I can relate their outfits to their personalities:

Haruhi = Barbarian

Yuki = Sorceress

Mikuru = Bard

Itsuki = Wizard

Kyon = Fighter

It's just my opinion.

Haruhi: Hero: Well-balanced between weapons and attack and healing magic. Average speed, above average defense.

Yuki: Thief: Fast, and capable of stealing items. Average attack, below average defense.

Mikuru: Priestess: Promary concern is healing magic. Below average defense, average speed, poor attack.

Itsuki: Wizard: Primary concern is attack magic. Poor defense, average speed.

Kyon: Warrior: Primary concern is weapon attacks. High attack, above average defense, poor speed.
