Wow! Turned out even better than the reference itself! I think someone has said this before in the comments, but the fact that this wasn't just a photoshopped 'speed-painting' yet turned out so realistically speaks volumes about how good an artist you are!
Wow, thanks =). I found the problem... I only had 180 pixels/inch.. I now use 2048x1536 as dimensions, with 300 pixels/inch. I'm not a professional nor trained artist, so as for now, that works great for me ^^.
I usually use Oil for the hair, all the rest I do with airbrush. =)
What resolution are you using? Like what's the size of your canvas? I always have the problem that it gets too pixely (if that word exists ^^) if I want to go into details =/. And if I take a huge canvas... it just gets very sloooww because the file size is like 100 mb.
True. I used a mouse for everything before but i just got an wacom intuos and i can do everything alot faster more effeciently, because the mouse was so frustrating that i would rush my work just to stop using it.
lol it's not that great. I mean, its not a speed painting, u just imitated a picture, and there's almost no texture in it. ---> I think you're do something better uhuh lol
Anyway it' awsome! I'm learing to use this program and it' very hard, nice work!
id say 75% of the speed paintings on youtube are either direct "imitation" from a source picture or almost imitation ( arms or legs may be shifted but otherwise same as source. ) The fact it looks so good without texture (a once over with a spatter brush wouldnt have hurt) is a testimony to the excellent job done.
Thanks for your critique. I really appreciate people giving honest opinions about this drawing. It was not meant to be a work of art by any means and truly doesnt have much feeling or style. Although I do have a great respect for photo-realist painters and my work reflects the impact of artists like chuck close and others. This painting is merely a sketch that I did while learning the software. I hope to learn to be much more impressionistic in my approach once i start doing some real pieces.
@keter54 i've been using a "WACOM BAMBOO PEN AND TOUCH SE" 5* product very portable and only £100 ish. comes with a great bundle of software too. check them out!
I consider myself an artist, but I've never had any formal training. I look at this, and I'm just dumbstruck. There's something about it that I just don't get. Whenever I try this method, my drawings just come out waxy and blurry, and my faces look more like E.T. as they go. Anyone know any in depth tutorials?
corel painter is made specifically for painting in this aspect. However, from what i have seen, photoshop has a much better blending engine on its brushes. I have tried to switch over to photoshop and paint on there but it is just not as user friendly as far as mixing colors and changing brushes etc... Thanks for the compliment. :)
I find a mix of both painter and photoshop is better then just one or the other, Both have their pro's and con's :) But i much prefer painters...painting methods. Just personal opinion though lol, Amazing work too :) Left iris (From the video, Acutally your right eye) was a little darker in the picture :)
Very nice video, Mistatumnus. You did the detail so intricately, especially for a speedpaint. You did the eyes fantastically, and all the facial lines. Great work!
You don't know art, this is no different than impressionist painting. Go to the Louvre it's full of paintings in this style just done with paint instead of computers.
Not really, there's a difference between trying to find the perfect line, and cluttering like this guy does. It doesn't really matter what technique you use, it's the result that counts. All I am saying is that he waste a lot of time on ghost painting.
yes but his "cluttering" is the try to find the perfect line and there is no difference. yes, you are right, as a example a machine don't waste a lot of time with "ghost painting". what we learn? if you don't want to loose to much time, let be paint machines!
wow amazing :3

There are people who use a mouse to paint pictures, but it takes patience and skill. I'd like a Wacom though, I have a laptop.

You do a lot of superfluous strokes (for example when drawing the outlines of the left iris), which eats a lot of time. But the result is great :)
jaenadar 4 years ago
you need them to approach to the perfect lines as close as possible. if you don't do that, you are a machine.
Funmichael 4 years ago
Not really, there's a difference between trying to find the perfect line, and cluttering like this guy does. It doesn't really matter what technique you use, it's the result that counts. All I am saying is that he waste a lot of time on ghost painting.
