Why the fuck is everybody here comparing EVH to Randy? They were both totally out of this world! Its very easy for all of us to sit here and critique these two axslingers cos we are looking in hindsight and a lot has happened to guitar since 1982 but if we were transported back to EVH and Randy's hey day then we wouldn't be bashing either of them cos we wouldn't have anything to compare it to. a lot the progress on guitar technique in the 80s occurred because of these two.
Randy was incredibly talented but he was quoted as saying that he didn't want to be compared to Eddie - didn't think he was even in the same league. Eddie can play something like 11 different instruments - well; Especially cello. Eddie is amazing, a recluse and quiet. I don't know that you can ever say one guitarist is better than another either. Music is about expression, art and fun and finding a way to express a medium.
eddie was writing shit when he was 16, and that shit was good.....two different styles of playing though, so its pointless to argue...oh, and there debut album was recorded 2 weeks after eddies 23rd, not much difference in age..

That is to say, I hear Fur Elise and I hear shredding, but I don't hear Fur Elise shredding. Its disjointed, its like playing a riff from 2 different songs seperatly and saying you mixed them.

well if u compare them u have to know what they can do. Eddie can play guitar very well as well as the keyboard/piano. plus if u know ur history, he can play drums excellent and he can sing. so eddie is a one man band. i dont see anyone else doing that. so i say eddie is the best.

Why did they cut this from the most recent Live Without a net vid? I remember back in 88 seeing this at my uncles house and this was part of the solo but when I finally bought it again last year, it had been removed. Seems that they could have at LEAST put back in the dvd...

Why the fuck is everybody here comparing EVH to Randy? They were both totally out of this world! Its very easy for all of us to sit here and critique these two axslingers cos we are looking in hindsight and a lot has happened to guitar since 1982 but if we were transported back to EVH and Randy's hey day then we wouldn't be bashing either of them cos we wouldn't have anything to compare it to. a lot the progress on guitar technique in the 80s occurred because of these two.

Randy was incredibly talented but he was quoted as saying that he didn't want to be compared to Eddie - didn't think he was even in the same league. Eddie can play something like 11 different instruments - well; Especially cello. Eddie is amazing, a recluse and quiet. I don't know that you can ever say one guitarist is better than another either. Music is about expression, art and fun and finding a way to express a medium.

Better in what way? Have you ever heard the QR albums. Being they both started, played around S CAL at the same time being the same age, why did Ed get signed first? You think that QR I and II are better than VH I and II? Randy was ready to quit playing rock, he was having a problem with direction. He never wanted to be compared to EVH and EVH ( and gary Moore) was actually 1 of his favorite guitar players up to when he died. Randy wrote 1 album Ed has what 12? Game over is right!!
