He could sightread but not very well. He learned by ear and memorized in general.

Thanks so much for posting this. You just know that somewhere in heaven, Shawn Lane and Bach are hanging out. (And playing air-hockey.) (No, that was Bach and Hendrix. Anyway.) But just thanks, man. For those of us who never had the privilege of hearing him live, your Lane videos have let us know what we missed out on.

Shawn was a huge fan of Bach, and had a lot of it in his head. Shawn played some of the Goldberg variations a number of times live. Shawn and Jonas were planning on recording an album of Bach's Goldberg variations. Shame they never got that recorded and released.

OMG!!! I have most of Shawn's records and I've always thought that he was one of the most gifted musicians ever - but after this clip, WOOOOW!!! I've never seen this before and it just blew me away!!! He was waaay to good for this world!!!
Thank you god, thank you JS Bach and thank you Shawn for this wonderful music.
