i want that sound!!!watched a phiew of you vids :p and i once had that sound while recording in a studio with cubase cant get it at home but neeeddd it does it cost a lot of money to gey the equipment for that sound cheers!
There is something I really don't get, you do not recommend Marshalls on your site, but you use the 5210 in a lot of your videos, not that it doesn't sound brilliant. It's just contradicting your site.
As I haven't mentioned Marshall I'm not contradicting either :) I've had this Marshall since I was 10-12 years and it's an OK amp for playing at home but I'd never bring it to a gig. The 5210 was a short run of JCM800 transistor combo amps Marshall had in the early 80s. The gain channel sounds dead on a RAT while the clean sounds a bit warmer than the current Marshalls. I've replaced it with a Laney Cub12 stack. Review coming soon :)
@BjornRiis actually you do mention Marshall. quote: "Personally I think that Marshall amps in general aren’t ideal for David’s tones." But no matter, I was still wrong. Because you do mention your 5210 and also JCM 800, so I apparently wasn't paying enough attention when I read it. Anyway, I appreciate your reply. Rock on.
It all comes down to personal taste anyway :) If you feel that a Marshall and a Les Paul gives you the best Gilmour tones then go for it. All I do is to share my recommendations and although some older Marshall (Plexi, older JCMs etc) are quite good I generally prefer something else for my Gilmour tones.
My favorite lead work of DG's is on this album. The aggression that cropped up in Animals is there, the wistfulness of his Wall-era stuff like Mother or the first CN solo, and of course the solid blues base that was there all along. Beautiful guitar playing. And you do an excellent job of emulating it.

Dude since I discovered your vids just recently on here I no longer have to trudge through footage to catch how Gilmour plays. Cheers for letting me steal it all straight from you. A lesser person could have charged for online lessons. I think Gilmour put his frustration at how the Floyd were going into his playing on the final cut. Your Floyd act should tour the uk. Maybe re trace their footsteps and play places like the Usher hall in Edinburgh. Wonder if gilmours heard of you yet?
Funny how th Final Cut gave rise to a couple of his most sublime moments - makes you wonder what he would have done if he had been enjoying himself...
Bjorn, you are a star my friend. Watching you play guitar is beautiful.
yea but you def want to keep your confidentiality these days on the internet, scams and identity theft can fuck you over for life, but i see what ur asying
The pedals are only a small part of his tone. Please check out the buyer's gear guide on my site and send me an e-mail if you have any questions. I'll try to help...
could you give me your mistress setings please? this pedal is very difficult to adjust, I think lol... still struggling to find the Wall tour sound lol
0:19 to 0:23 should have a second lead part overlayed.
this is not a criticism. you sound brilliant, you have included all the parts i would expect from the record like wammy drop at 0:27, Just great. if you were in a tribute band they would have made a good choice for there gilmour part
Awesome, as usual Bjorn. The Final Cut is one of my favorite albums, and has some of my favorite Gilmour solos, including this one. The Final Cut has some of his most moving solos he has ever done. I don't think he did anything quite like this after. Too bad this track did not make it on The Wall album.
Also, are you using both the dry and wet outputs for the flanger? I've been trying to get The Wall flanger sound with my Deluxe Electric Mistress for a long time now, the closest coming when I mixed the two signals. Unfortunately, the knob doesn't start working until I'm almost at 9:00. I think it's the result of shoddy workmanship.
Electric Mistress settings - colour 10:00, range "off" and rate 10:00 (o'clock). I use only the wet output. Place the pedal after any distortions and overdrives and in front of the delays.
Yeah... David and Mason pretty much went in did their parts and left. I doubt there was much hugging and encouraging words in the studio LOL! Final Cut is kind of Amused to Death's the little brother... I must say that I love both albums tho. Imagine what Amused would have sounded like with David!
i make you right there - because im a big fan of AtD and the division bell - if the qualities of both albums were in one it would be the ultimate floyd album
God I love this tune one of David's top three solo's in my opinion. Beautifully played Bjorn, learnt it myself a few months ago, simple but really needs a lot of feeling in the playing. You have nailed it as per usual! Keep posting man!
Thanks! This is definitely one of my favourite solos by David. You can really hear the troubles within the band, all the frustration and anger in this one... there's so much tension and feelings.
I really like your creamy sound! How did you set the EHX mistress for this solo? Was it set like your website says? thanks for the info

Well, I think David's playing on that album is some of his most soulful... His pouring his frustration and anger into his solos. Love that album...
