  • the unmuffeled jake brake society. our motto. "we dont make the tunnel, we make it vibrate'

  • Was wondering why a truck was loitering in the "fast" lane until I saw Australia in the comments

  • @ArtStone LOL< i was thinking the exact same thing,

  • OHHHH YAAAAA,last time I came down was about 2 years ago,I saw a volvo largecar with burning brakes, beautiful drive but there are some idiots out there. Ridin down with the jake will make you rethink straight pipes though.

  • What a wonderfull PUUUURRRRR!!!!!!

  • The sun shield kills the glare on the hood at certain angles. nice sounding truck. maybe a 671.

  • @truckpics Im from Adelaide, I know exactly what you mean.... I love that sound...especially in those tunnels ox

  • acually the jake brak puches down on the valves and thus cousing the engine to slow down.

  • Actually it was very loud, remember i was in truck behind and our exhaust brakes did not work, had to use trailer brakes to slow us down :-( but yeah sound is all the kenworth b-double out front.

  • nice love that tunnel

BostonTrucker if u know anything about that hill trucks ar on the jake all the way to the bottom ur listening to the truck infront u only hear the one his in when there out of the tunnel

    ^

  • he would have had his jake on all the way through there otherwise he would be out of control. I do that hill through that tunnel all the time and it is steeper than it looks.

  • Awesome sound ! Just pure jakepower 5* for the vid!

  • When you finish playing with your stick and you stop what do you do? JAKE OFF!! :)(couldn't resist.:))

  • I Jake Off More then i Jake on LOL =)

  • MACKS - REAL TRUCKS!!

  • Jake Brakes are engine retarders that slow down the truck in tandem or independant of the wheel brakes. It makes a very distinctive

sound - like a loud fart

as I recall, there a 2 3 4 and 6 cyl Jake brakes which can be selected according to the truck weight/grade of descent - when you hear a trucker using the Jake Brake on flat level roads, in town especially near the Sheriff or Highway patrol station, it is a common sign that the driver is either a JB Hunt or Schnieder veteran.

  • In case I confused anyone:

    I said:

    "as I recall, 2 3 4 and 6 cyl Jake brakes..."

I need to clarify - there are 2 3 4 & 6 STAGE Jake Brakes - That is, they can be selected in variations of braking effort 2= stage light effort, 3= medium light effort, 4= medium effort and six full effort.

    Further clarification concerning Schnieder:

Attn Schnieder Driver: The pumpkin orange paint on your truck is for the motoring public' safety purposes only and should not be used for bubble bath soap.

  • no actualy the engine brake has three settings 2 cyl, 4 cyl, and 6cyl. the cummins isx with hte right comp. settins can do any from 1cyl to 6cyl

  • what actually is ' jake brake '..????....plz inform me

  • its a motor break, its used in order to stop the truck fast when having a heavy load

  • a jake brake is a form of engine brake what it does is releses the copression in the diesel gngine when its at its higest point. it dont allow the injectors to open so therefor there is no power stroke while its on and the compression slows the vehicle down and in turn the compression going out the exhaust spools the turbo and makes it build boost and that in turn pushes more air into the cyl making it slow the vehicle faster

  • A jake brake is a device that makes a lot of noise and helps guys who have doubts about their sexual orientation feel like real men.

  • There would be a lot more dead haulers out there if it wasn't for this device.

  • eather u r a nerd or have no balls. trucks is what men like u probably have a gay ass toyota pries, that the altimate fag wagon.

  • i am glad you told us that idid not know what the jakes are for, far as using them on falt ground i never turn mine off when i am loaded 80000 with raw milk need all the help i can get GOOD BUDDIE

  • fnx lol

  • Anytime.

  • whys does it mean they are a vet. if the use the jakes?

  • Well, according to popular opinion, JB Hunt and Schnieder are generally not considered veterans but Rookies. Not the tv show, of course but namely, drivers who have yet to prove themselves talented enough drive trucks equipped with Jake Brakes. One time a excited Schnieder driver was taking a road test in a parking stall just throttling and jake braking the engine in neutral while sitting still. The company chose not to hire him due to fears of excessive idle time.

  • what is a jake break and wot dose it do

  • there's my answer, williamheadwoods.

  • why is it so long? there's no reason for it to be so damn long.

  • I haul to Norfolk, Va all the time and I love poppin' the jake in the tunnels.

  • lol if thats america there braking law big time driving in that line especially with 3 lanes.

  • It's Australia

  • this sounds stupid as hell, but what's jake brakeing?

  • Disregard that comment, I just googled it, my bad haha

  • fire trucks arriving

  • LoL, when you hear that in philly you know whats coming, Help!! Sometimes the Jake Brake is louder than the siren!!!!!

  • sounds even better out side the tunnel like they got louder

  • Sounds like an 8V92....

  • what ever it is, it's ugly

  • definatly a mack you can see the puppy, and the mirror

  • looks like a mack. i think i see the bulldog on the front behind the bug deflector

  • its a kenworth m8

  • sorry i didnt pay attention to the "about this video" haha

  • haha, yer otherwise i wouldnt know either mate ;)

  • I love doing that.

  • If you wanna hear real jake brake sounds go back to New Zealand to the logging Trucks.

  • nice sound!

  • with a telstra hut come down it at 80 kph going up emty at 95 kph lol nice video oh and we in a real truck kenworth k104 lol

  • i been the other way with dad 4 meters wide 3.4 high with a telstra hut come down it at 80 kph going up emty at 95 kph lol nice video oh and we in a real truck kenworth k104 lol

  • love that sound

  • I dont get it. Are you still able to accelerate while having the jake brake on? It sure did sound like it. I dont know. I work at a bowling alley. Not on trucks. =]..A

    Answers would be nice.

  • You can accelerate with the jake on but it wont work until you release the gas pedal. when you accelerate its off and when you take your foot off the gas the jake brake kicks in. I hope i expained that right.

  • Thanks! That did help! =]

  • yeah you did!

  • @truckpics go to any area where theres a intersection and alot of trucks (off ramps) and just sit for 5 mins, watch the truck jake to the corner, go around and when he's upshifting you'll here the jake kick in when he releases the gas. we left the jake on all the time in our ol mack dump truck.

  • @truckpics Simpler way of explaining it, When you give it gas, the brake kicks off. When you let off the gas, the brake kicks in.

  • Yes you are able to accelerate while the jake brakes are on

  • Bollocks.

  • well a how it works is a jake break slows you down you turn it on while your accelerating and when you let off the pedal thats when you hear the lowd sound but when you shift up if you dont use the clutch you have to turn the jake off cuz you get a lowd berb sound and lose rpms but if you use the clutch it dont really matter manly most truckers shift without the clutch

  • what i hate now, is that most of the new trucks now are starting to be automatic, i thought the whole joy of being a trucker was riding on the highway shifting gears! they are ruining it. plus its easier to haul heavy loads with a manual isnt it?

  • Most automatics I've seen in heavy trucks are usually in fleet services as opposed to a private trucker. The Allison 10-speed automatic seems to be the answer to the problem of busting differentials when downshifting. However some company just came out with the "Smart" transmission; no shift lever nor clutch pedal, but works like a stick.

  • really? are they in just a certain truck or are they going to put them in all trucks?

  • Nah just an option.

  • ah thats cool.

  • eaton auto shift, should be available in any truck line that offers eaton trannies.

  • The Eaton-Fuller Auto-Shift still has the clutch pedal for taking off and stopping only. The Eaton-Fuller Ultra-Shift has no clutch pedal at all. The Auto-Shift come in 10 or 18 speed and the Ultra-Shift is a 10 speed. ZF-Meritor also has a version of the Auto-Shift that is a 12 speed.

  • Yeah man doing a longhaul with auto tranny sucks. Manual is better in traffic too. From my perspective at least.

  • Nothing wrong with that tunnel. Just got ta make sure you got the right gear at the top and easy down.

  • nice vid.

  • i know ive been through there a few times and theres nothing like the sound of a cummins under jakes

  • damn those brakes wpould be glowin by the time u reach the bottom of the crafers

  • That is why he is using the JAKE BRAKE........... So he doesnt cook the wheel brakes...... Hmmm.....

  • if you read earlier comments you will see that the mack jakes werent working so using the service brakes.

  • ah i love that sound ... and in a tunnel... sweet

  • it is a engine brake commonly known as a jake brake because most engine brakes are made by Jacobs It helps slow a truck down & also helps redue Brake wear on your drives

  • funny lookin kenworth! since when do they put the bulldog on a kenworth mate!

  • truck in front was Jake Braking, sorry. Not me behind in the mack CLR. Our jake brake didnt work and was using trailer bakes to slow down. Not safe but it was all we could do LOL.

  • what is a jake brake???

  • that tunnel is an accident waiting to happen

  • Ive been through that tunnel thousands of times and never had a problem..... why is it an accident waiting to happen?
