KISS is both hard rock and metal, I'd say. The Creatures of the Night album definitely has metallic qualities. And the difference between hard rock and metal isn't that big.
I agree. Take a song like She from Dressed To Kill. That beat is definitely Metal even if it wasn't defined as such at the time. Hell, Iron Man wasn't called Metal at the time.
