  • the movie is called Sharing the Wind. Hobie use to sell it on their website.

Its basically a 90 minute commercial for the Hobie 18, back when it first came out.

And BTW, they destroyed 3 boats shooting the last 10 minutes of the movie, sailing in surf. They hide that fact in the movie, and let you think it was all shot with one boat.

  • so this is what they did back then...

  • i've done that. still got shit stains in my pants.

  • look on youtube fro 1984 Sunkist Ad

    super jumps

  • this is hands down my favorite video on youtube. only a cat pilot can apreciate whats going on here :P

  • thats sick!!!!

  • Seriously, what is the name of the movie??

  • sweet

  • wooow jumping on a sailboat

  • fake

  • that is scarry music :O

  • is there any way you can find more of the vidio!? my coach was surfing a wave on a hobie cat the the starboarb bow snaped!! icant believe nothing hapened to this hobie!!

  • very nice Hello I am portuguese I have 4 sites for music recorded at home with 300 wotts will see thanks. very nice

  • WOW MOST 70s SHIT I'VE SEEN TODAY!

  • you cut the movie short, the guy on the wire gets tbagged about 2 seconds later. This is from the hobie 18 promotional video Sharing the Wind, they were sailing in and out of high surf. Word has it, they destroyed 3 hobie 18s making the video. They edited the boats being smashed into debris in the surf from the movie, for some reason :^)

  • Montagem!

  • boost!

  • AMAZING!!!!

they were going pretty fast!!! in fact the sail didnt even move when they took off or when they landed!!!

    put up the whole video!!!

  • @yvelf the main is clearly flapping, why do people post such nonsense?

  • @miccheck1516 U ever sailed over waves? the apparent wind shifts. Main always flaps. Both sails go all shitty on the top of the wave... I'm 13 and I know this :P

  • Always worth watching " Beach Cats World Network "

  • that was cool, but be carful.

  • oh shit!!! this is sooo epic!

  • Shit, pretty awesome!!!

  • That's insane (:

  • This is the official movie of Hobie Cat called "Sharing the wind". I'd like to find it ...

  • wow

  • @killerhotdogtoes yeah, they mean the same thing. i didnt know how many people here actually sail so i tried to keep it simple. but where im from we say falling off rather than bearing off. i know the canadians who i sail with say bearing off alot. but i actually teach sailing at a yacht club, well, used to before i joined the army. and we always taught heading up and falling off.

  • i just came

  • Haha, so epic!

  • tha one siting down is my dad... no joke!!!!!

  • @cammedstang312 Think you can dig up the full video? I'd love to see the rest of it.

  • lol

  • nice totally airborn!

how did the harness not snap on landing impact!?

  • God some were i got the entire video of this on VHS. They even drove the hobie over a big chunk of beach and back into the ocean on the other side.

  • please share!

  • I also had it as well as th 14 and 16 promo vids. If you find it Pleeeaaaase either post it or contact me as Hobie no longer have them.

  • I had that video about 20 years ago ! I remember the part when the drive over the sand ! You have to find it uplaod it and tell me about it !

  • Comment removed

  • They're aliens. Only aliens can jump so high.

  • i have see catamaran hobie 16 do flip !

  • God love the guy on the wire

  • ouch maybe?

  • OMFG I MUST HAVE IT

  • omg the music XD

  • thats actually really funny

  • how didn't they tip

  • the wind spun them towards irons rather than tip them over

  • ummm, no. deff not. if you noticed their bow turned away from the wind, not towards it. kind of the opposite of what you were saying. maybe you should watch closer next time. im assuming you do know the difference between heading up and falling off. right?

  • alright alright.

  • how did he stay on the trape through that..?

  • very good indeed

  • "The Cat That Flys!!!"

  • ahahahahahah

  • fuck

    Those guys are crazy

    btw, holy mother of franklin

  • hahaha, really great to see a jump like that! but to be honest: that piece of music is for nuclear bombs, not for catamarans! :P

  • Holy mother of franklin

  • HOBIE SURFING FTW!!!

  • holy pooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooop

  • haha thats awesome. I was sailing todayy and a kid i knew was sailing a hobie. (I was sailing a 420) Im surprised the crew stayed on your boat after that wave.

  • Holy crap...

    on a stick

  • Nice music too

  • Dean Froome and John Drisco!! THe perfect pair. Wow. I believe this took place in hawaii. I would like to see them riding over the sand bars. That was awesome. NIce video!!!!!!

Btw it is a hobie 18!!!! note the daggerboards

  • oui ce l'est

  • wow

  • what i would give to be on the windwerd side of that boat!

  • i had the same problem, you get more adrenaline then in a roller coaster :p

  • DAMN that was crazy i have done that on my 18 but i did not get that high!!!!wow....i have the same exact one but my main and jib are black

  • Dean Froome and John Driscoll!!!

    ...Hobie Cat Legends!!!

  • does he fall?

  • And we have orbit :P

  • wie soll man n das faken ?

  • BLOODY LEDGENDS

  • Wow - great sailing! Great clip!!

  • WTF my name is hobie!

  • I have that same boat. Not the exact one, but same sail and hull color. It is a real blast, even after we pitchpole it.

    The BEST BOAT EVER.

    EPICCCCCCC

  • SWEET!!

  • awesome!

  • Legendary footage! This set a standard... for years, cat sailors have been trying to duplicate this scene on film, and to have had the camera right there, at the right time is very random; not-to-mention how challenging it is to line-up a run at the break-zone without getting caught on the inside.

Is there equalled or more intense footage for catamarans out there?

  • realy cool i like it and look to my videos i dont fly but also good take care

  • Search for "1984 Sunkist Ad" for more of Dean and John's stunts.

  • wow

  • vraiement trop bie. j'ai deja fait decoler un hc16 mais de cette qualite non. domage pour moi.

  • As Executive Editor of "HOBIE HOTLINE" in Oceanside, CA circa 1979-81, I thought I'd set the record straight. The boat is a HOBIE 18, skippered by Hobie world champion Dean Froome and his crew John "JD" Driscoll. The footage was shot in Hawaii and as we say in da islands, FO' REAL! It was used in a popular beer commercial which was shown at the 1979 Hobie 14 Nationals in Lake Tahoe and documented in the "Sharing The Wind" video.

    Aloha!

  • TAKE TWO!

Coincidentally, last summer while in Hawaii with my best friend Marci Moore Forgrave, Hobie world women's champ with Annie Nelson, we ran into two of the photographers from that shoot--one on the plane and one at the Aloha Fest, whom we hadn't seen since the '70s and saw both on the same day! The rad footage of the flying Hobie is truly legendary!

As was our Hobie slogan back in da day...

    SHEET IN & MAX OUT!

    Bella Lagmay

  • I think it's an 18... note the tramp and cross beams are mounter flush the the top of the hulls and it is the same colour and sails as my old 18

  • I remember seeing this as a kid. There is another segment sailing on sand. I'd love to see the rest if anyone out there has it.

Sailed by Dean Froome and John Driscoll.

  • hobie 16, 16 16!!!!!

  • no its not. 16s dont have dagger boadrs

  • Completely real... According to what I remember this video is part of a promotional one created by Hobie Cat Company -manufacturer. The complete version has much more of these fantastic sailing boats.

  • please explained to me how you think this is fake? have you ever sailed? Have You sailed a catamaran before? have u sailed offshore before in 3 mtr swells? Please respond id like to know how far ur knowledge goes!

  • You cant be serious, have you ever sailed?

  • ur an ass

  • There is now way this is fake!!!!! You probably have never even sailed

  • Thats Dean Froome and ? at Sunset Beach on O'ahu. Classic!

  • I think this video is from a short film called sharing the wind or something like that

  • What was that music? It sounded like something off of, I dunno, Jason and the Argonauts?

  • I did the same once in Belgium with 7-8 beaufort ...

    Crazy indeed

  • nice music

  • crazy!!!!!!!!

  • omg u guys are crazy good work

  • very cool shot , wish there was more.

    T2

  • what the fuck that was crazy

  • Must be around 1980 in Hawaii.

    Great video from way back.

Have not seen in years. they ski behind it too on a dagger board.

Bet they tore that 18 up

  • It's the 1976 World's in Hawaii. Jeff Canepa on the trap wire with John Driscoll skippering.

  • fuck the hell

  • Definately a H-18. The H-21SE-SC had centerboards not daggerboards.

  • the hobie 20 has dagger boards.

  • Yes the Hobie 20 "Miracle" has dagger boards. the Hobie 21 SE and Sport Cruiser has centerboards, like the H-17....

The 20, and 21 are different boats.

  • It's the Hobie 18, seen this video at least two dozen times. It was a promo video for the 18'. Anyone have the clips where they are sailing across the sandbars???

  • its 21foot by hobie cat

  • Its a hobie 18.

  • you've been smokin to much hash.

  • What year was this shot?

  • Extracted from the movie "sharing the wind" starring john driscoll, dean froom and hobie alter jr

  • That is not a Hobie 18 by the way. It is a Nacra or something with dagerboards. Sweet jump though.

  • Sorry you are wrong. That is a Hobie 18. They do have daggerboards. The 14 and 16 don't, as they have aysymetrical hulls.

  • Oh yeah, you are correct. I read it as 16 for some reason. Lame on my part. Cheers.

  • yeah we've got an 18 and it has dagger boards....rip one of them who took on a rock last summer.
