  • Foonasty,

I've seen a lot of videos that utilize a scanner to produce musical notes, how do you program the scanner to do so? I have one just sitting around and I'd really like to learn how to do this.

  • lol

  • Wow

  • EPIC WIN!

  • How?

  • Awesome:D

  • MORE SCANNER MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fake

  • how do u do this lol

  • ein bischen zu schnell

    a little bit too fast

  • @wutdehel ein bisschen zu scheisse. a little bit you r too bitchy.

  • bethoven comes out when printed

  • I can even do this with my dog, he will sing canon rock. lol

  • bet apple products can't do this nowadays. MICROSOFT FOREVER!

  • @hommedeterreful The product in the video isn't made by Microsoft...

  • @hommedeterreful

    Linux forever ;-)

  • how to do this?

  • this is funny!

  • 19 people cant afford a scanner

  • The 19 people who dislike the video's scanners cant do this

  • @TheCatMilton Neither can yours, Mr Attention Seeking Commenter.

  • @TheZookyDragon You dont have t be mean... :(

  • Poor machine :D. Very nice !

  • Holy shit, This is awesomre

  • Could you reupload this in higher quality, now that YouTube encodes in MP4?

  • Awesome!

  • And where is the piano that is able to scan a document? Ha!

  • @loudless lmao

  • @loudless

Even with an electronic piano, making one do that would call for serious skill. (aka : is that even possible)

  • @loudless :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • HP always has the best easter eggs..

  • @cotton509 yea IK my old scanjet did this the first time i opened it!

  • This reminds me of the Honda Civic road in California that plays the William Tell Overture.

  • Nicht schlecht 5/5

  • i had one just like it! xD

  • How's that even doable?

  • rock on scanner!!!!!

  • to do this hack you put the power plug upside down and press the green button

  • I thought it was by pressing UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A and then START...

  • whats a sanner?

  • You put a sheet of paper onto it and it saves it as an image on your computer.

  • @rdalea a scanner is used for scanning graphics, text, and so on as a JPEG file format onto a computer. (Windows 95 and later)

  • @WinVistaUser2

You and gbnnn don't even realize you've been trolled. The title of the video is SANNER, not Scanner. Ugh! *Throws hands in air.*

  • @serenitytyaena

    It's a mispell, dumbass.

  • @WinVistaUser2

Lol, why are you telling ME this?

  • it's able to read in documents. you do a paper on it and it will digitalize it to your computer..^^ xD

  • i thought that yes it can be modded but this was an easteregg for this model of scanner

  • How do u access the easter egg?

  • @gbnnn Hold the Scan button

  • Hahaha...

I'we seen hdd and floppy speakers, but this is crazy..

  • WTF!!!!?!?!?!?!?! how do you do that?

  • Not a very expressive rendition. It sounds too mechanical. ;)

  • Fancy that - a machine sounding mechanical!

  • Fancy that - sarcasm on the internet!

I would've thought the smiley was a clue.

  • alright thats funny

  • tooo awesome

  • lol sweet now i feel bad a scanner can play it better than me T_T

  • good to see you have a lot of time on your hands and nothing but awesome stuff to do with it.

  • dude ur so good..how did u do such a thing

  • Nope... not an Easter egg. People can mod scanners to do this. It can be done with hard drives and old dot-matrix printers as well.

  • what do you know about it?

  • Bravo more more

  • Beautiful.

  • really awesome, how do you go about programming something like this?

  • omg nice

  • AWESOOOOME :D five stars dude, its gr8t :D

  • Yep it's real, but sorry to shatter the myth: it's not a mod, but a built in easter egg. I just hacked together a Linux util to tap into it. U-Boob won't let me post the link!

No magic, no tricks, no posessed scanner -- just humour on behalf of HP's engineers, I guess. See the article in the HP Journal mentioned in the link above. Thanks for watching!

  • Just goggle ScanJetPlay...

  • awesome =)

  • and you have ą ć ę ł ń ó ź ż ? :P

  • å ä ö ^^

  • isn't it sCanner?!?!

  • zajebiste

  • To be honest, I believe YouTube doesn't support certain characters in video names.

The Umlaut would be one of those characters. : )

  • Are u one of those ignorant idiots that always write "fake" on everything u dont understand?

  • Dude.... how the hell do you do this?

  • WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAM?

  • Could you rename it to "Für Elise"? I know you don't have an ü on your keyboard, but I have^^ Just copy it from one of the comments ;-) thx a lot

  • I agree, Für Elise. Fur is a different word...

  • Elise is furry? Uh... No Thanks!^^

  • Yupp. She's a werewolf.

  • ah well - I already thought she had the fur only on some spots ;-) And a furry (not only hairy, but furry) Elise is something I don't insist on experiencing ;-)

  • Für Elise actually means For Elise.

But yeah, as said, she's a werewolf.

  • Correct spelling in the title would be nice,

  • Nice! Very well done.

  • how is it possible?

  • id rather have a lotus elise

  • but.... HOW DAMMIT, i have an old scanner and want to amaze some peeps with it....

  • Can you get a Hard drive to sing?

  • Actually yes. You can turn it into a speaker and play music through it. If you consider that singing.

  • für lise - i'm german;)

  • Es heißt Für Elise

    Elise net lise

  • sorry, dass ich das "E" net getroffen hab^^

was zählt, ist ja das "Ü"

  • Ist-du Deutsch?

  • Ja, ich bin ein Deutscher :)

  • Fantastisch. Ich bin ein Deutsche. Ich spreche ein bisschen deutsch!

  • Sorry, F'Ur Elise. My bad.

  • für :-P

  • F'ur Elise, Bravo.

  • Erm I can make an "ü" by pressing the ' button and then typing and U before hitting ANYTHING else.

Also works with others letters like :

    äüëöï

  • 'testing' 'does it work?' 'lols!'

  • lol hahaha :D

  • Thats dope!!!

  • Holy crap, H4x

  • now how long would it take to scan...

  • fÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜR Elise, Catch an Ü @ google mate =D (or get a benelux keyboard)

  • He have to get the German Keyboard layout and then he must press the key: '

  • Doesn't an english keyboard have the ¨?

  • Yes it has, but it's on the 2, like in the german one.

  • or you could just use windows charachter map

  • lol @ the bored programmers

  • Best part is when it goes back to being just a scanner.

    (0:47)

  • Sweet! Cool thing is... I HAVE A HP SCANNER TOO!!! =]

  • That is a sanner, not a scanner lol!!!!

  • lol, shame, i don't have a sanner, just a scanner =[

  • G R E A T !!! it's just call back the time, like XT AT 286, when people could programming virtually anything...of course they used """low level""" assembly codes, not """high level smart"" windows codes...

... has anyone remeber for the 5K contests? on 5kilobyte programs were running... even small animations... SO??? why bill gates need 2 gig memory? what really running on a """modern""" computer? on the C64, named about 64 kb writable memory, already the geos was running....in multitask..

  • now this is what a scanner is reli for

  • Really amazing

  • cool

  • amazing :D

  • Scary. If your scanner just started doing that...

This is how self aware machines get there start.

  • Proof that ANYTHING can be an instrument

  • FINALLY SCANNERS ARE GIVEN A TRUE PURPOSE IN LIFE *highfives*

  • This is great, how many time was needed to program this shit!!

  • more time than i would give it. lol

  • ahaha i new this could be done, my old hp printer use to make a specific sound that sounded like a washing machine.lol

  • Amazing!

  • it's cool, but i wouldn´t scan more than one time a day...

  • Haha why not? If I had that I'd be scanning all day XD

  • LMAO, WTF is that

  • So we have found the true purpose for scanners have we?

  • "What kind of HP Scanner music is that?"

    "Beethoven HP Scanner music."

"What does Beethoven have to do with HP Scanners? Everybody talks about great Beethoven was, but he wasn't so great."

"What do you mean Beethoven 'wasn't so great'?"

"He never had his picture on a bubble gum card did he? Have you ever seen his picture on a bubble gum card? Hmm? How can you say someone is great if they've never had their picture on a bubble gum card?"

    "Good Grief."

  • Why does this comment have a low score? People have never seen the Charlie Brown Christmas special?

  • I've personally never seen a bubblegum card anyway:/

  • WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?!

  • IT HAS GIVEN SCANNERS NEW MEANING!

  • hahahah that was random :)

  • What model is this? some old HP scanners have music in the rom...

  • well, I think we all know who the one on drugs is, Satori.

Anyway Junkei, it's a ScanJet 5100C, I don't think Satori noticed that it doesn't say in the description nor does it show on the video, so yeah. :)

  • who copied what? I got this SAME video somewhere online over a year ago.... :*)

  • I've just read your reply so I now know! Still it's great and thanks for posting!

  • This is most excellent!! I guess you sampled the sound of the scanner and used this to make the audio, then mixed the audio & overdubbed onto the video? Top job, into my "Best Alternate Cover Versions" playlist this goes.

  • Or that it's an Easter Egg that is present in some scanner's firmware...

    And it's not fake.

  • Never shall I see a more geeky thing than THAT!

  • There is a vid of a commodore 64 external floppy playing music...

    beat THAT!

  • Wie hast du das gemacht?

  • das isn eingebautes easteregg von HP^^

  • Beautiful.

  • nice :)

  • ... where can i buy one?...

  • That's scary!

  • no, its fur elise

  • LOL!

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttttttt

  • How it Works:.?

1: While the scanner is still on, set the address in the back to

    zero.

    2: Turn off the scanner.

3: While holding the green button in the front, turn the scanner on.?

4: Hold the button until the scanner starts making noise.

    Special Notes:

This has only been tried on Hewlett Packard 5p-5pSE scanners.

  • holy shit!!!

  • It's not fake. The scanner firmware supports a playtune command that alternates the stepping the scanner motor. The firmware developers include fur elise and the scanner can be told to play it with the correct power button sequence.

  • it really doesnt look fake if you pay close attention to the distance that the scanning head moves in relation to the pitch of the note. is it really all that unrealistic?

  • LOl.!!!

    WOWW~!!!!

    HOW THAT HAPPEN~!!!

    LOL

  • Possessed by Beethoven!?

Has to be fake, amazingly good though.

  • It's not fake. The scanner firmware supports a playtune command that alternates the stepping the scanner motor. The firmware developers include fur elise and the scanner can be told to play it with the correct power button sequence.

  • Oh, hilarious. There's a synthesizer or some other instrument in the background.

  • No there isn't. This is an easter egg put right into the printer itself.

  • sounds too good to be true... hmmmm
