opinion about liking or not liking it.

I will have to find a tape of this game and watch it at some point (probably when I am 90 since I do not even have time to watch movies/tv).

  • "I will have to find a tape of this game and watch it at some point (probably when I am 90 since I do not even have time to watch movies/tv)."

You can watch this game, inning by inning, at the mlb-dot-com website. Look under 'Baseball's best' in their video archives. Many a memorable contest can be found here.

I did see Debbie Gibson's anthem singing within these files a long time ago; but I don't know if it's still there.

  • Will have to check this out...THANK YOU!

  • Wow I have Deb talk for many years about that game but never seen it for myself until now.

  • Thanks ,Always love seeing earlier clips of Deb

  • Sounds awesome, so sweet! Thanks!

  • No problem, my pleasure :-)
