I dont have a big mirror at home so i cant see my full body so i has to practice without one :/ hmm.. i watch the musicality vs rhythm video im not sure if i understood it corectly gah so much to learn
Even though you sure talk a lot, I gotta say that it's one of the most useful videos I've seen in a while. You know a lot of different styles, and it's usually hard to see something usefull with all of em combined, so thanks a lot
I just wanted to say thanks man. I've been dancing for like idk 2 years and I am told am a great dance but you know. I know I got a lot of stuff to learn. My style is like hip/hop pop and ticking then you got me into like tutting. Now you like inspired me to want to expand to like everything like Im starting to break and crump, and man yea just wanted to say thank you! Thanks Man!!
@Muzicsoulrhythm You are amazing. Your one of the most unappreciated dancers/artists on youtube but your also one of the best teachers and freestyler i've seen. You have radically changed my dancing literally overnight. You really opened up a lot of doors when it comes to dancing for me. Thanks a lot and keep posting, especially the dropping knowledge videos.
I totally agree with you Shawn. It is like having a no style is the best style; so when you let your body move to the music, you will be making moves on the spot. In addition, it won't look repetitive and you will have your own signature moves.
dam bro your not a dancer your an expresser with movements ;p do what u do and keep doin it ever since i first started i learn most of my stuff from u especially the tuts
This By Far the best dance Video on youtube and you didn't have to even teach a combo. You have very good concepts and philosophy to dance, ahaha did anybody ever tell you look like the guy in "Blue Scholars"? You should do a vid on how to start choreographing.

I used to break for a month and i wanna get back into it again... but i get really put off after hurting myself practising a few moves. what should i do?
In order to freestyle well, you must be WILLING to go through that "looking stupid" phase so that you will know what to correct. It's like singing. You gotta hit some sour notes in order to smooth em out or at least know your limitations. Most people wanna look perfect and sound perfect right off the bat, and since they CANT they just do nothing but criticize others who are trying... and will one day succeed.
I really improve a lot. Im not a good dancer but i can dance now and feel so good when dancing. Thanks for all the knowledge Shawn! Thanks for inspire. Keep rockin beats! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!
shawn, I really hope you can give me some advice on my freestyles. I try to learn on my own, so i need you to give me advie for improvment !!! I have been watching your vids since a while back, and also loyal suscriber!!
Again just wanna say great vid Shawn. To the rest of you, build up you foundation. The wider your foundation, the better you will get. And just watch others for inpiration and build off of what inspires you. The biggest ppl to watch for me are Mr. Wiggles, Nam Hyun Joon, Hozin, Poppin Ds, Phillip Chbeeb, Poppin Zero, all these guys are great. Mr. Wiggles is mos def my biggest inspiration because its like he doesn't have to dance at all he looks great just groovin. Check him out if u haven't.
continuing to what i was saying.. i kno for a fact shawn has a trained eye.. lol i dont kno if he calls it that but im pretty sure he knows what im talking about and the only reason he has that trained eye is bcuz of the years of practicing just like the judges on sytycd.. all that ballet shit looks the same to us bcuz we've never tried it or done it so when those judges pick out little faults, its because they have the trained eye.. u cant get that shit in a few months. it takes years
@khriskhaos2 I agree with you, In order to be a good teacher or guru you DEFFINATELY need experience and a "trained eye" as you call it. But how much experience depends on who your teaching. For example, if your gonna be a youtube guru your gonna need to be pretty darn good so you dont get loads of hate. Also, if you wanna take up dance teaching professionally then you need loads of experience. But you dont need a "trained eye" to teach your mates a move or show off on the dance floor.
Great video again. I am not a dancer or anything but what I can tell you from my martial arts experience is that as long as you let the music move you, you will be making moves on the fly. The best part would be that they won't be "formula" moves, but you have to be on beat and look clean.
nice shawn, really cool thanks a lot. Been watching since begining. The only way to improve yourself is to practice and have fun with what you do. SHAWN TAUGHT ME THAT SHIT> Again thanks so much Shawn and DZ, Remedey, and loco for all that you guys have done.
Thanks for the vid Shawn..i have been watching your videos for a couple years and out of all the dancrs on youtube, you are by far one of my biggest inspirations. I remember back when all i could do was little glides and waves (about a year ago)..but from watching your vids along with alot of others i can see myself starting to grow.. i even made a youtube finally...i just made it a couple weeks ago..im not great but ive came a LONG way from where i was..THANK YOU..and check me out sometime =)
@LiveHumbleDanceHard just pointing out some ideas to bring that soul out of everyone...i had trouble showing emotion when i first started..through time and practice and just relaxing i "learned" how to show more passion
@Muzicsoulrhythm hi. the end reeeeaaaaallly came in handy. i used to try to become a victor kim or a jabbawockee but that end made me think and act different. thnx man!
@Muzicsoulrhythm man i love u . i am a beginner wid all dis shit . i hav been follwin choreography and breakdance for like 6 mnths & every time my excuse to quit will be "i hav long way to go " but after dis video . u got me mann! thanx.
I believe having a strong foundation is critical to further progression - also I found that watching videos of people like shawn, and other really good dancers helps as well, not biting, but just exposing your mind to other styles, movements, etc - finally i think learning choreo, creating choreo is a good way of expanding your freestyle - oh yeah, and one thing I do sometimes is listen to a song and visualize myself dancing to it in my mind(sounds weird) but try it and you'll understand

the best i learned how to improve my freestyle is by watching people like u and learning to do the robot which is basically nothing else but isolations
the biggest problem most people have though and the thing that makes them want to quit is sloppiness and their shit looking wack after multiple years.. only way that can be fixed is like shawn said.. practice lol.. you gotta understand that you will suck for a looong time unless u got money to take classes every week.. anyways, good video!
@khriskhaos2 ND IF YALL 4 DONT KNOW...Shawn nd khris khaos are at least in the top 20 most widely viewed dancers...Shawn from willingness 2 teach us views something same thing 4 khaos, nd there ability 2 mix styles..if u havent subscribed 2 these channels and ur trying 2 really improve you realli should like NOW...at such a young age the both have revolutionized dancing as a whole so idk bout yall but I would listen 2 what these 2 gentlemen said! Just saying...
@khriskhaos2 I disagree, I think if your naturally good at dancing "sorry for the cliche" then it's not gonna take too long, Im not tryna be arrogant but I only started dancing about 2 months ago but already I would like to think Im pretty good. I think if you have a good sense of rhythm and coordination, and watch lots of tutorials and vids of really excellent dancing, then ur gonna pick it up pretty darn quick.
@demonaca123 u can say that you are pretty good in the sense that you can dance but what you should kno is that there are different levels of dance in terms of skill and experience.. only a dancer with OVER 3 years of dance has enough experience to have this thing i call the trained eye where u have pretty much seen everything and trained in multiple styles of dance to the point where u can teach master classes bcuz u can see the smallest faults in a person's dance and you kno how to help them
@demonaca123 if you honestly think you're pretty good at dancing after 2 months you haven't even scratched the surface. get ready to be humbled in the next year and a half.
@ThAAnchormAn 2 months is a guess, It may well be closer to 6 or even longer, and no I dont think im pretty good, but I'm better than ok and within 1 and a half years I would Imagine i would be a hell of alot better
@demonaca123 WTF?!?!? how do you confuse 6 and 2 months?! that's not even logical hahahha. Oh and let me quote your comment earlier "Im not tryna be arrogant but I only started dancing about 2 months ago but already I would like to think Im pretty good." to honestly say that your pretty good after 2 months is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. And im saying that you're going to see videos in the next year and a half that will prove my point exactly. You're no where close.
@ThAAnchormAn I'm sorry, I forgot to count the days since I started dancing, I forgot that some idiot that has never seen me dance was going to start a fight on youtube.
I really can't be bothered to argue again so If you send another comment I'm gonna ignore it. I wouldnt be suprised If I'm better than u at dancing but who really cares.
@demonaca123 Im sorry you're mentally incapable to decipher between 60 days 180 days. That must cause you problems in school man. too bad. AND im the idiot. oh and i dont care if you're better than me or not, you havent learned my point yet. But who really cares right?
Great vid, but I'd like to add, as a dancer myself, learn from those who pioneered the dance. Look up those who came before us, Buddha stretch, Mr. Wiggles for example. One thing I tell people all the time, just learn how to move, don't worry about thinking about what to do. The music dictates what kind of dancer you are. We are dancers first and foremost. Like Shawn said, just move and add on to that. Also learn the history of the dance too, that has really helped me with my freestyle.
