Definitely software generated. A lot of big screen TV's used to emphasize horizontal light to dark transitions. It made the light parts a little lighter right before it turned dark, and over emphasises the dark also. It helped a lot on tube-type big screens, but now days everything is high-def which doesn't always use it anymore. Sometimes you can see when a TV camera does it.

Thermal Cams cost alot....

You can get them in colour too... purple being the coldest and orange/yellow being the hottest

Well, if you READ what the title says, It ain't a ghost, it's a person who can't be seen at night but he can be seen through thermal imaging, it detects heat and therefore, you can find people easier at night :) Sorted Matey ;) :)
