Laird took the 'foilchair' , cut off the chair and melded the fin to a surfboard. Watch "Step Into Liquid" and they give a good detailed background on this. It is amazing to see how they used this foilboard on Cortes Bank when they caught those +60 footers in '01 -'02.
the way it works is there is a lil like fin under the water that somehow allows the person to literally float above the waterr!????
Dude, go back to school. The hydrofoil was invented over a hundred years ago by Alexander Graham Bell...... when he was bored from inventing your telephone.
Laird put it on a surfboard & took it to the big waves. But guys have been playin with these for years on & behind boats of all kinds. Use the web & look it up. There are millions of pics & videos of them.

Laird, I love the Foil boards. I've got a question though. Don't the foil and the boots restrict your mobility? From what I've seen of you using them it seems like you can't cut in nearly the fashion that you would on a regular board.
Looks fun, and smooth
at least, until you hit a sandbar =P

They're like sailors stuck on a cruise ship. It's not as fun when you can't feel every swell of the ocean.

Looks like something out of this world. I am sure it's such a thrill. Awesome, but this is different than regular surfing.
