There is difference between singer and artist - difference between singing and rendering. She is a good singer - can become a good artist. Style is so typical of Ajoy Chokroborthy. Good Patiyala style.
@tybalbulba Ok got it. Background is - Two females are talking to each other, when one asks:
Kahe = Why Maan = love, respect & preparation, sakhi ri ab = My friend now
The other one replies because: bahut dinan me = After an extended absence piya ghar aaye = your lover has come home.Vako manao, rijhao, dheer dharo = you should with patience, use every trick to make him feel happy & fulfilled
@r8rdarklord She then advises: Gandh maal se anga sajao - you should preen yourself with perfumes and flower
vividh dhanga se gaao bajao - entertain him in many ways through song and music
pritam ki ab preet haro - do all you can to win your love.
On second thoughts, the translation lacks the poetic beauty of the couplets. The meaning is straight forward but when rendered with the poetry has amazing effect. Hope this helps.
@tybalbulba You are welcome. R8rdarklord is how the fans call the owner of an american football team that I follow. I thought it is a cool internet name, therefore I use it. There is very little of the darklord in me.
Madhuvanti is such an appropriate name to this Rag. The feeling of sweetness is so unique. I have a feeling that the ragas like Madhuvanti might have been discovered after the mainstream rag such as yaman. It is not an 'obvious' rag. For that matter, Bhatiyar might have come after Marwa. One has to marvel at the genius of the founder and named it Madhuvanti. This rendition is of the same caliber as the gem 'Rashme Ulfat' composed by the great Madan Mohan
You may have a point there - however ragas like Madhuvanti are pretty much mainstream these days, i would say. Also keep in mind that Madhuvanti is only slightly modified from Multani...i don't know of course if you consider Multani as "mainstream" - probably not.
I have heard that Madhuvanti was composed by Ustad Vilayat khan (yes, it is a slight modification of Multani, latter considered more melodious and with deeper gravitas). As in science, it was independently composed by Waman Padhye (Guru of famous marathi singer Sudhir Phadke) under the name 'Ambika'
@ribandarcho Did you know that this is also called Ambika, which, to me, sounds sweeter? Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia has a recording where he plays Mahdu-Malhar-- a very sweet raaga with the sweetness of Madhuvanti and the added poignancy of Malhar.
@ribandarcho mdhuvanti is one of the ragas in carnatic classical - dharmavati is the janaka raga of madhuvanti; in hindustani classical this raga is exactly like multani with rekhab & dhaivat shuddha; this is under Todi thaat
Wha wha!...now this is what im talking about...my kinda classical vocalist...like her dad she does beautiful vocal percussion....my favourite female classical vocalist....peace
I can't leave my computer, I am absolutely addicted to her beautiful voice. What a talent! Is she related to Ajoy Chakrabarty? Please confirm my reply and I truly appreciate your kind response.
