@s2ths2 I used to hate it too! Was wondering if I could ever come to terms with it in my collection. But I kept listening and one day I realised something. To get anything out of it, you have to completely, deliberately forget the rest of the catalogue- Garbage, Version 2.0, BLM- everything. Listening to BG is a complete loss of control every time- you have to be willing to go to a totally different place with your emotions. It's all about vulnerability. I love this album beyond words.
@sirencc Maybe because no one really knows what is sung after that part. I, for exemple, listen "I'm sorry" and "Please". Some says those sounds are moans. No on really knows, that's why I didn't put lyrics for that part.
Why is it that the lyrics posted never have anything past the "But somehow I cannot let you in" part? I swear I hear real words spoken. To me, it sounds like she says," Someone else, someone else, someone else, please leave there's someone else. There's someone else, there's someone else. Please go, please go, please go, please go. Please, please leave." I may have missed a few... but that's what I hear.

The way I read it, at least, seemed very simple to me since the way I understood this (and most songs!) is to my own life. To me, this song is about someone realizing the pointlessness of life...that we're all going to die in the end anyway (our fate has long been cast). And they try to love others to trick themselves, but no matter how hard they try..."I cannot let you in."
That's what I have been trying to figure out but she is definitely saying something...sounds like "the summer wind" and maybe "free to stay and free to go" at the very end but it's hard to tel even with good earphones.
yah, their early work is definitely depressing... but at the same time it has this very empowering and controlling feeling to it.. their music has always been unique..but hey just look at their backgrounds..hah
i used this song with me and my boyfriend broke up the title led me to it but the silent words speak volumes in the aftermath which is 3 years ago now...
