iIMPORTANT QUESTION !!!! i have the same laptop but i play it on 800x600 and everything on low and it still overheats :((( how do you manage to play it without your computer to shut down and overheat?
in this case, it was a simple act of pressing the Caps-Lock key that forced windowed mode when playing Crysis (doesn't do it on, say, Mass Effect 2) - as it writes to the screen displaying "CAPS LOCK IS ON" bottom-right of the desktop just above the clock. Quite annoying!!!
@DeathToTheseWalls it actually gets pretty warm on the right side near the Esc Key. This can be countered by making sure it has plenty of ventilation underneath... that means don't place it on cushioned surfaces like beds, sofas or blankets... moreso hard surfaces like table tops so that a thin layer of air can pass underneath. If you have one of those cooling platforms for notebooks that is even better.
@DeathToTheseWalls and to answer your second question, after say 20-30 minutes of gameplay the fan does get quite loud but as soon as you press pause, within about 10 seconds the fan slows and is quiet again.
lol @ :24, thats exactly what im thinking when playing this game and that happens XD
also i heard that sony severly underclocks the video card to reduce heat, if you put it back to stock clock would you still be able to play this game on decent settings (IE med-high-very high combo)
@partyprash2000 if money is no obstacle, the G50vt will certainly be better. But considering the model I have is only $1,900 AUD... probably a lot less by now... perhaps 1.5k at the moment. The G50vt will go for 4k.
If I were to buy something now, I wouldn't waste my time with a DX10 notebook. DX11 is worth waiting for with tessellation. But if you can wait just get a cheap notebook to tide you over until you can get a dx11 notebook. I think...
Hey I'm planning on buying an FW 46, which is the model above your model. I mean it's the same ATI GPU but it's 1GB whereas yours is 512MB. Do you think it's worth it?
@iampee yes I think it's worth it, because the next generation of games will demand the extra graphics memory. If you plan on keeping this system for more than a year or so then I'd definitely consider getting the 1GB video card if you have the cash.
hey man i getting the same notebook within the week and i was just wondering if you could tell me how it runs and how long the battery life last for ?
Battery life isn't very good - i only get about 2.5 hours - but it's a solid 2.5 hours. it doesn't overestimate which was a problem with my previous notebook. my toshiba would say 2.5 hours, then 30 minutes later it would say 50 minutes.
i like the toshiba pad better but that may be because i'm used to that one. it's getting easier to use each day so i think i'll eventually get used to it.
it's not as slippery as the toshiba pad, so i have to learn not to press as hard on the pad so my finger glides easily...
crysis is still unplayable with a touch pad. i haven't tried to get better using a pad. i only ever used the pad to record this video lol!
If you look at notebookcheck (website) it has stats on both the 9600M GT and HD 4650. They are very close in 3DMark05. They have the 4650 averaging 25fps in Crysis (high detail) whereas the 9600M GT only manages 14fps but I'm not sure why.
Depends on the model number. If it is a 512MB card or more it would then depend on the type of card (like # of stream processors, clock speeds of internal components, etc). I'd say it would. Install Crysis and find out :) it's a free download for the SP demo.

can you upgrade the cpu on this
invitationofchaos 2 years ago
I think you can upgrade to whatever is the highest processor for this socket, but even if you do you'll see very little real world benefit.
