Excellent approach and landing. We are normally told not to slip the Cessnas with the flaps out because of a pitch down, but no problem here. Just "fly the plane".
@sablatnic Why wouldn't you be slipping with the flaps down? Slipping is meant to increase your descent rate without increasing airspeed, same as the flaps. If you're high in your approach to where you need to slip and you're not already at full flaps, you probably should have already put in flaps...
@stupidonduty Actually the standard procedure is to put the low wing into the crosswind, if there is one. Also a good idea to ensure sufficient rudder authority that the fuselage can be maintained parallel to the runway with the wing low. (I don't remember the last time I landed without a slip. Flying taildraggers from the back seat will do it to ya! ;-) But if you're slipping for the purposes of dumping altitude, as here, and there's no appreciable x-wind then it doesn't matter.
there was obviously crosswind in your case where you follow the steep slope of the hill seen you slide only one side. I have learned the procedure by headwind when being too high in final. Therefore it was "left foot, stick right" of course but also vice versa to keep alignment. Thanks anyway for your concern. Kind regards,
@Flightkid9 Will you please tell me how exactly a 182 carries 7 occupants? And where are you going to find UAVs with cameras on them in most third-world countries?
I assume the plane went down during cruise? That would suggest his death wasn't the result of 'taking chances'. The engine does sound a bit ragged here, but I know nothing about that powerplant.
This plane went missing with 7 occupants in February 2009. All occupants are presumed dead including Bob Norton, the pilot shown in the video. The plane has still not been found with efforts to find it continuing today using amateur made and operated UAV's.
I don't take anything from this guy and this landing. Venzuala, heat, humidity, that close to trees...your lift just starts to fade away....nice landing
The trees are at the exact angle of the glide path. I'm sure this pilot used his propeller to mow them to that shape to use it as his glide slope indicator.
Heck, not much of a slip; he's still looking out the front window! ;) Full flap slips are not recommended in most small Cessnas, however, if you are prepared for an elevator stall (sudden nose pitch down), they can be an option for radial runways.
I think he retracted them by the time he came close to the camera... you can see them slightly extended still (and retracting) as he rolls by. Hard to spot, but if I'm not mistaken you can see them fully extended at around 0:24 (best view I could find).
Flaps _are_ on during landing and retracted immediately after touchdown. (look closely). as the plane goes by the camera you can see the flaps raising to their final position. Raising the flaps on touch-down reduces lift/ increases stall and keeps the plane on the ground on roll-out.
The German state uses his secret service BND to systematically rape, torture and murder. My brother Markus Bott had been tortured during five and a half years. I recorded more than 450 hours on video which ended in the legal system. The BND continued under cover of the legal sytem to torture my brother for one and a half years. My brother was assassinated on 11.7.09 because of our homepage linked on my chanel. Whatever lie german snitchers tell you: Germany is the worst torture state on earth.
I have a desire to do bush flying in countries where people need help. How do I get involved? Who do I need to contact, and what additional ratings beyong the PPL would I need?
@Gerardsp CPL. PPL won't do anything for you as it's suggested "PRIVATE". Do CPL with a night VFR and a 200 series (206, 210) rating, you will need CSU/RG but do it on something cheaper like a P28R. Don't send resumes get in country and don't have less then 200hrs.

@Nununda Because lift kits comes at the price of range (more drag, less speed put simply) and when your flying to dirt strips with no fuel reserves, ecenomy becomes more important. I am so sorry to hear about the missing pilot and its passengers... It is such a shame if other people have hijacked it.... I am very sorry and will pray for Bob and the rest... Is there any news my friend?
@907AlphaKilo look close at the inner wings beetween 0:15 and 0:25 ... hard to see, but they are actually out. He just retracted them after touch down to decrease the lift and gain more traction to the wheels.

Not being critical - this is a well executed, high skill manoeuvre - but I think he either had a flap failure or was doing it for practice. Flapless short-field approaches are not normal ops in a C206. The same approach angle can be achieved with 40deg flap.
A joy to watch - a skilled pilot doing his stuff. Low-time pilots, please don't try this technique into a short field without specific training.

Not a stupid question at all! When you land with a slip, you kick in rudder either left or right to make the nose of the airplane point in a slightly different direction than the flight path. This exposes the side of the aircraft to the wind, it then creates more drag. This technique decreases forward airspeed and increases the decent rate, making it very useful to get the aircraft in to short fields or down a slope on a high approach.
That's not a particularly steep slip, but it could be a safe slip for the plane, which would mean the pilot is wise enough to know the limitations of either his skills and/or the aircraft's ability. Hey, any landing in the jungle (or anywhere) without breaking anything is a good landing.

'scuse the stupid question but what does it mean to "land with a slip"? I mean... what is that 'slip'?
DifferentFur 1 year ago
Not a stupid question at all! When you land with a slip, you kick in rudder either left or right to make the nose of the airplane point in a slightly different direction than the flight path. This exposes the side of the aircraft to the wind, it then creates more drag. This technique decreases forward airspeed and increases the decent rate, making it very useful to get the aircraft in to short fields or down a slope on a high approach.
