OK well not sure if this is good news or not but Neil Burger is now taking on the task of writing/directing Uncharted. The guy seems unproven as a director but maybe this could be a breakout franchise as long as he takes the fans concerns into account. He really needs to stick to the source material and DO NOT USE WAHLBERG OR FILLION. I think Wes Bentley or Matt Bomer would be a great choice.
@DahcipheR Wes Bentley is a really great choice . The guy has the same features as Drake and is only 33 which is within the age range of the character.
(part 3) That being said, I'm highly confident that Sony will pull the right strings, and hire the right people. Honestly, I was excited about David O'Russell taking up the directors chair, primarily because of his seasoned resume, and I thought he would do this game-movie justice...until he revealed his intentions for the film. Now, they've gotta pick someone who knows the game, and how it should properly be translated. Sorry this took so much room, but I love discussing topics like these.
EVERYONE, GREAT NEWS TODAY!: David O'Russell will no longer be directing the new Uncharted movie because of "creative differences" he had between the studio. This also means Mark Wahlberg is no longer playing the role of Nathan Drake.
Good news, but who do you think could take the directors chair? My money is on someone not quite mainstream yet, but still delivers quality action/story. (ex. Duncan Jones) I'm also hoping for either Bradley Cooper, Nathan Fillion, or Joe Flanigan for Drake.
@AgentCarver Duncan Jones could do a good job but we need a director who knows the game and has no other intentions of his own like O.Russell did. This is the one game that doesn't need to be changed for the screen and should be a true transfer from game to screen. As far as the actor for Drake goes they need to go younger than those guys. Drake has to be early 30's at the most especially since this could end up being a huge franchise with at least 2 sequels which would take about 8-10 years.
@OGdbleE Sorry I haven't replied but your right, I think they should pick someone younger for Drake, but at the same time, he's going to be the main star of the show, and the main attraction, so I think they should be wise and pick someone capable of not only portraying Drake's personality, but also holding the film together, not quite on his own, but enough to be significant. As for director, I think you made a good suggestion with Edgar Wright awhile back, and if not....
(part 2) ....Edgar Wrights involvement with the upcoming Tin Tin movie could be a consideration, and the studio should hire him if he's not too busy doing something else, like that proposed Ant-Man movie. If not him, they should go with a director that is experienced with action, such as Joe Carnahan, well, maybe, not sure about that. :P Otherwise, I really can't be sure who they might hire. Seems Sony is making out-of-the-blue decisions when it comes to this film so far.
@AgentCarver All of those actors would be either in their late 40's or early 50's by then. The best bet would be to scour all young acting talent who fit the look and personality of Nathan Drake. Fillion would have been great if he was younger but he's just too old now. I'm sure there's someone who can play this part perfectly and hopefully they choose someone relatively unknown who could be launched into stardom which will save money on salary and bullshit behind the scenes.
I have little hope for the real movie coming soon myself, but you can't disregard the fact that they at least hired an academy-award/oscar-nominated director (David O'Russell) to do the job. Though from some of the early things I've seen about his attitude regarding the movie (Blatantly ignoring Nathan Fillion as a casting choice/ creating a family-oriented storyline), I'm not really too sure about the director himself either. Time will tell...
@AgentCarver Three6mafia are oscar winners. If you look at O.Russells' IMDB he really shouldn't be involved in the movie at all. I would assume Mark Wahlberg knew about the game and wanted to do it but also wanted a director he likes working with and that is O. Russell. I would rather see someone who fits the role along with a director like Edgar Wright and leave the story alone.
@MrUnchartedguy Yeah so far all the news is awful. The casting and the director should be changed. You need someone who actually gives a damn about the story and the characters. The worst part is casting a 40 year old midget to play Drake.
Today is a sad day for all UNCHARTED fans. Marky Mark has been cast as Drake. This movie will suck with him as Drake and I hope no one pays to see it. They have no respect for the fans or the material and the only control we have is to make sure they lose money as a result. Boycott this piece of shit movie.
I'm a HUGE Max Payne fan, and I'm going to say this, that movie wasn't as bad as people say. They got it about half right. Not a good movie, but not as bad as people say. I did download it tho, so I didn't pay to see it, so that may also count.
My point being, you have to at least wait for a trailer before you call it shit.
@Isiah61 No I don't and besides that you're not a HUGE Payne fan because if you were you would realize what a great 2 movies they could have made from MP 1 and 2. The casting was AWFUL and not including Vlad which set up the second game was idiotic. I still gave that movie the benefit of the doubt and thought the trailer looked good but I was right then and the movie sucked and shit on the game. I am done giving these people any of my money so they can benefit from the popularity of the game.
@OGdbleE It's never going to be exactly like the game. Never. Just like comic book movies aren't exactly the same. The exceptions I assume some of you have must be high. Just go in think this is going to be someone's project based on a game/comic that you liked, and hoped to be entertain. Don't expect oscar worthy shity. And how can you tell me if I'm a huge fan or not? Now that I think about you're already bias, saying its whack without it being started. You're just hating.
@Isiah61 These aren't old games with a loose story wrapped around game play like back in the day. These games are more like great movies with game play in them and can easily be adapted to the screen with little change. The reason they haven't had a great adaptation is because Hollywood doesn't even look at the game they look at the sales and the popularity and then just allow someone to make a movie with that name and character.
@OGdbleE i don't expect much from a video game based movie so. I expect to see a movie as funny and action packed as the game. Everything else I don,t really care, because the game itself is king of a movie with amazing voice acting and animations. The "movie" will just be another story for uncharted, but without parts where you take control of the character..
@0Blaire0 Thats cool with me because I would rather they not make one rather than ruining such an amazing story/game with a sub par movie like they did with Max Payne.
@reddevil9312 Whoever makes it I just hope they don't mess it up. I really think this could be a big franchise on the scale of Indiana Jones but they need to do it right and cast the right people.
Nathan fillian as Drake is a good casting choice. Dude needs to drop some weight thou, he got pretty big over the last 6 years.
