I agree with SendMeBelow22, and this came from the Weezer demo, Mrs Young btw. You can thumbs down all you want for posting Weezer bullshit on a Rentals video, but the fact is, with Matt, Weezer would have probably remained a better band than they are today. It was Matt and Rivers that made My Name is Jonas, Matt and Rivers that worked on a collaborative project while their bands were on hiatus, and it was as such that I think Matt and Rivers really worked well together.

Yea it was kind of a dick move for Sharp to take the sound from that album and start his own band with it. I can't wait until Weezer finally releases the album from what I've heard from it it seems like it could be better than anything they've ever made.

Matt Sharp WAS a large part of Weezer's sound, though. He didn't "steal" anything.

I guess stealing is a bad way of putting it. Basically as Weezer decided on a sound for their new album which at the time was Songs from the Black Hole. It was supposed to contain alot of synths and distortion alot. Matt Sharp started writing songs around this sound that the band was going for but then decided to start a side band around this sound and used some of the songs he was writing for weezer. That's why Rivers didn't release SFTBH because it sounded too much like the Rentals.

Rivers didn't release SFTBH because one of the head producers at Geffen told him it was crap and too ambitious for a sophomore album, and that Blast Off! was the only listenable song on it. There may have been other factors but that is the main reason I think...
