  • Does this girl EVER mess up? She got totally robbed out of the AA in Seoul. I mean, how can someone get 3 of the 4 EF medals and not get gold for AA? And I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly, the one event she didn't get gold in she still medaled

  • Best gymnast of the 1980's.

  • outstanding, such a pitty she had those damm wobbles at the AA finals

  • omg .. that hair! .. it is cute actually .. it was the 80's .. disco and all ... breathtaking performance!

  • Daniela should be a lesson for all gymnasts who came after on how to keep a slightly developing body under total control. She had a beautiful gymnastics body.

  • I keep coming back here every once in a while. One of the greatest Olympic beam routines in history imo. And in the days when scores carried over into the AA.

  • is this balence beam longer than now??

  • @bertera1614 No-the beam still has the same proportions. More spring-loaded perhaps.

  • shes my favorite gymnast of all time! but seriously, the hair... lol. i think daniela herself realized it looked quite bad, since she went back to a ponytail in the following year

  • @gold192 I agree, but the '80s in general was a bad time for hair.

  • She's got beautiful form. Her body is in perfect shape. She doesn't look too skinny, just muscular and toned. Her routine is wonderful, and she is amazing in general. Truly, she is one of gymnastics greatest.

  • listen, this is an elite gymnastics site, not a cuss like a sailor site! how about you stop with the sewer mouth! if you are going to post stuff like that, just get off the site altogether! i dont think anybody wants to see that crap! i am not saying that i dont slip and say these things somtimes, but i dont slip while i am typing, that is why they have a backspace button on your keyboard!! USE IT!!

  • Artistic gymnastics at its best. Nothing close to it today. Stupid people who re-do the Code - they think difficulty can make up for lack of artistry. They have ruined gymnastics as far as I'm concerned.

  • goddamn japanese, it's daniela SILVAS, not SHIRIBASU! anyway wonderful routine, technically unexceptionable :)

  • They said Silivas multiple times ... what video are YOU watching? And how easy is it for you to pronounce names from other languages? I think they did a fine job - they pronounced it correctly but with their accent.

  • You goddamn moron. Look for other videos if you don't appreciate the Japanese-feed.

  • I still absoloutelty love her gymnastics tho

  • hey man what teenager in 1988 didnt have a bad haircut? lol

  • Gorgeous gymnastics, unfortunate haircut. :)

  • I know what was up with the hair?? Hey forgive her she was in her teens I had a bad haircut too when I was her age :) What a gymnast!

  • The '80s were an unfortunate time for hair :) Her haircut is nothing, just imagine her with a mullet!

  • @NYCBlonde lol I know right? I actually saw a woman with a fem-mullet at walmart the other day. And her poor baby son had a mullet, too. It's bad enough that you've got to butcher your own hair, but your baby's too??

  • lovely routine but that last back handspring was so far from the end of the beam but she managed to pull off the dismount beautifully

  • she got it!!! wow!! I think 10 represent her performance!!

  • What a unique routine. Does anyone know who her coach/choreographer is?

  • Adrian Goreac was the head coach of the Romanians of this time, I don't know who the choreographer was.

  • I am sure it was Maria Cosma. The coaches at Deva who had the amazing Romanian team of 1987-1988 were Octavian Belu, Adrian Stoica(stan?) Maria Cosma and overall Adrian Goreac. An amazing team of coaches for an amazing team of gymnasts.

  • nadia comaneci tenia mas estilo.

    arriba nadia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A perfect blend of artistry and atheticism. Devine.

  • Thank you for posting this! Silivas is one of my all time favorite gymnasts. Magnificent performance. One of the greatest on balance beam and under Olympic pressure-in the days when scores carried over. Truly awesome routine.

  • This is what you call OVERWHELMING!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful! In my opinion she the thirdor second - after Nadia and maybe Olga !

  • wow, this beam routine is one of the best i´ve ever seen!! the best layouts i´ve ever seen!! Nadia and Silivas are two of my favorite gymnasts. i wish i was born earlier, i was born during the 1988 olympics in the second week of the games.

  • I know: her layout salto's are beautiful. When you see them in slo-mo you can see how she "makes" the landings, by kicking out with her landing leg; there is no way she is NOT going to land perfectly. Her technique was just so perfect: I would say that she is technically one of the best gymnasts of all time.

  • Those are some of the most BEAUTIFUL lines I've ever seen in my life. This woman is truly a legend! Amazing!

  • she is just adorable!! and this routine was just about perfect. haha, perfect in this cop, i would just say hiting perfect 180 on one or 2 leaps would make this absolutely perfect. but i just love her aggression on her 2 series and the dismount. fun to watch

  • I love her energy. I thought Oksana Omelianchik was the only one who actually loved doing this sport. This is awesome.

  • How could you possibly give her less than 10 for this? This deserved a 20. This should be shown to all young gymnasts as THE textbook beam routine. Just look how square her shoulders are on the two layouts: millimetre-correct placement is required to get it that perfect. If the shoulder drifts slightly the layout is out of the beam. She was such a great technician-all of her elements were performed to the fullest. Look at the leg extension on the layouts-perfect splits.

  • i mean...look how much she struggles to nail that layout on beam perfectly

  • Where is she struggling?? Are you nuts?? She nailed both her layout back walkovers and her whip as smooth as butter utterly without effort.

  • Incredible! Daniela is one of the all-time greats! This was the only perfect 10 scored on the balance beam at the 1988 Olympics, and it will go down in history as the last. One of the best beam routines of all time!

  • your right!!! noone has EVER mentioned her being the last to score and olympic 10 on beam

  • Perhaps-maybe one day they will bring back the perfect 10.00-or at least a perfect score. Nadia's 10.00's are what kept the sport on the map-after Korbut put it there in 1972.

  • Wanderful! So clean ! Great technique !

  • PERFECTION!!!

  • wow, that routine was like a dream, such confidence & control, a perfect example of what a beam routine should be like. i wonder if we will ever have another silivas...

  • she really deserved 10 for this

  • Silivas did get a 10...

  • The Greatest Ever..!

    Incontestibly The Queen..!

  • Yes! I think she is the best gymnast too! So graceful and beautiful.

  • Of course she is!!!!!

  • Flawless. Looks like she is just tumbling on the floor.

  • I love this routine. One of my favorite BB routines ever. My favorite beam mount-the Silivas! :)

  • silivas has a perm like many others of the 80´s gymnasts

  • Oh? I don't think so! The spaced feets give this impression. In any case! WOW! Marvelous!

  • Perfect....in 1988 i was 1 year old...great performance. I have to say that i think that the beam was longer than now..am I right?

  • No it isn't. I think it's maybe a bit better spring loaded perhaps. :)

  • She's romanian, you soo can tell in that routine.

  • great gymnastics, FABULOUS perm!

  • this is one of the more confident beam routines ever. not even a bobble, impressively done.

  • And the most impressive thing of all is that like Nadia before her-she did it at the Olympics when the scores carried over into the AA.

  • lovely.

  • lovely.

  • still Nadia's perfect 10 at 1976 is better

  • I disagree. Imo Silivas has a bit more grace in her movements.

  • what?!?! in 1976 Nadia was like ana angel. her momvents were angelic and graceful.

  • I agree. Nadia moved like clockwork on the beam in 1976. She moved like a dream. And so did Daniela in 1988. And imo Silivas has a bit better dance.

  • the reason why nadia could move like an angel in 76 was because of her much lower difficulty. if Nadia had to the same difficulty as Daniela, she might not have done as well. Nadia's routine was like a compulsury routine in 1988, and Danielas compulsory routine was GORGEOUS, more graceful than Nadias imo.

  • Silivas is my fave-but Nadia's talent is the reason she moved like an angel on the beam in 1976. Her talent and Daniela's are pretty much equal as far as technique. They are both from two different eras-two Olympiads in between their own. You can't compare athletes from an earlier generation to another-different training, different equipment, different everything. Her coach was Karolyi-Silivas had the benefit of Goreac who seemed to emphasize more dance.

  • I disagree-it's not better-it's different and the equal of Silivas's routine. They were both the greats of their Olympiads in on this even in 1976 and 1988 respectively.
