  • I completely disagree... This game is a classic arcade - style racer, and part of the enjoyment of playing it is for the challenge.... You just ain't got it in you!

  • This game is nearly impossible to play with a regular Saturn controller. It isn't much easier with the Night's pad either, because the analog stick feels so loose. The PC version, on the other hand, has a hold feature which let you lean the bike into a turn and hold it there. It's tricky to use, but if you use an analog PC controller it's probably the best way to play. Also, I didn't know they used slipstreaming in this game.

  • ManxTT for SS came out Spring 97, Summer 97. The 3D analog controller for SS came out summer 96, and thus many games by Sega made after this featured great use of this controller. If you try using this controller, you will find greater pleasure in playing this game vs. the standard ss controller. The game case should say: supports analog controller on it. = ) one of my fav sega arc games !!!!

  • All of the 'faults' you point out are exactly as they were in the arcade. The very fact that this is even running on the Saturn is nothing short of a miracle. Considering that it looks so amazing is astonishing. But you really need to use the analogue pad at the very least - using the D-Pad is as useless as playing Soul Calibur with a fishing rod. I imagine that this is because it is a direct port of the arcade (right down to the 'inputs' code). A NiGHTS pad is hardly going to break the bank.

  • For a start, are you using Automatic transmission? Almost every racer rewards manual transmission racers with higher speed. Also, look how wide you are taking the corners - the computer is UNDERTAKING you in almost every single example you have provided.

As for the computer hitting you, that is largely because they are using slipstream against you. And the way you are steering suggests you are using a standard D-Pad which is just wrong. Analogue pad as minimum for this or any other racer.

  • For the second time, yes, I've been using manual transmission when actually trying to play the game. Also, you are mentioning the slipstream as if it is common knowledge for Saturn owners of the game. Not once, in the manual or in-game, that it mentions it. So don't blame the players for something the developers were too lazy to mention.

And I'm driving the way I am because I'm trying to drive in as straight a line as possible. Apparently, this game doesn't follow real-life logic.

  • And again, it shouldn't be wrong to use the standard controller. Players shouldn't get penalized just because they don't want or need to buy an additional controller. I've played most of the other Sega racers on the Saturn, like Daytona USA and Sega Rally, with the standard controller, and they work absolutely fine with it. This is the first game I've run into that's become an issue.

  • Try using the Saturn Steering Wheel or analog Saturn pad to play.

The AI slipstream off you so it's not rubber banding and it is faithful to the arcade. With your twitchy play on the d-pad you can't hold the best of lines, carry the speed in and out of corners. It's a totally different game if played with the right tools.

  • That's just silly. It's fine to play a game with a different controller, but to refuse to program the game to work well with the standard controller, for anyone that doesn't want to dish out extra money for a game that lasts under an hour, is absurd.

  • I guess I was lucky back in the day, 25 years old with a full time job, a woman and had the money to play it how it was intended to be played... I'd pop in to my local arcade with the practice done at home and save a fortune. Did that with Sega Rally, Daytona USA and later on with OutRun2 & OutRun2SP ect. See my OutRun Online Arcade vid as an example of what can be done at home with the correct tools. ;-)

  • That's your response? To assume I don't have any money and brag about your income? Grow up.

  • err no. Being an older gamer and following the Sega scene I was LUCKY as I said below to have the opportunity because I was aware of it. No IF's - No BUT's.

Jumping to the wrong conclusion there. Some where along the line you may not of been aware that the game could be played to it's full potential. Yes indeed on a normal PAD you were let down, step in the right direction tho as every game today uses analog controls. Evolution is a beautiful thing and ManX TT SS is part if that history.

  • Well, I apologize then. It's hard to tell sometimes how people say or mean certain things on the Internet.

  • No worries. I totally understand your point of view, if you get the chance grab a wheel or nights pad take it. ManX TT is not an easy game, and I know how even more harder it was with the normal pad as you have shown. Sorry if I came across the wrong way, Big Sega fan here thats all and if more potential can be had then it was worth saying in case you wanted to follow it it. Cheers! :)

  • Play Manx TT Superbikes arcade version, there's no such problem with AI. What ruined this port is that was made by Tantalus instead of the original team, so you have rubberband AI that makes random frustrating win/lose races. Daytona usa, sega touring car or sega rally for saturn were made by sega of japan, and do not suffer from this problem. All in all, this game is still fun for time-attack, and it's still holds it as a fast arcade racer, not a game to totally avoid imo.

  • that's correcct, in sega rally or daytona cars aren't that much of a problem, if you do nice times you'll pass them by easily with no rubberband ai, also on manx tt arcade. this is the only saturn racer from sega model2 ports that happens, the first and the last one ported by tantalus, that actually made a good job with wipeout xl/2097. SEGA arcade racers are the best hands down

  • i loved this game even with all the gripes, are you using the analogue controller????? its pretty unplayable without it

  • Rubberbanding is a staple in arcade racers though, you can't really critisise it for that.

Plus you used automatic, so you can go faster still if you use manual.

  • It's a staple that only works in arcades to make people plop in more quarters. Console gaming is different. They should have thought of that before they did the port.

I also raced in manual, even if it wasn't portrayed in the video. There's no difference.

  • But that's what Saturn mode is for.

Games still do rubberbanding, look at Mario Kart and Motorstorm.

  • It still exists in Saturn mode, even with the variation of bikes. It's just not a port suitable for a console. Shoot, Daytona USA at least has the ability to shift difficulties and have more laps.

  • But you get to race as a sheep! What other game lets you do that? ^_^

  • There's that.

  • Was the music the second only thing you liked about Manx TT Superbike? If so, I made a rip of the music. You can find the video in my channel.

  • To be fair though, I have gotten first place quite often, despite the cheap opponents.

  • nice vid

  • Sorry, andersdenkend, your comment went with the rest of the original video and page when I deleted it. I was attempting for better video quality.
