  • Saw a play with this as soundtrack. Sweet.

  • dont be so uniformed in your thinking

  • Fantastic to find this here just by chance, so much fun

  • So why did you have....to be so nazi?

  • @StarsManny

    nasty

  • @toteH0se I think it was originally "nazi" but they changed it for some releases (other commentors here are saying the same thing).

This song was from back in the day when some pop stars thought it was cool to make nazi references in their songs.

  • @StarsManny It was indeed originally 'Nazi' (Adam in puerile-humour mode). When Adam made it big, the word was then overdubbed to 'nasty' – quite ineptly – for the B-side of one of his chart singles, resulting in the excruciating spectacle of Legs & Co (or whoever) dancing, in 'sexy' German outfits, to the 'censored' version on TOTP. I almost got into trouble by writing a ranting letter to R1's Kid Jensen about it, which he read out on air (sounding faintly perplexed!

  • One of the great punk guitar intros, stunning stuff.

  • @FLAGSTOREUK

Yeah, the original lyrics were 'Nazi' instead of 'nasty'. IIRC the vocal was re-dubbed on the original (from the 'Jubilee' OST) before being issued as a single around 1982.

The B-side - 'Plastic Surgery' , also lifted from the same soundtrack - is a great track as well, IMO.

  • this song is cool but what is Deutscher?

  • @weirdkb It's the german word for "German". It means, then, German Girls.

  • @weirdkb Deutscher means (the) German and also the male form of (a) German. It should be Deutsche Girls, which is the female form of (a) German .... ha ha

  • @misannthorpe HERP DERP Adam was about YEARS before Blur

  • @wenchsammas Eh ... it's all oldschool London, innit

  • LOVE LOVE!!!

  • the guitar reminds me a lot of roxy music's 'prairie rose', undoubtedly an influence on adam and everyone else at that time

  • ha ha what you wrote on my channel comes across as green eyed envy, hence I shall leave it there.

  • Kara

  • love this single..great guitar & just too funny lyrics..strutt!

  • What an absolutely Great tune always fab to listen to it great times. Rock on Mr Ant x x x Kt

  • One of Adam's favourite singers as a youngster was Perry Como and Como's influence can clearly be heard on this song and indeed in much of the early Ants material!

  • This is a rip off of Elastica!

  • @MisAnnThorpe A rip off of Elastica? A good trick if you can pull it off, seeing as this was recorded fifteen years BEFORE Elastica got together. Justine Frischmann would have been eight years old when this came out!

  • @Riordan59 Precisely. Sucker! Yeah I know it's very immature of me but I am immature!

  • @MisAnnThorpe Meh!

  • Deutscher is British slang for Sausage/Braut eater...Auf deustche ist ein Mann aus Deustchland....Pretty sure he meant Sausage eater ;-)

  • @rekkof Braut is a married maiden ... Are you sure you mean Sausage/Braut eater ? Someone who eats the Brauts Sausage ?????

  • GREAT SONG!! I swear I'm gonna get my (metal) band to cover this and extend it a couple of minutes and make it HEAVY while trying to keep it true. Well, as true as possible. The part where he sings wah wah wah I'm gonna play a solo with an extreme wah effect. I'm not trying to be egotistical please dont take me that way I just love AatA's and think they need to be reintroduced cuz theres just so many ppl that havent been blessed in the ear with Antmusic and its a shame.

  • How can one person have so many creative ideas ? Genius

  • Why did he have to go and ruin it all by bringing out bloody Prince Charming

  • what they meaning with "deutscher girls"? when they meaning german girls, then the correctly translation is "DEUTSCHE GIRLS" (without "R")

  • Just a quick question about the montage: Where did you find that scan of the In The City #13 magazine? If you have a larger resolution scan of it or any others with Adam or Gary Numan on it, it be awesome if you linked it to me. :)

  • ich bin deutschee madchen/frau:D :D :D hahah love this ♥

  • # Oh why Did you have to be so Nasty #(sic)... Political Correctness rearing its ugly head even back then!

  • THE ANTZ ROCKED IN THE 70s BUT WHY DID THEY DO ALL THE PRINCE CHARMING SHIT

  • Blur ripped off this, mate. 25 years later or so.

  • Should it not be "deutsche girls" with no "r" ??

  • misannthorpe----you are an idiot

  • We are the press darlings the press darlings the press darlings the press darlings the press darlings the press darlings the press darlings the press darlings press darlings press darlings press darlings press darlings press darlings we depress the press darlings

  • hahahah...blur?? this was forever before blur..!! lol

  • @MisAnnThorpe -- This song was recorded in 1977.

  • @memphismadam I know you are American but I thought it was obvious I was taking the piss!

  • @memphismadam lmfao

  • @memphismadam Blur ripped this off if there be any ripping off to be done-Im sure good ole Damon was a twinkle in his daddys eye at the time ffs!!! Get yr dates sorted!! :D

  • @memphismadam NOI IT WASNT

  • @memphismadam NOI IT WASNT , LATER LAME RE RECORDING

  • @memphismadam and released in 82

  • @MisAnnThorpe HA!

  • @MisAnnThorpe

Only if Adam can add chrono musician to his other achievements!

  • @MisAnnThorpe How the fuck can it be rip off from Blur? this was released at least 10 years before Blur existed...

  • @TheBleech Are you American as well? Check my reply to memphismadam!

  • @MisAnnThorpe LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • @reme147 I'm unfortunately unable to answer your question as to where Blur were born and in fact, had no idea they were born in 1977. All of them? Are you sure? As far as I know they are all British born. I do, however, think it unlikely that The Ants ripped Blur off. I don't think Blur even released their first single until around 88/89, whereas Dirk wears white sox, was released in 79!

  • @MisAnnThorpe

my key board must have been playing up,lots off missing words. something has lost lost along the way??

i don't know when blur where born, and i am sure Adam and the ants couldn't read the future. i think blur may have got ideas from Adam ant though, lol

    stu

  • @MisAnnThorpe They are from Colchester, Essex, England All born between '68 and '70 Their first hit as far as I know (which I recorded off the radio in early '91!) No internet in '91! was "There's No Other Way". But I think they formed in about '89. I'm sure they were influenced by (among other stuff)..The British Punk era '76 to'78...especially the London lt which included pre. 80's pap Adam and The Ants

  • @MisAnnThorpe I'll be one of the few people to NOT rip you a new one. Honest mistake...but yeah, Blur's from Colchester and were born in the mid to late 60's...Mostly relevant in the early 90's. Unlike everyone else, I LOVE Blur AND Adam and the Ants (2 of my favorite bands). So what if Blur did rip these guys off. At least they were inspired by somebody good, right? :)

  • @MisAnnThorpe no-bBur is a rip off of this FFS! And I like both thanku muchly-get yr dates right!

  • @MisAnnThorpe Blur was the ripper-offer-as already said-RELEASED in '77 when Damon Albarn was barely wind in his dads pants! :D

  • @MisAnnThorpe You are an idiot!

  • @dcny69 Yes, you are correct but would you mind me asking why YOU believe this to be so? If you have failed to realise that I am taking the piss, then I am obliged to inform you that you too are an idiot!

  • @MisAnnThorpe Ugh, were you serious with this comment?

  • @helloolleh555 Yes. Deadly!

  • @MisAnnThorpe bahahahaha

  • @MisAnnThorpe you fucking retard :L

  • @MisAnnThorpe

this sounds nothing like blur. and it was recorded in 1977. so i think blur ripped off of this

  • @MisAnnThorpe That's absolutely correct. Well spotted! I'm pretty certain they were hugely influenced by Nine Inch Nails as well. They even covered NIN's "Physical"!

  • @MisAnnThorpe *face palm*

  • @Chaaaaaaaaaarlotte Or alternatively; your face, my fist, smack! Don't even try when you can't even spell your own name you humourless little non-entity! Unless of course you are an American, in which case your inability to understand irony is perfectly normal and I apologise unreservedly for my aggressiveness.

  • @MisAnnThorpe Ooh someone's a bit grumpy.

So I have an inability to understand irony, and therefore deserve an utterly ridiculous response from someone who is either a complete moron in thinking that in the first place, or who is infact the 'humourless little non-entity'.

I mean, a comment on Americans? That all you got? I'm English, just so you know.

Oh, and my name is spelt correctly, just because I elongated it doesn't mean it's wrong. But I wouldn't expect a moron like you to get that.

  • @Chaaaaaaaaaarlotte Respect for your spirited retort. However, I still insist you spell your name incorrectly!

  • @MisAnnThorpe My name is spelt correctly thank you very much. But as I said before, elongation. I'd have thought someone as stuck up their own backside such as yourself would have heard of that. But isn't 'miss' spelt with two s's? Please shush, you annoy me.

  • @Chaaaaaaaaaarlotte Seeing as you reject my offer of an olive branch, (I was apologizing for my overreaction to your merely puerile, initial two word comment) and again demonstrate your inability to comprehend ironic humour, (yes, I do understand elongation!) I think perhaps I ought to explain that my username, is actually a play on the word 'misanthrope', (can you see the difference?) but then I wouldn't have expected you to possess the intelligence to have worked that out for yourself!

  • @MisAnnThorpe And yet, you cannnot face my humour and feel the need to explain your every notion to me. Good one.

  • @Chaaaaaaaaaarlotte Who told you you have a sense of humour? Is it my fault you don't know what "misanthrope" means?! If you had any humility about you whatsoever you'd be thanking me for extending your vocabulary for you. It's nice to know you're appreciated.

  • @MisAnnThorpe Oh god I forgot about you.. You need to get out more ¬_¬

At first this was relatively entertaining, now it's just sad.

  • @Chaaaaaaaaaarlotte Now just have a little think about what you've just said. Yeah right, like you're capable of having a big think! It's taken me 3 months to respond to something you wrote. Now, that might suggest that I actually do have a life of sorts outside of the internet. Can you say the same? Go on admit it, you were overjoyed to hear from me again. You love me really and I you!

    Regards

  • @MisAnnThorpe First of all, what on earth is a big think? That doesn't even make sense o_O

And no, the fact that after 3 months you actually bothered to reply is what creeps me out.

Oh all right, I admit it, you are the light of my life and in seeing the email saying you'd replied I was so overjoyed I jumped up and down and squealed like a little girl. You got me.

  • @Chaaaaaaaaaarlotte One of the many things I love about you is that you are so literal. Naivety is such a rare commodity nowadays and all the more attractive for it. You can slag me off any time you want. Let's be friends! Please!

  • @MisAnnThorpe Oh of course we can, what a wonderful idea! We could continue this slagging banter for who knows how long! The rest of my life is now prepared.

  • @Chaaaaaaaaaarlotte Oh and one of the other things I so adore about you is that you are so confrontational it's almost like looking in the mirror!

  • @Chaaaaaaaaaarlotte Now this Mr freqeist, (shouldn't that be Freakeist?) responded to my admittedly juvenile & ridiculous comment with a 1 word "dickhead" reply. When I responded in kind by leaving a 1 word comment on his channel page (which I won't repeat here but it consists of 4 letters, the 1st of which is a "c' & the last one a "t"!) he really took exception to it. Obviously he thinks it okay for men to use offensive language towards women but not the other way around. Skateboarding tosser!

  • @MisAnnThorpe Why thank you, the same to you!

Oh good god, I know. I have a fair few friends and what not that are exactly the same.. Coincidently they are also skaters.. Maybe it's just a genetic trait that comes with skating..

  • @MisAnnThorpe cunt, its cunt and that is you.

  • @freqeist You really are losing the plot aren't you! I'd be worried about you if I gave a damn. Look, I know I'm probably the wrong person to be advising you as I'm aware it's likely to aggravate your condition, coming from me but I say this for your own good; Try to avoid posting comments when you are obviously highly agitated. Apart from anything else, it does absolutely nothing for your already extremely limited vocabulary & only makes you look even more disturbed than you do ordinarily.

  • @MisAnnThorpe you are quite labile at the moment aren't you? Try to calm your flights of ideas and ramblings.

  • @freqeist Despite your avowed espousal of (legal?) medication, everything you write leads me to believe that were I ever unfortunate enough to be in your position, I would try anything not to go down that route. I thought these drugs were supposed to prevent psychotic delusions, not cause them! They're also affecting your memory. YOU described yourself as an 'old skateboarder'. It's still on your channel page if you don't believe me! I haven't blocked you from commenting on mine. Have a look.

  • @MisAnnThorpe yawn... yes i made a mistake about the blocking thing.

  • @freqeist Oh, I think I may owe you an apology. I was suggesting before that your inability to communicate normally was likely connected with your writing whilst angry. Much like choosing your clothes when one is in a bad mood it's not a very good idea. I mean, have you ever seen a well dressed cross dresser? I now realise that it's almost certainly the medication that's affecting your linguistic abilities. Please accept my sincere apologies. Btw, what does "labile" mean?!

  • @MisAnnThorpe look it up?

  • Comment removed

  • @MisAnnThorpe atleast I did not block you from my channel, chicken.

  • @MisAnnThorpe wow, you own this video forum, haha...also, amusing to see you have a top rated comment while simultaneously one voted down so much....btw, i love the name - i got it immediately (oh yeah, now i deserve a spot in the cool-kids club)

  • @carlo88moe I think, unless I'm very much mistaken that the top rated comment you refer to is actually for someone else! It's nice that every now and again someone has the intelligence to see through my puerile sense of humour. The number of people with less understanding of irony than Alanis Morrisette is truly astonishing. I'm just waiting for the first person to take offence at my Perry Como comment. It can't be too long now, surely?

  • @MisAnnThorpe You've been bickering on this video for over a year? That's just.. amazing.

  • @MisAnnThorpe dickhead

  • Comment removed

  • @MisAnnThorpe For those that are curious the removed comment was a 4 letter word starting with "c" & ending in "t" posted to Freakiest, er, sorry freqeist, in response to his unsolicited & unprovoked "dickhead" comment. I immediately retracted my retort as I saw no reason to inflict it others & sent it to his personal channel page! As you can see for yourselves Mr. Freqeist has become increasingly abusive & less in control (think Tourettes meets St. Vitus dance!) with each subsequent comment.

  • @MisAnnThorpe cunt, it suits you, it your word, you should embrace it.

  • @freqeist nice word for a girl to say.. its actually what you are.

  • @MisAnnThorpe rip off of Blur! I`m still laughing at that ridiculous statement..think before you speak.

  • @freqeist If you had an ounce of intelligence then you'd probably realise that I'm actually merely winding up dullards like your bad self. You might want to have a look at some of my other comments here although then again you might not! Apologies for using such a wonderfully powerful, evocative & inappropriate word to describe you earlier but I've now downgraded you to a "knobshine". I feel beneath the shite there is a knobshine suffering from centuries of "braining".

  • @MisAnnThorpe very slow retort, you are an idiot and it took you three hours to come up with that response, keep taking the medication, seriously, it works.

  • @freqeist I'll just have to take your word for it. Unfortunately there's a big price to be paid for it, hence the "braining". I mean how else can you explain the skateboarding?! Oh and please forgive me for taking so long to respond to your previous comment when it was so obviously demanding an urgent response! Some people just don't know when they're out of their depth and what's more you're not even wearing your inflatable plastic floats. Foolhardy or what?

  • @MisAnnThorpe yeah I`ve be skateboarding for 30 years miss-personality-disorder, what's wrong with that? Its called having a life which you obviously do not have. Now go away and don't forget its time for your depot injection soon.

  • @freqeist Is that really the best you can do Mr. Freakiest? I seem to have hit a raw nerve and located your Achilles heel. Old skateboarding injury per chance? That must be some bloody strong medication you're on if it allows you to believe that having skateboarded for 30 years constitutes 'having a life'! You're a comedian and you don't even know it. No, actually, make that a joke.

  • @MisAnnThorpe go away nobody likes you p.d.

  • Remember them...FAB!

  • Surely the image at 2:05 is an epic FAIL!! Looks like he's giving his twin brother the reach around...

  • Of course the original is "nazi" - I have a vinyl copy of the original, it's quite clear

  • i wanna be that koala bear....

  • he almost looks like a kid in that 1977 film jubilee - maybe thats why his characters name was kid!...

  • the original release said `nazi` but they had to change it to `nasty`after some countries refused to release it.The japanese version and the australian release kept the `nazi` lyrics.

  • i was on a lyric site-they had "why did you have to be so nasty? i'm pretty sure it's "nazi". that's the whole point of the references!

  • amazing song did he write the music?

  • I don' t think the nationality of the girl matters at all. Or her hair colour.

  • 1:43 has just made my day.

  • @lo0pylupin

1:37 has just made mine! :)

    Rock On Lo0pylupin!

  • Love it

  • Oh thank you guys. I was just wondering.

    Still.

    omnomnom.

  • Yes,

    It's Adam at 1:51.

  • Is the picture at 1:51 adam ant?

    o.o'

    hmmmmmmomnomnom.

  • @Beatmyguest001 It's from the movie Jubille and you can find it here on youtube. :) Hope that helps

  • Thanx for sharing !! Well done !!

Remember, when my elder brother brought the song

    to home+we listened it again+again ...+ can't get enough from it !!

    Very nice memories !!

  • This reminds me of a sticky moment with a girl called debbie G. i was 14 and she was 17, and it was 1983. you just can't trust woman...

  • Wow, I did not notice that Ultra Vox was on t he cover too along with Adam and Gary Newman.

I would have loved to have gotten my hands on that magazine back then. I would have gone mad for a copy!!

  • Oh my gawd, I love this man, and this song. He is my idol. His autobiography was fantastic and loved him that much more every page I read :D.

I just wish I was around in the 80's to experience his American tours.

  • gabeester, youre absolutely right.Lester Square and Andy Warren were in the early original line up but then left the ants before their first gig.If memory serves me right there was a lot of people leaving and new members coming in.There was a few who left to form Bow Wow Wow as well. The band didn't stabilize until Kings of The Wild Frontier album.

  • Hmmm. There was Marco, Merrick, Terry-Lee, Gary Tibbs and yours truly.

Now I remember Kevin Mooney who I think recorded on the KOTWF album but left soon after it was released.

Now, yer man Lester Square was an original member. Before they were called AATA they were called The B sides.

Matthew Ashman went to play guitar for Bow Wow Wow but died from diabetes.

Marco Pirroni originally played with Siouxsie and the Banshees in about '76 ish.

That's all I can remember for now. I'll Google the rest.

  • thanks for clarifying Nick. The Ants are one of those bands with members that are linked to other equally exciting and important bands.Memory isnt what it used to be.I remember ordering Dirk Wears White Socks.(Sox?) from N.M.E. in 80.coming on the morning of my seventeenth birthday!Could Sid Vicious have played drums with Siouxsie on that same bill as Marco did.I m sure he played at the 100 club.with them on the Lords Prayer.I still think Dirk is Adams best work though.

  • Yes. I did a bit more research (i have no life) and was surprised to read that Sid Vicious played on the same bill. I was only 12 in '80 so all my punk rock era knowledge was gained retrospectively. But I was a huge Ants fan at the time. Me and my brother used to play the Kings album over and over on our old record player that was the size of a sideboard.

    Drove our mum potty.

IPod nano? Nah. Give me an old stylus and a 33rpm turntable.

  • where did you get the info that the ants renamed themselves "the monochrome set"

  • Comment removed

  • get your facts right mate, saw them over 30 times, monochrome set were going around the same time.

    monochrome line up;-

    bid

    lester square

    jeremy harrington

    john d haney

    tony potts.

    no ants members there?

  • @tony2329 (sorry, I know I'm replying to a v. old post) You're right that the Ants didn't 'rename themselves The Monochrome Set', but two members of early Ants line-ups did subsequently form/join TMS (tho I'm not about to claim an encyclopaedic knowledge of the dates/order of events/order of line-ups): Lester Square and Andy Warren were both pre-chart Ants, but later part of TMS.

  • this was the ants at their finest, b4 "goody two shoes" oh my god what happenned?

  • This is a totally different "Adam & The Ants" - the only member of the band that's the same on this recording is ADAM himself!

In 1978 Adam Ant split from this version of The Ants and the band renamed itself The Monochrome Set.

The early singles by the Monochrome Set sound EXACTLY like the band on "Deutscher Girls," but with a different lead singer!

Check them out - you won't be disappointed.

  • I love your blonde hair

    I kiss your pig tails

    And i could not share

    The scratch of your nails...

  • First Ant song I ever heard!! Still love it topieces ater all these years! Now that is great music for you!!! never fails to get me up and hoping about!!

  • punk you vol.1

  • "Jubilee" Soundtrack too

  • Fun, Filth, And Fury??

it also had magazine, penatration, the ruts, the skids, and etc???

  • Great pics but my fav is at 1:51 from Jubilee or the cover of the In the City with him and Gary Newman on the same cover at :17. Love a copy of that!!!! Pay handsomely for it!! *ehem*

  • One of the most underrated musicians of his generation.

  • Great collection of pics!

  • Wow me encantó el video. Tanto la canción como las fotos de Adam. ¡Gracias!

  • De nada y muchos gracias

  • the original version has the word "nazi" instead of "nasty"

  • peel session or demo coz he also sings in german ,which i think is peel session

  • After reading "Stand and Deliver," I've learned that Adam's younger years were rebellious, to the point where he sported a swastika, for no reason other than to be rebellious. He was unaware, at the time, of the significance of the marking. He did it all for shock value.

I think that most of us can say that we were ignorant at one time or another. We all learn from our mistakes. But Mr. Ant (or Mr. Goddard — whichever you prefer) remains a true pioneer with his music & talent.

  • Well said!

  • Thank you!

  • It's not the original version.......

  • tell me more. what do you mean, is there another version? did this guy EVER STOP working?

  • Adam said: "Anyone over the age of thirty is mine." How tragically true that is. He's a bloody witch....and our dripping hearts are his. ;-)

  • great to see so many class pics of adam, hope he doesnt see my vids, lol,

  • ...classic!!!

  • ...and the deustche men ;)

  • That man is a GENIUS. This was just the start, Been a fan from 79.First single a got was kings they dont sing or write pop songs like that any more.

  • ...one thing...i love adam he said "deutschen" and not "german"...we was no germans...we are deutsche!
