I was on track for 6 of Tuscan Evening's 8 graded stakes wins. She won from 6.5 furlongs to 10 furlongs, was the 10' Santa Anita horse of the meet, and even went back to Chicago to beat a stellar field in the Modesty. I was truly saddened to learn of her death. The filly and mare turf division in California has still not recovered from the loss of the little fighter.
What Tuscan Evening was is a 3yr.old filly that was just coming into her own in Ireland when she ran 2nd in 2008 Irish 1000 Guineas. Then she came to America. Where she flourished into one of the best race-mares in America. 6 straight graded stakes wins. Winning 7of her last 8 races. Her lone loss. A 2nd place finish to the great mare Ventura in the Matriarch Stakes back in November. Tuscan Evening was a fantastic race-mare that American racing is going to sorely miss.
