@alfarelife Apparently they disbanded in 1997 then got back together in 2007 But according to a discography, haven't released anything since 2003. Che Fu was their lead singer... Only he went by Che Ness back then
fyi the album 'traction' was gold-certified in indonesia, which is a rare thing for a then-obscure band. thanks supergroove for exposing me to funk and leaving me hanging, you beasts. f*ck pre-internet distribution channel.
This is nothing but COOL! This band does New Zealand proud ! :D :D :D I wish more newer bands would take some inspiration from these guys. We'd get some goood music!
thanks to those who say good things about this song and kiwi music :D Yes there are some good songs / artists out there like Dane Rumble, Stan Walker ,who in fact is both Australian and Kiwi but thats for Stan Walker, Scribe, JT Williams (but thats for the artists) ... Loyal, Dreaming and April Sun in Cuba (and thats for the songs). This song is a good one too :D
you should know as australians we claim everyone as our own once they become popular. its less work than actually producing our own talent.....unless they have been on neighbours or home and away first hahahahaha
@MoreFunThanWar thats true dude i 100% agree with you they just seemed to go downhill when Che left leaving Carl to take the lead..... so their music went in a totally different direction........ example after the album "traction" it got wierd the sound just wasnt the same....... but still i do agree with you. just putting my 5c in
Luv it! Brings back memories of seeing them in a pub in Nelson way back when...and to think they put Che out...guess they laughed on the other side of their face when he hit the big time! LOL
I met some of these guys when they were signing stuff at a record shop in Wellington, when they were unknowns, and they were very cool and friendly. They just look like they have so much fun when they play together, and they were equally acting the goat at the record shop in Manners Mall.
Brisbane Livid Festival..1995..Davies Park....River Stage...Sun going down over the river...Supergroove layering the crowd with the most lucious of grooves...A moment in my life....
Does anyone know what happened to Supergroove? I saw these guys live in Whangerei in about 1997 or 98 and they Fucking rocked, perhaps one of the best dance live bands Ive ever seen, I live in the States now but I would travel anywhere here in the US to see these guys - Where are they now?
well they did an nz tour last year, i saw them for free at the hamilton v8s concert because some rellys had tickets but only wanted to see the racing. kora played aswell and it was awsome!
it took me back to the 90's when i used to go to 'A saco' disco in Barcelona... We all there were waiting for this song to start jumping as crazies...
The way they sing: 'can't get enough, can't get enough of you' sounds for an Spanish (after many beers and other things) like 'chaqueta, chatetazo', that translated is something like: 'jacket, hit with jacket', so one day we took our jackets and start hitting people in the disco with them while this song was playing.
from what I've seen, they have tonnes of aussie fans, and I for one can't wait to see them live (was too young last time they were here -and- I had the money to go)
Are you sure? I remember the voice over guy used to be the 'continuity announcer' on TVNZ, I though tis name was Nick or Mike. Definitely not Selwyn Toogood as other posts believe. His voice is great. Do you know if Supergroove were a manufactured band, I don't want to sound conspiracy theory but they did lad the Munchos ad & the music & lyrics sem incredible for guys so young. Even if they were whoever were the talents behind this group produced wonderful music & memories
sounds like something the red hot chilly peppers would of sung back in the nineties, great song

Wow,
it took me back to the 90's when i used to go to 'A saco' disco in Barcelona...
Crazy days...
