  • awesone, eddie doing feur elise on the guitar!

  • Ok dude fur Elise was written by Beethoven not Bach or Mozart any respectable musician knows that

  • Why is people disliking this video? This is AWESOME!

  • Eddie Van Halen gots to be one of the top five rock guitarist of all time, Rolling Stones don't know wtf they talkin bout.

  • what the fuck is up with these trolls disliking this ed kicked ass, can we get this back to where it should be, like the shit outta this everyone!

  • lAS LISTACOMERCIALES LO QUE HACEN ES EXCLUIR A LOS MÚSICOA ANGLOSAJONES, DÓNDE ESTÁ DAVID LEBON, PEDRO AZNAR, HUMO, MARCKOVICHM SANTANA ENTRE OTROS

  • I mean I like Metallica, but Kirk Hammet should not be on that list. And Kurt Cobain was one of the most passionate for lyrics and unique voice, but realistically he was nothing more than decent as a guitarist.

  • Rolling Stone makes pretty good toilet paper....

  • ha ha! beethoven on guitare!

  • How can I translate the title into English?

  • @parafleet Que?

  • @parafleet for elisa

  • @PrimeTheBand Thank you very much.

  • @parafleet Ummm... Eddie Van Halen is the guy's name and Fur Elise is the piece he's playing... o.O' Don't feel bad though ^^

  • I bet if Ed died in 1987 he would have been THE GREATEST guitarrist in the rolling stones magazine...

  • I Wish giuitar players could'nt talk,..jt just fcks everything up,..

  • This is for you slash!

  • That sucked!!!

  • I didnt hear any mozart

  • @zeronova77 That's cause he's playing Beethoven right now. He plays Mozart during his own private time :)

  • Kurt kobain was a horrible guitar player, the guy played like the average 10 year old trying to learn the instrument. How could anyone put him anywhere in the top 100 of anything? And the music was depressing, dull and uninspiring! Grunge was probably the worst time in rock & roll history. The music became talentless and everyone forgot how to play their instruments. Thank god that did not last!

  • @vanh6strings i guess in some defense It had to have been based on the music they managed to come up with from what prior influences they had to base it on . . jimi hendrix wasnt the best but what he came up with in his time compared to what paul gilbert to work from is a substantial difference

  • Good thing Beethoven isn't alive these days, for his own sake.

  • Yeah that Rolling Stone list was always a surefire way to put me in a bad mood.

  • @master09shredder no body pays any attention to rolling stone mag.

rolling stone mag has no creaditbility and hasnt for years! guitar player international

and guitar world have eddie van halen and jimi hendrix the two most important

and influental guitarist of alltime. thats very creaditble!

  • @stratdem don't forget jimmy page

  • @012jack012 Why? Page is forgettable for being a hack. Jimmy Page is the most overhyped, not worthy of his reputation guitarist in the history of rock. Most 16 year olds today can make a mockery of Page's hack playing.

  • @TruthAxe who came up with stairway to heaven or any other hit that made Led Zeppelin the greatest artists of rock of ALL TIME . . sure there are other better guitarists out there . . think of the generation which he came. . i suggest you delete your youtube account and go listen to some country or somthin you worthless pathetic peice of shit

  • You amuse, @octavarriium. Look at how mere words have made you angry. What's most amusing is why do you care? You're not related to Jimmy Page. Yet, in a bizarre showing of mental illness, you stick up for him as if he's your daddy.

Stairway to Heaven is a horrible song. Page shall be a hack, always. Anyone who believes Page is good lacks knowing about music. It's that simple.

  • @TruthAxe exactly what do you know about music? I stick up for Jimmy Page cause Paul Gilbert Steve Vai John Petrucci even EVH and almost every other guitarist were inspired by him, developed their integrity to become better musicians because of him, if you have something to say about any of the artists who looked up to Page id most certainly like to hear it , its assholes like you that piss everyone off by sayin somthing soo fuckin stupid! I garuntee you dont know one person who agrees with you

  • You amuse, @octavarriium. Mere words have made triggered you into rage. Sticking up for false idols to whom you lack any family relationship reveals that you're indoctrinated and thus suffering from mind disorder.

On a side note, anyone who plays guitar knows what a hack Page is. He wrote and recorded maybe five worthy songs, one of which is the Wanton Song, another of which is Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman).

  • @TruthAxe dude youre not the mentalist, shut up.

  • @TruthAxe but youre right, page is a great guitarist. Just dont tell people they amuse... it sounds very condecending

  • @octavarriium quote from EVH on regards to jimmy page "He is terribly sloppy player live" and "he has a horrible live tone"

oage is one of the most over rated guitarists ever.

  • @master09shredder Yeah for real. Well what we know for sure is there is no way real guitarists are judging Rolling Stones' "Guitarist of the Year". Because I know that all of us 'real' guitarists can agree who deserves to be on the list and who doesn't, and where those players deserve to be ranked.

  • @master09shredder rolling stone mag has no creaditbilty hasnt for years. guitar world and guitar player international have edward van halen and jimi hendrix the two most influental guitarist of alltime! this is very creaditble.

  • @master09shredder You mean Eddie was only 70th? Damn right...

  • Rolling stone always sucked.. they are like the anoying kids you see who says metallica is cool because they want to be cool.

  • Amazing !

  • do you have more of this clip?

  • hey MrSomliga John Frucsiante shoudl definetly be higher on that list RHCP FOR THE WIN FAV BAND.. Lol sinse this is a van halen thing. go eddie you rule

  • Magical

  • I wanna learn this so bad!

  • now youre here...again....annoyednall...you slam Eddie...yet you keep coming back to ALL of his videos....sounds like some kind of man crush.....100's of Eddie views,.....100's of slams....youre a real piece of shit....go get some councelling you annoying maggot!!! Eddie is God!

  • LOL...avoidthenoid........creepin out my profile now...got your ip address..thank you.....maggot :) Ed is God!...and everyone....avoid the noid!!!

  • I remember that, that was like right after johhny ramone died, and they put him in the top 10.... WTF!?!?

  • 87 Joan Jett (xaxaxa who voted for her? Her stylist?) 85 Randy Rhoads 82 David Gilmour 70 Eddie Van Halen 49 John McLaughlin 48 Joe Perry (yeah... right...) 45 Frank Zappa 39 Brian May 27 Mark Knopfler 24 The Edge 21 George Harrison 18 John Frusciante (the greatest!!!! xaxa). 3 B.B. King (!!!) I didn't see Mr Steve Vai, Mr Satriani and many more GUITAR players.
  • yeah the Rolling Stone list is garbage I don't Acknowledge it...Kirk Hammet at 11 and Van Halen at 70?....Dave Mustaine and Marty friedmen not on the list....based on a popularity poll or something forget that

  • what i wanna know is how the edge is on their list????!!! dont get me wrong i love u2 but he is not a top guitarist.....guess who wrote the list...Pete townshend

  • @BigDawg69wh2-- yeah Pete Townshend was a mediocre guitarist at best. Good but not amazing. Who is he to say who the best is. Why don't they just interview all of the rock guitarists out there and see who comes up the best.

  • Randy Rhoads 85!? WTF!!! Rolling Stone is such a retarded magazine, they don´t even know what a guitar is!! If they did , Dave Mustaine,Jason Becker and Satriani would be on that list!!!

  • true that,

they had kurt kobain at number six, wtf is up with that?

  • @BoundWithDuctTape they but what was popular not who was best

  • I know that, hence my "wtf"

    haha

  • jajajaja

    you are rith. !

the edge! in the list.. and yngwie? is kirk hammet in the list, but his teacher , joe satriani... NO!!!

    idiots

  • @BoundWithDuctTape usually if someone dies, people like them more

  • @BoundWithDuctTape ya. ed should be in the top two.

  • @BoundWithDuctTape they put him there because he was an innovator and well... he killed himself.

  • @BoundWithDuctTape hey kurt is up in those ranks wtf r u talking about bt i agree eddie should be higher up

  • @BoundWithDuctTape Eddie was all about technique. Kurt was all about feel. It's a toss-up.

  • @BoundWithDuctTape Kurt kobain sucks cock hes not even a good guitarist

  • @BoundWithDuctTape

well, Rolling Stones wrote about the influences and not necessarily about technique. If so they had to take all those flamenco and classical guitar players into the list.

  • @BoundWithDuctTape Holy Crap!!! Wasnt Eddie at like # 70 or something!?!?!

  • @BoundWithDuctTape I believe it was 12, but nevermind (pun intended), it's still too high. I mean, Kurt was a great singer, but his guitar playing is just too simple.

  • yea and eddie would be much higher than 70 considering all he did for the guitar and guitarists. without eddie, 80s guitar would be MUCH MUCH different

  • Well, the video was great.

EVH did a great job as always.

  • Wow what the hell... Rolling Stone puts EVH at 70/100, but Kirk Hammet somehow makes 11? Ridiculous. The list was obviously made by those who listen to mainstream shit.

  • @unclerico86 You have to remember that Rolling Stone is created by "Writers" not "Musicians"...but its is kind of ignorant to think that out of respect they don't put EVH in top 5...maybe their TRYING to be controversial to generate interest?

  • @unclerico86 Uh, Van Halen is pretty much the essence of mainstream.

  • @JoyGrenade that doesnt mean hes not an amazing guitarist

  • @guitarlord247 I never said he wasn't. He's just totally pop-oriented. But there's nothing wrong with that.

  • @JoyGrenade oh,i thought you meant that as an insult

  • @JoyGrenade agreed

  • @unclerico86 kirk hammet stands nothing to EVH. and kurt cobain sucks balls its amazing how he was on there when there was barely any talent from him

  • @unclerico86 who made it at 1?!?!

  • @sonicmann101 Only the person who makes it number one every year... Jimi Hendrix. Now I am not bagging on Jimi because the guy has brought a lot to the guitar scene and inspired many, but come on, I mean it's time to realize there is other talent out there.

  • @unclerico86 okay thats kinda understood. but i think eddie should be 2 or atleast top 10 wtf 70?

  • @unclerico86 >>implying van halen isn't main stream shit

  • @unclerico86 some asshole sitting in a corner cubicle got the job . . his favortie artist was billy ray cyrus or somthin pathetic like that

  • @unclerico86 You are so right! What fools make this crap up? I don't give today's rankings any weight. I always disagree with them;shake my head, cuss, mumble, and then laugh at whoever made these rankings.

  • Don't listen to that shit, critics never know what they're talking about. David Gilmour, EVH, Jimmy Page. 3 Greatest of all-time. Not even arguable. Next would come Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Randy Roads, etc. but those 3 are Gods of music period.

  • @unclerico86 fuck rolling stone

  • What's he playing at the beginning, before Für Elise?

  • don't listen to rolling stone

    THEY DONT KNOW ANYTHING

we all know who's the number 1 guitarist!

  • Anyone know if there's a tab of this?

  • EVH!

    Serious.

  • I want this eddie back!!

  • Dude, he's definitely playing Fur Elise for the majority of the vid, he just throws some random licks on top of it. And its obviously not his intro to Eruption, since the next song he starts playing is "316".

  • Timeless.

  • Eddie wrote 316 for Wolfgang. the numbers are wolfs birthday without the year

  • EDWARD VAN HALEN IS THE ALLTIME KING!

  • i dont get ppl like you saying some guitar player sucks when he has nothing to do with this video...if u knew anything about rhoads you would know he doesnt suck

  • Imagine if Randy was still alive the stuff hed be playing. He'd have some crazy classical solo albums.

  • IF my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. Move on.

  • I also wonder what Randy Rhodes would've done had he lived.

But that has nothing to do with the fact that I laughed my ass off at your aunt/balls/uncle comment. That was just plain hilarious.

  • ?????

  • rafikimetalperu

the song is called 316 off the album

    For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge

  • do you know wat song is in 1:50 to 1:55

  • 316.

  • Randy Rhoads was great, just listen to the Tribute album. Eddie is still great. I don't know who is better and I don't care.

  • Eddie is dude

  • Based on? He should cut down the tapping because he does it too much. But he is great, one of the best and one of the true originals and also a great songwriter, something a lot of shredders aren't.

  • I think how good a musician is boils down to a personal need. If you connect with his music, he's good in your opinion

Some people prefer to hear the technicality in music, but some just go for catchy tune

    Isn't that plain simple?

  • hmm, i don't think he mixed it well with his own guitar style.

That is to say, I hear Fur Elise and I hear shredding, but I don't hear Fur Elise shredding. Its disjointed, its like playing a riff from 2 different songs seperatly and saying you mixed them.

    thats just my opinion

  • I find it amusing for someone to say that Randy is way better than Ed. I find it even more amusing for someone to say that Randy Rhoads blows. Anyone who makes that comment obviously knows little about playing guitar.

  • what, why the fuck do people have to insist on comparing guitar players. YOU CAN NOT COMPARE EMOTIONS AND FEELING. while both classically trained pianists, rhoads was a classical stlye player while eddie was a bluesy rocker. EVH is my favorite but if i met either one of them i'd shit my pants just the same so their.

  • well if u compare them u have to know what they can do. Eddie can play guitar very well as well as the keyboard/piano. plus if u know ur history, he can play drums excellent and he can sing. so eddie is a one man band. i dont see anyone else doing that. so i say eddie is the best.

  • Nuno Bettencourt can do all those things as well. but Eddie is great.

  • HAHHA :D

  • You've never heard Spanish Fly, have you?

  • I'll be honest - I hadn't heard it. Just listed to it. I stand by my initial judgement!

  • ok try little guitars intro next. If that does not change your opinion get your ears checked

  • u wanna hear eddie on accoustic go search spanish fly and then tell me he sucks

  • Why did they cut this from the most recent Live Without a net vid? I remember back in 88 seeing this at my uncles house and this was part of the solo but when I finally bought it again last year, it had been removed. Seems that they could have at LEAST put back in the dvd...

  • THey didnt cut it. THe vid you speak of is of another show. Same tour..different show. Ed always plays what he wants on the fly. It changes from gig to gig.

  • nah, they edited the solo, and changed the songs around, they also cut god enough and some other song out of it

  • Why the fuck is everybody here comparing EVH to Randy? They were both totally out of this world! Its very easy for all of us to sit here and critique these two axslingers cos we are looking in hindsight and a lot has happened to guitar since 1982 but if we were transported back to EVH and Randy's hey day then we wouldn't be bashing either of them cos we wouldn't have anything to compare it to. a lot the progress on guitar technique in the 80s occurred because of these two.

  • was he playing 316? WTF!! i thought he wrote 316 for his son Wolfie

  • This is the same year as live without a net, in which 316 is also in the guitar solo their, he wrote it way before his son was born.

  • Randy Rhoads was good... but he was nowhere near as influential as eddie. He is nowhere near as good as eddie

  • Randy was incredibly talented but he was quoted as saying that he didn't want to be compared to Eddie - didn't think he was even in the same league. Eddie can play something like 11 different instruments - well; Especially cello. Eddie is amazing, a recluse and quiet. I don't know that you can ever say one guitarist is better than another either. Music is about expression, art and fun and finding a way to express a medium.

  • you are a complete dumbass if you think RR could hold EVH's DICK . EVH is the greatest electric guitarist who EVER LIVED.

  • Keep telling yourself that asshole.

Randy rhoads was 22 when he wrote a lot of shit for Ozzy,

If you think evh could write any shit like that when he was 22, you're fucking retarded.

  • eddie was writing shit when he was 16, and that shit was good.....two different styles of playing though, so its pointless to argue...oh, and there debut album was recorded 2 weeks after eddies 23rd, not much difference in age..

  • Ed and Randy are about the same age, Randy put out 2 albums with Quiet Riot, Ed put out VH I and II all around the same time. You tell me which albums are better?

  • Randys albums were better.

He got to write on 1 album with Ozzy,

Which raped the shit out of Ed's albums.

    Game over.

  • Better in what way? Have you ever heard the QR albums. Being they both started, played around S CAL at the same time being the same age, why did Ed get signed first? You think that QR I and II are better than VH I and II? Randy was ready to quit playing rock, he was having a problem with direction. He never wanted to be compared to EVH and EVH ( and gary Moore) was actually 1 of his favorite guitar players up to when he died. Randy wrote 1 album Ed has what 12? Game over is right!!

  • He played his last QR show right before he auditioned for Ozzy.

Compared to his time, RR was the best guitarist around.

Ed just tried all these new techniques and Randy kept it real.

Would you even consider Ed's music to be metal?

I haven't heard any VH songs where you can mosh, bang your head, and throwdown.

    Randy was underrated.

    end of story man.

  • Right, Ed was innovator and Randy kept it real or the same. Give me a Randy song that you can mosh, bang your head and throwdown so I know what you mean and maybe I can point you to VH song. VH is hard rock not metal. It is music theory so who was the best is a matter of opinion. Ed created more music and sold more albums compare DMM and BO with VH I and II. Ed was one of Randy's favorite guitar players if you are a Randy fan maybe you should respect that.

  • I respect it by all means, I just don't agree with it.

You can mosh to Mr. Crowley, Crazy Train, Flying High Again,

    Anything with a good beat.

  • How about meanstreet, Unchained and Sinner Swing all from 1 album Fairwarning. Have you heard them?

  • That's not exactly what i'm talking about,

I mean heavier stuff by VH.

  • Loss of Control, from Women and Children First

  • Randy was good no doubt. But, he good use a MAJOR lesson in guitar tone.

  • randy rhoads fucking BLOWS! rhoads couldnt even shine edward van halens shoes.

who the fuck cares about randy rhoads

  • ....and goes into 316 awesome!!!!

  • Eddie Van Halen is a rock star. He's an alive legend. Randy is dead.

  • and randy is one of the most remembered legends of all time and will never be forgotten. you cant even compare two guitarists. thats not what music is about. theres no two guitarist that are the same.

  • I bet Randy could have made this actually work.

  • Well said bro.

  • Randy was classically trained. I dont know how much classical training Eddie has

  • Eddie and Alex were both Classically trained on the Piano.

  • Your point being...?

  • MY SPOON IS TOO BIG

  • O V E R U S E D!

    Everyone has seen rejected.

    AND NO ONE GIVES A S H I T ! !

  • good call stew. Bobby, be sure and consult maxim magazine before buying the new Black Crowes album. Douche.

  • Edward is a fucking genius. Best guitar player there ever was.

  • top 20 are u high.....jimi changed the way the guitar was played... the forefather... only one other guy since has changed it again... eddie, now i'm not trying to say he's the greatest but he's in the discussion.

  • eddie van halen is the greatest guitar player who has every picked up that fuckin instrument

  • do a search on "10 year old plays eruption", if a 10 year old can play an eddie van halen signature song then how good could he be? Think about it.

  • ok, but i need know too, eddie is the man who created eruption, ok? i can play eruption, but i trained 6 months to win technic

  • thats right.. i can make a cover..

but, i can make a song like that?

  • Sure, why not? Don't mistake popularity with talent. Ever seen Amadeus? Eddie is like Salieri

  • the 10 year old is loppy and comes nowhere near the way Eddie can play it. For a ten year old it is good and it is great he coping from the greatest guitar player ever.. but it is far from how Ed plays it.. and afonsoss is correct.. creation is what makes the artist

  • yeah, but he's 10 and he can play eddie's riffs. And eddie is not the greatest ever. He's the most commercial ever maybe but not the greatest. There are plenty of guitarists that can match his skills. The whole who's the greatest thing is stupid anyway. It's art! You said it he's an artist right? It's not a contest. Check out Fernando Miyata or how about Joe Satriani? Surfing with the alien blows Eddie's doors off. Face it. Joe is better. Much better.

  • Actually, hmm...I was going to say 'nobody is better than anybody' but those punk artists nowadays...they're not really the greatest, so...

Yes, the 10 year old can play Eddie's riffs, but like Lacrimosa said...You can play a cover, anyone can play his music if they put their mind to it and keep going at it, but...Can they create it?

Playing a guitar is different than writing music.

If you understood that, you wouldn't be sitting here asking such dumb questions...

    But, sadly...you are...

  • Just face the facts. Eddie is just that not special - either technically or artistically. Rolling Stone in their list of 100 greatest guitarists has him at #70! Check it out you dweeb!

  • ok one, no one really gives a fuck about the Rolling Stones take on the 100 greatest guitarists. two your a dumbass to not go by your OWN opinion, and three just because some bullshit magazine publishes its own list doesnt make it factual. fucking moron.

  • I have my own opinion and it's validated by the rock media. Rolling Stone is not the last word in the matter but their opinion does matter. And their opinion is that he is a great guitarist jut not the greatest.

  • rollin stone is a joke.

guitar/guitar world/guitar player international have eddie van halen a long with jimi hendrix as the 2 most influental guitarist of alltime there the ones that are credable NOT ROLLING STONE who the hell still reads that shit mag anyways there a joke in the guitar comunity.
