hey man great playing! nailed it better than when i was your age! haha i was looking for this song live by the dregs and came across your video! sounds great man, very precise! anyways, when i was about your age, actually a little younger, i saw rod morganstein at a clinic with my dad! i was probably 11, it was around 1994, but anyways i hadnt seen anything like him til that point in my short lifetime! i loved this tune the most and used to try to play it right for years! keep rocking bro!
Well done! I've tried to learn the guitars on this one, and you're MUCH closer to having it on the skins than I am on the strings! Steve Morse just kicks my butt every which way!
@kchuvala Thank you! This is a great song to learn, and maybe one of these days I'll get around to uploading a newer recording of this. With better audio.
Who introduced you to this music ? Whoever did...did you a great service...why? This is real music created by musicians who studied music. You are on the track to discovery and you are doing well to learn this...I believe. Who am I ? Lets just say I am old school and I appreciate original artwork in the discipline of music. The Dixie Dregs and Steve Morse are regarded as absolute talents in the world of music. Son, you are on the right track...stick with it.
@softhotty Agree wholeheartedly with softhotty. Rod Morgenstein is a master. Steve Morse pushed him to his limits and got him to play amazing stuff. His work with Andy West on bass was nothing short of spectacular. You can't find any better musicians than the Dregs, so you're definitely on the right track. Of course, this is one of the easier songs to play; try "Ice Cakes" - the drums in the middle/late middle section kill!
Great post. (RIP T Lavitz) Have you seen the school of rock kids doing cruise control? My eyes water when I see young people taking real music seriously. Gives me hope, with so many into brainless/soulless corporate crap spoonfed them from birth. Good job dude.
@flail3 Watch out for the die cast hoops if you do a lot of rimshots. They sound great, but chew up sticks like crazy. I bought a triple flange hoop for the batter side. But this snare is awesome! I love it.
I play left hand lead on the hi hat and right hand lead on the ride. I can and do switch between the two without thinking about it. Most people never learn how to do that, but that's how I started out when I was about four.
I started playing when I was around four, and my arms were too short to play crossed, and I had no need to cross them. I taught myself how to play "right handed" when I was around eight. I usually ride right handed and play the hi hats open.
Excellent

Just curious, are you an open handed lefty? You're playing opened handed for a lefty, but your ride is on the right...

would you say this snare is loud enough for small venues un miced? I play metal/hardcore
standxdown 2 years ago
Yeah. This snare cuts. I can feel it in my eardrums if I do a hard rimshot.

would you reccomend this snare drum to someone who's looking for a snare with some resonance
