Secondly, the cost of these tests is far greater than any potential money the state would save. Did you know that only about 2% of all welfare recipients in FL actually tested positive? And lastly, when it comes to race and drug crime the numbers are unfairly stacked against minorities (do some homework on that one, its well known).

Is a retired senior supposed to raise their grandchildren on their retirement money? Is a disabled person on SSI/SSDI supposed to raise their children on their disabilty money? How about a single parent with no support who has a sick child who needs home care? Are all these children supposed to be placed in foster care? It would still cost you money and destroy the stability of the family.

@PeteLogan69 Actually Michigan was the first state and they threw out the law on the basis that it violates the 4th amendment rights of welfare clients to drug test them without probable cause.

Nor should we give favorable testing to certain abusive naracotics. The problem here of course comes when someone is taking them for medical reasons which obviously would have to be permitted. But there are people out there who abuse the system, there's couples out there that have a bunch of kids just to get more money. Not sure how it is where your at, but in new York they give like $1,200 a month extra per kid or something like it, but then again maybe it has improved and I didn't know about it.

People get to purchase more food, the stores get to sell more food so it does't rot, and the farmers get to sell their products to the stores. In other words it increases the flow of foods to the public through the stores. I can tell you that 90 dollars a month helps a poor person senior or disabled to make ends meet. It is not supposed to cover their entire food budget

We need to drug test all welfare recipients weekly and randomly! If you think about it we would actually save a lot of money. I live in so Cal... and in my particular town... 72% of the population is 100% dependant on Government assistance! Also at least half of the population is addicted to hardcore drugs. Mostly Meth. So wouldn't you say this is enough evidence of abuse to the welfare system? Welfare and food stamps was not created so that we can fund everyones drug habit.

LoL it also implies that ur depending on ppl to keep doing drugs and never quiting or your going to lose ur money b/c u have to pay ppl back if they're clean. in addition to that this only really affect marijuana smokers cuz if u use cocaine,ecstacy or meth, it only stays in ur system for a few days as oppose to pot which stays in there much longer. when the majority of ppl come back positive, thats extra money that taxpayers will pay lol

Im glad drug testing for welfare has started, its only fair to the people who have to do drug testing for a JOB. why do i have to do drug testing to go to work if the people that are sitting on their butt and doing nothing all day dont have to do it for FREE money. I work in a grocery store and theres people who come in with their EBT cards and buy Cigarettes and draw hundreds of dollars from many of our registers every month, if you need help thats fine but I REFUSE to pay for people to get

@PeteLogan69 Actually Michigan was the first state and they threw out the law on the basis that it violates the 4th amendment rights of welfare clients to drug test them without probable cause.

(cont) Now given I do agree that they shouldn't be charged for said process unless found aforementioned guilty of taking illegal narcotics. Nor should we give favorable testing to certain abusive naracotics. The problem here of course comes when someone is taking them for medical reasons which obviously would have to be permitted. Not a perfect solution by far but I think it's a start in the right direction.

@jfsfrnd Yes but it does mean they have enough expendable money that they feel they don't need to spend it on food / living costs, etc. I'm sorry, but if your on welfare and out entertaining yourself then somethings wrong, you should only be on welfare if you have absolutely no money to live on, not if you have extra expendable income you feel you can blow getting high, especially when doing those drugs is going to mean no job and thus no possibility of getting off welfare.

Being on welfare doesn't mean that you only pay for rent food and bills and have no money left. You can go to a movie, out to dinner, buy a magazine, buy cigarettes or beer (totally legal), buy anything you want with the money left over.

One shouldn't be receiving more money from welfare than what is neccessary, if you're going out and spending it on movies and having fun, you're getting to much. You still haven't yet justified why I, nor anyone else, should be paying for someone else to have fun.
I didn't steryotype anyone, all of those people receive money from special programs not welfare. (Medicare, social security, etc)

@jfsfrnd (cont) On top of this it's completely irrelevant if you payed for the drugs or got them from a friend, the fact is if your ON DRUGS chances are you're NOT going to get a job as no employer is going to want to hire someone on drugs. Thus if you're not able to get a job, or just extremely unlikely, then you're basically staying on welfare and not trying to recover, THIS is the problem. It's HUGE drain on society and not fair for the people booting your bill when you're not trying.

Ya know this is one situation I have to disagree on you with. There are tons of people on welfare that take drugs and frankly I'm tired of paying for peoples drug habbits. Now given I do realize some people don't, but there are many more that are just popping out kids they can't afford and using their money to buy their next high. If they want to get free money (not unemployment they earned) then why should testing not be legit? I'm guessing we'd save more money than we'd spend.

@jfsfrnd Well maybe not right after, it takes a few months for most woman to recover from birthing a baby. Yeah I guess it depends on the individual's case. But there are people out there who abuse the system, there's couples out there that have a bunch of kids just to get more money. Not sure how it is where your at, but in new York they give like $1,200 a month extra per kid or something like it, but then again maybe it has improved and I didn't know about it.

People get to purchase more food, the stores get to sell more food so it does't rot, and the farmers get to sell their products to the stores. In other words it increases the flow of foods to the public through the stores. I can tell you that 90 dollars a month helps a poor person senior or disabled to make ends meet. It is not supposed to cover their entire food budget

Not to mention about 95% of the time sopmeone actually does get caught and lose benefits they only test positive for cannabis.
