they played this yesterday at my Grandpa's funeral. He was a WW2 vet and my best friend. He would have loved to have known that the Navy was there. Right before he died, the nurse asked him if he wanted anything to eat and you know what he said? He said "I want a flag". When the NYPD were putting the flag over his coffin I heard my dad say to himself "You got your flag dad, you got your flag..." and boy did he deserve it, he loved this country.

@Venon1387 My grandpa died October 30, 2009. He was my best friend, too. I told him EVERYTHING. He served in the army, I just don't know when. Grandma hasn't told me yet. When I'm with her, I remind her of Grandpa, so she likes me being over there quite often. I really miss him. I wish I could serve as he did, but my weight won't be allowed.
Every year my school has a veteran's day program (which is amazing by the way). We go through the normal stuff, recognizing each individual veteran. This year our speaker asked if there were any WW2 vets with us, and only one guy stood up. We all started clapping for him, then we all stood and were clapping for over a minute, it was fucking beautiful.
Anyway, when they played Taps and the vets instantly saluted the flag, I sort of felt their pain. God bless the troops and vets.

You know... being in the Military, I just realized, even though this always plays every night on base, you're never really used to hearing it in the context of a military funeral. You hear it at night and say, "good night, Ft. so-and-so", but at a funeral, you're saying "Good night forever, battle buddy."
This has always made me want to cry. Today, we had a Veteran's Day Ceremony and Dakota Meyer was there, and when they played this I'm pretty sure we all almost started to ball our eyes out. It's beautiful.(:

to many have fallen on the battle feild, to many have lost theire lives defending their cunry, wether it be russia or america. japan or ferminey, just to many have fallen, why do people rage war for no other reason than to gain land or to get revenge, its just not right, ive played taps to many times at funerals, my question is why does this have to happen to good soldiers, good men and wemon, goodbye to all the vetrans who have been kia, i salute you.
Everytime I hear Taps, it reminds me of being on post, hearing the trumpet over the loud speakers, and standing at attention to honor all of my fellow soldiers that did not return. God Bless America.

they played this yesterday at my Grandpa's funeral. He was a WW2 vet and my best friend. He would have loved to have known that the Navy was there. Right before he died, the nurse asked him if he wanted anything to eat and you know what he said? He said "I want a flag". When the NYPD were putting the flag over his coffin I heard my dad say to himself "You got your flag dad, you got your flag..." and boy did he deserve it, he loved this country.

When I'm with her, I remind her of Grandpa, so she likes me being over there quite often. I really miss him. I wish I could serve as he did, but my weight won't be allowed.

Every year my school has a veteran's day program (which is amazing by the way). We go through the normal stuff, recognizing each individual veteran. This year our speaker asked if there were any WW2 vets with us, and only one guy stood up. We all started clapping for him, then we all stood and were clapping for over a minute, it was fucking beautiful.
Anyway, when they played Taps and the vets instantly saluted the flag, I sort of felt their pain. God bless the troops and vets.

You know... being in the Military, I just realized, even though this always plays every night on base, you're never really used to hearing it in the context of a military funeral. You hear it at night and say, "good night, Ft. so-and-so", but at a funeral, you're saying "Good night forever, battle buddy."

I just got home from sleepaway camp, and every night we had to be silent and lay in bed and listen to this. I loved it and now thay I'm home, I am going to listen to this every night its beutiful and I love it.
