Yeah, Shock Waves was a pretty decent well-made modestly-budgeted ( but not totaly grade Z ) horror film, which did kinda influence a new strain of cinematic ghoulies ( nazi AND sub-aquatic too ), much like Night of the Living Dead had ( in its case flesh eating zombies ).
Besides Shock Waves and this Zombie Lake here, there are actualy three other movies, which I'm aware of, with the zombie/nazi theme, they'r Oasis of the Dead, Zombie Brigade and Night of the Zombies ( the American one with Jammie Gilles ),.. and Lucio Fulci's Zombie Two featured an under-water ghoul ( Shock Waves also had THAT first, if Im not mistaken ).
The Film was shot in just 3 Days (!) by Jean Rollin (denying it) after Jess Franco REFUSED (!) to do it by not showing up on set. So it' s not a Jess Franco Film as some DVD Covers say. But it' s a Eurociné Production, the little girl is played by Producer Daniel Lesoeur' s daughter Anouska (cheaper this way) who's also been in the opening sequence of Franco' s "Cannibals".
Great Review of GREAT MOVIE!~ ok, well I should say CLASSIC movie.. I had forgotten that Jess Franco had a cred on this.. which most likely explains Howard Vernon popping up in this thing. And yea.. that time warp BS always confused the fuck out of me as a kid.. it was like taking a xanax before watching this thing everytime
Shock Waves had something of a concept and an explanation for the "zombies",..they were suposed to be geneticaly engineered and it was based on the actual secret occult investigations and medical experiments of the Reich. This movie had no such concept or explanation to it.
Also, that scene with the girl swiming takes place in daylight yet in the underwater shots theres no sunlight from above.
that's like the remake of halloween. the lead girl is a baby in 1978, when the film starts. cut to today and she's in high school. she should b 30 for god's sake!
You really ARE a cinema snob. I think I ♥ you.
Btw. Did you notice how that green zombie still had perfectly good blonde hair. I couldn't help but chuckle. And if the extras are trying their best to keep from laughing their heads off, then, well, you know it's a piece of shit.
Fuck me! I've seen zombie lake and know very well of it's atrocity to art -hehe! But you say it isn't even the worst Zombie flick ever? I find it almost impossible to beleive that anything can be as bad as ZL, so whats the joe d'amateo one thats worse?
Zombie lake is a very bad movie. It has the right elements to be one of the ''so bad its great'' movies. The problem is that its to boring. Otherwis it would've been great.
This movie can be summed up in the words of Joel, Crow, and Tom Servo from "Mystery Science Theater 3000". Paraphrasing their review of "Attack Of The The Eye Creatures", "The director, producer, actors and all involved in this film JUST DIDN'T CARE!"
I actually found Zombie Lake to be quite enjoyable in a "so bad its good" kinda way.
But if you think Zombie Lake was the worst of the Nazi-Zombie films, you should really checkout Jess Franco's "Oasis of the Zombies", now THAT was far FAR worse (and better still there also a completely differant version of that film in Spain using differant extras).
Jesus Christ, Zombie Lake is truly a hellish experience. I don't know if I believe you when you say that it isn't the worst zombie movie you've ever seen.
Actually, the two films in the bunker were a version of Hound of the Baskervilles and The Man Who Was Sherlock Holmes. No idea about Tojo's film viewing list.
I bought this film about 2 years ago for £2:50 and I felt cheated out of £2.49.

well if i recall, it looked very modern. 17 into 1978 would be the year 1995. it didn't look like 1995 to me.
