So does the sound for the virtual part come from the actual piano? Is this something that could also be done with a regular piano and some extra equipment? What I'm a little confused by is that this instrument came up when I googled "most technologically advanced instrument." Maybe I'm underestimating the technology at work here?
OMG! I'm utterly impressed. That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my LIFE (but i'm only a pianist!). Now I just have to find-out HOW YOU DO THAT! I'm only 31, but have the computer skills of an octogenarian. Anyway, way to go Mario!
@trinaVIPiano Hi Trina. It's all the magic of the Yamaha Disklavier Mark IV Pro Grand Piano. The video sync technology is used extensively in the audition process for the Minnesota International Piano e-competition. I just decided to use that technology to play a duet with myself! If you're in the NYC area, you should check out the Yamaha Artist Services Piano Salon on Fifth Ave and E. 54th Street. They have concerts including some by Lisa Yui of Manhattan School of Music using the Disklavier.
@mariocast So very much appreciated! This information is invaluable- and so timely. I've had ideas like that from childhood, for example trying to 'tape' myself playing secundo & play along (primo) with the 'tape recorder'! When 'MIDI' came along, it confused the crap outta me. Long story short, I'm ready to dive-in. May never be financially ready for the Discklavier! But def going to the city this weekend!
Love this. I did a very similar concept with this same piece. I programmed the primo part into the built-in sequencer of a digital piano and would play it back while playing the secondo part with it. You have to do what you have to do if you cannot get yourself a duet partner.
I used to play this Duet with my mother's lady friend, who played piano! I love this piece!!!! Super idea!!!! I have a Yamaha Clavinova, and could use this concept to play with my recordings on Duets.
I loved this video!!!!!
Victor Borga was a reminder of what he would do......Musicians have to have a sense of humor, amidst the natural gift of music!!!
Cleaver use of technology for entertainment. I thought your performance was very successful and it got quite a good reaction from the audience. Well done!
god i suck compared 2 this lollll

I enjoyed this creative way of playing a four hand piece by one person. I used to play this duet with my sister.

The pianist played well, apart from the trained seals or canned laughter.
