Wow! Soundgarden is my favorite band of all time and I normally don't enjoy covers of their music this much. I never thought I would have a reason to say this, but let's hear more of your covers.
@bgpjr1989 The whole audio is me. No trickery or editing done here. This was actually done on cassette in one take and then transferred to CD. I do have another actual video that I did later with some former bandmates. It is on my channel if you want to check it out.
For those of you who are questioning whether or not this is really him singing. It is. He's my uncle. We karaoeked together a few times, and he would always blow everyone away, especially with Chris Cornell songs. I remember him singing "Like a Stone," and I absolutely could not tell the difference between him and Cornell at all.
Supersweet vocals, I'm glad you recorded this and you have my sincerest respect. Regarding your self described "guitar playing sucks" if you had a better pickup in you acoustic it would make a WORLD of difference! I'd strongly recommend aftermarket pickups by K&K and Sunrise for acoustics. I'm an experienced luthier of 13 years and under the saddle pickups though convenient for manufacturers, suck for performing and recording.
@bridgeplatepuller Thanks! On this recording I was actually using a Tascam cassette recorder and crappy little $20 condernsor mic from Radio Shack. The delay was from an Boss digital delay pedal through the effects loop. I transferred the recording to CD later.
Outstanding. Very impressive. Congratulations. It's just perfect. The lows, the hights and the vibrato. And your voice timbre sounds very similar to Chris.
Damn, this is totally incredible. You could go out and sing with Soundgarden. Hope ur singing in a band; if not, there is no reason why. Hell, create ur own band; with a voice like that, u can get a great instrumental backing.
HO... LEEE.... CRAP! Put this on iTunes and I'll buy it man. WOWOWOWOW! Seeing them at Red Rocks on July 17!!! Hope they play this song. Awe-some man!
I was considering doing a full studio acoustic version of this, but now I don't know if I should. I wouldn't be able to get anywhere near this level of awesome vocally. It might be a bit silly of me, but I might ask for your help to get it right.
Hey dude great vocals ,simply amazing ,i'm speechless
check out FOLLOWINGTHEOMENS'S version of the song you sound more like Chris Cornell he sounds more like i dont even know ,someone with a really high and powerful voice singing a Cornell song ,same song different styles, different pitches, different in general ,but both sound awesome ,pretty sweet you guys are by far in the top ten of most talented people in youtube hope someone finally discover you guys
My God, this is impressive! For the benefit of everyone here who wants to sing like this, could you explain your technique? It's spot on, and you don't sound strained at all.
@PerryMason321 Practice, practice, practice. Basically finding your range through vocal exercises. Finding your highest note and controlling and especially limiting the amount of air you use. Pushing causes strain. The example is a balloon. If you blow it up and let it deflate all the air comes out at a low, fart-like frequency. But narrow the opening and less air comes out at a higher pitched squeak. Something like that.
I signed up to Youtube just to give you my compliments man. This is far and away the best cover of Cornell I have ever seen. You nail pretty much every part of this. Absolutely awesome. Keep up the good work!
dude you rock. most of the people commenting on this head voice, chest voice nonsense don't know what they are saying. Chris used head, chest, mixed and falsetto.
A'right mate, it's Tommy here under another account - I should really retract any comment I made about you not using the full chest voice 'cause you're SERIOUSLY fucking belting it out on this one! I forgot you'd done this cover too! I'm going to start a rumour that you're actually hiding behind the amps singing onstage when Soundgarden play live and Cornell's just miming......Ha! A'ra best!
After telling you I just get very very impressed with this, because I was waiting for something like..a guy with..normal guitar skills and a terribly bad voice (like it's almost all the time) and I just heard this.. ok, now, I'm asking you for some advice, I'm a 14 year girl who never took lessons on singing, and been singing for almost 2 years, my voice has a deep sound and I need to know how to work on the rock technique, could you help me? once again GREAT
Thank you for the praise. It took me a lot of time and practice to find my range and work on my tone and control. I also had the benefit of a friend who took pro voice lessons and helped get me going in the right direction. So if you can do it, get some lessons and gradually develop your technique that best makes use of your natural gifts.
Took A LOT of practice, finding my range, learning to belt properly without pushing, and just being really relaxed and warmed up to sing well enough for that particular recording.
Thanks. I've been singing for about 15 years now. But only more recently developed the rock falsetto. I have a friend who took pro voice lessons and is an excellent rock singer. He helped me out with my technique. I have to say I love your user name. Ultimate Ginger Balls?

i know y'all hate me for this but i can hit higher and with more power in beyond the wheel but i just dont got the mic to record it properly. point is, i will.
ok i've heard tons of people trying to cover chris cornell's voice on youtube and this is the only decent one...especially with hard fucking vocals like this to sing to. 95%! A+! Good job mister!
But if you have such potential to sing you should record a disk without imitating Cornell's voice.
Besides you are an old man, you do not have future in music too late I seat him but you are a waste and he remembers the life she is good if to if your you want it believing .
Hey man, can't believe I hadn't heard this 'til now, after that "Say Hello 2 Heaven" cover you did. Awesome stuff, you've got one hell of a voice. I'd love to see you give another Cornell cover a go, this stuff is great. Cheers, eh.
I checked out your myspace and I have to say even though I typically don't listen to that type of your music I thought it was great man :) You have one hell of a voice, please keep on writing and singing ;) Oh, and do you have any tips on finding/improving the head voice?
Thank you. It takes a lot of practice, listening to your recorded voice, and experimenting with your range. For head voice, use less air and don't push. Practice with a tuned instrument to find proper pitch. Rock screams use the same physical principal of making a balloon squeak--narrow opening and less air coming out. How sound resonates varies from person to person. When you can reach those notes then you can play around with holding them and mixing them between chest and head.
Wow....well done. ..wow

People! The hard part isn't achieving it. The hard part is controlling it and keeping constant once you've hit notes that high.
You just have to push yer voice. Do it. It'll work.
I can do vox on songs like Hands All Over, JCP, Rooms A 1000 Yrs Wide, and more. It's so great.
Practice and you will be rewarded.

Hey Cap'n!
Awesome vocal work, my man!
Form a band, write some stuff and find yourself. Music today NEEDS real singers who have range!

ok i've heard tons of people trying to cover chris cornell's voice on youtube and this is the only decent one...especially with hard fucking vocals like this to sing to. 95%! A+! Good job mister!

dude you definitely write your own material or try for a band i don't know.... you have an amazing voice.whts ur band msn space page?

Thanks!
KevinPerilouz 4 years ago

Thanks for the tips, I will do that :)
That balloon example is probably the best example I've heard :D

I have a question. How do you put vibrato on those high notes?
That's what I'm having trouble with.
