in rhythmic gymnastics we use hoops that are fairly heavy so i just got my hoop and it hurts xD but im still trying its really frustrating i cant do it :(
When I started with this trick, I had exactly the same problem. You just have to try it again and again, until your body knows automatically what to do. ;)

I see you re doing this with a plastic hoop - is it possible to do this with one of the stripey heavier hoops, which is what i have?

Of course it's possible. But you may bruise your feet, after I learned this trick they where bloody and blue, a heavier hoop might hurt even more.

when I try kicking the hoop up,it starts to tilt on an angle and won't rise any further.Any tips for keeping it straight?

Yes, I've tried and tried, and as Eva said, the time passes and your body get used to it, it knows what to do automatically. It's amazing!
