That extract has convinced me. I'm ordering the DVD right after watching Shutter (the original). I've always loved that guy's work, the movie looks good...and the DVD cover is simply beautiful. Thanks for uploading that scene!
A terrific piece of acting. He really shines in this role. Because there is no love story as a major plot advancer ,it is all about his great passion for his profession. As an actor, Mr. Dalton is superlative at conveying passion. His screen time always seems too short.
I saw him do 'Touch of the Poet' at the young Vic with Vanessa Redgrave. It was theatre in the round and at one point I was as close to him as I am to the PC now. He was much much better looking int eh flesh and the voice is spellbinding. I can never understand why he didn't get the sort of breaks that Anthony Hopkins did
This is actually a pretty good movie, viewed as the story about dr. Knox, a few of the problems in promoting medical knowledge through dissection - even today a controversional
matter, nevertheless needed - or if one desires, simply as a film with good acting and scenario. Quite underestimated.
I think it's because he's too good-looking. Most, if not all of the Great Actors (Alec Guinness, Anthony Hopkins, Ian Holm etc.) are neither handsome nor ugly, neither tall nor short, but have a kind of non-aspect that helps the public to identify them with the character, whereas in Dalton's case (or the late Charlton Heston's), one never gets past their very presence.
Beauty helps actors of average talent (like Brad Pitt), but in Dalton's case it has turned out to be something of an obstacle.
I never understood it either. I happen to love Anthony Hopkins (who I'm watching right now in Dracula) but T. Dalton had everything needed to be a major movie star. Gorgeous AND can act. I think sometimes it's all just dumb luck. But maybe he was just too perfect looking?
My personal theory is that, besides being too good looking and imposing for some roles, he somehow ended up in movies that could have been good but were poorly scripted and directed, so his talent shone but was basically wasted - see Hawks, Possessed, Timeshare...
Original words by Dylan Thomas, based on the very real Dr Knox- and possibly some of the best soliloquies outside Shakespeare. Rest of the cast are to die for- the likes of Beryl Reid in a small cameo role. This film is a gem- and the brightest element is TD. Compared to this- what was the Bond bit? Only the role that probably undermined much of his real career
Can I get an Amen in here ladies...this man is too fine for words...Timothy totally immerses himself into the roles he plays and makes you hang onto every single word uttered from that beautiful mouth...sigh... :)
My mind is all a jumble, I can't think what to write I'm just so gob-smacked! I've turned into a buffoon! Brilliant acting, and he's just so damn fucking hot!
I totally agree with you - he is so DFH!!! Doesn't he have the most kissable neck in the world??? I don't think there has been another hotter man than Timothy before or since. Yes again, as Mr. Rochester he was absolutely divine, beautiful, masculine, etc. Oh, Timothy...sigh...drool...swoon... ; D
I own this movie and there isn't enough of Timothy in it. It's a good show though, and it's based on a true story. I also suggest watching "Jane Eyre" 1983, "Framed" 1992 and "Scarlett" 1994 and "Possessed" 2000 and "Hot Fuzz" 2007 for some great Timothy Dalton movies.
He was also great as Julius Caesar in Cleopatra (1999). Watch it...all of a sudden you'll want to know all about Julius Caesar! The entire movie is posted on YouTube.
Did you try "Timothy Dalton, Cleopatra" in the youtube search box? If it's not longer posted, I'm sure you can rent it or buy it. It's a Hallmark Production.
Timothy Dalton is literally the only human being in the universe who is still this hot at 65.

Anyone know where I can get a copy of this film on DVD in the UK please?

His appearance on the last Tennant Dr WHO was very timely. But why had Dalton not got a Shakespeare gig recently?

I don't know if the Bond role undermined his career but it is so very odd that TD is first known for Bond when his body of work is so MUCH MORE!!

I am of the opinion that this movie represented the very pinnacle of his hotness.
Not that he was not hot before or after, or is not hot now, mind you.
milovy 4 years ago
Pinnacle indeed! I must agree with you on that, although there is Heathcliff to consider...and Mr Rochester...and Prince Phillip...

I agree he was in his prime during this period.
