For my money, art's only art if it illicits a positive response from the person who sees it. I don't mean it has to be 'nice', but to be art it has to mean something to someone other than the artist, otherwise what's the point in doing it? Tagging is vandalism, proper graffitti that makes a point is art, in my opinion. Good video, by the way.

Art is applying a medium to a canvanas/surface. Something that looks "preety" and "nice" can be called art, in the same way a tag can be called art.just because something doesn't look appealing to you doesn't mean its not art.

this is something we can discuss for ages, although through my personal experience, stencils are tougher than they seem, in my case i draw everything from scratch then i cut it out. The kids who try to act cool and have no artistic talent or knowledge of the graff world, are what gives us a bad name. I try to work in all forms of graffiti, and sometimes i clean up and entire wall for one piece or somthing like it. So yeah the city is canvas, that doesnt mean we need to be irresponsible with it.

I do large graffiti pieces that I plan all school week and do on the weekend and its a fullfilling, artistic and almost spiritual talent that I love to expand. So isnt this the definition of art. You can bash the tag but dont bash the tagger, most taggers have the ability to make beutifull art but they never apply themselves.

The question (to me) isn't whether graffiti is art or not: The question is whether it is art so insufferably atrocious that the vandalism should be prohibited and/or punished?
