  • and i got here how...

  • God DAMN!!!

  • How does being unable to walk make you a zombie? Wouldn't this be: "Paralyzed cockroach cured by antidote?" Overdramatizing is fun but I think they're taking it a step too far here.

  • @mew9934234 It's interesting though that it's not actually paralyzed, it just can't initiate movement. This is also the case in humans with severe Parkinson's: they can catch a ball if you throw it to them, but they can't hand it back to you. That's what's zombielike about the condition.

Understanding why brains (of both humans and cockroaches) are wired up that way could lead to considerable advances in neuroscience (and potentially bring about the zombie apocalypse).

  • We do need to be prepared with an antidote for when the human zombie pandemic strikes.

  • Yet another reason why I'm glad I'm not a cockroach.

  • четко могёт муравей

  • i begins...21 december u say? lets buy some guns

  • Those pesky humans just can't stop interfering. Just when we found out how to make zombie cockroaches, they come out with an antidote. OK, then... We shall free the chickens and the cattle from human enslavement.

  • Roaches don't need our help, they do just fine. spend money on better things.

  • hey guys, all you have to do is take a gun to your head, pull the trigger

    overpopulation, solved.

see you on the other side. LOL

  • @daspense OH MY GOD, OMG, OH EM GEE, YOU'RE SO SMART. Someone get this guy a Ph.D and the nobel prize! :D

  • What a very misrepresenting title.

This is just a chemical inhibiting the binding of another chemical by either bonding with it, or binding to its binding sites.

  • Rape

  • if i was that queen wasp id be pissed at the dr's..."F.M.L.!"

  • Well bring some of them wasp to America so they can kill some of these roaches!

  • Why are the people in these comments so terrible? 'HURR DURR I HATE COCKROACHES! LEARNING ABOUT BRAIN CHEMICALS? LOL NOPE DON'T SEE HOW IT HELPS ANYONE URGH IT'S AN ICKY BUG EWWWWWWW I DON'T LIKE IT WE SHOULD KILL ALL OF THEM EVERRR'

God damn, I feel like I'm losing brain cells reading any of it. Gotta move on to another video so I won't need a brain shot to revive ME.

  • Can somebody please educate me on how the fuck this research helps humanity in any way, shape or form? Unless we are somehow turned into zombies.

  • @edwinsandovala it will help in the future when we need something like this. (my cousin is a math professor and he told me all about how finding things out will help later answer questions never been answered [because he has done several] )

  • @edwinsandovala I think the chemical the wasp has is something the scientist are looking at with regards to

    Alzheimer's disease

  • @edwinsandovala Its pretty safe to assume that the next great drug to treat alzheimers, parkinsons, huntingtons, etc. will have gone through these kinds of trials. How do you think new medicines are invented? Most of the developments that have helped humanity the most come from lines of investigation people criticised as pointless. For example, Lord Kelvin is said to have called electricity 'useless'.

  • So are wasps natural exterminators against cockroaches?

  • shit im fucking itchy

  • Because we all need an extra cockroach.

  • Now i know were t5hey got the idea for alien vs predator

  • Why the hell would you revive a cockroach when everyone hates those things?! Ugh. I hate roaches!

  • JESUS CHRIST SEEING THAT ROACH MOVE I FELT SOMETHING CRAWL UP MY LEG ;(

  • this is so stupid yea spend money on stupid insects sercously that is stupid forget the famine in world lets save these stupid insects what a wast of money and time

  • @1c2a3s5e11y well, instead of stopping fammine I would invest on education, because poor uneducated people have a lot of kids, who are very likely to stay poor and unneducated. I say, prevent famine by preventing overpoulation.

  • Process is simple: Neurotoxins numb the brain that was telling the roach to kick fast and survive. Now the brain that is awake is that controls common tasks, such as walk, drink eat or lie flat......

Haven't you been able to witness an accident survivor at the spot?

  • Hey god! Where the hell did you come up with that idea??

  • The solution for the Zombie Apocalypse.

  • @Carranca99 now all we need to do is stock up on octopamine.

  • Explain to me how anyone other than the Israelis would want to save a cockroach?

  • I swear, I'll release a swarm of those wasps in my house.

  • FUCK AIDS FUCK AFRICA ! Let's spend money and time trying to save cockroaches

  • That's not gross at all.

  • my moma lied to me ! she said i came out of her vagina !

  • how the HELL did i end up here?

  • fuck im eating.

  • your purpose is to exist dude... to show everyone that there are dumb ass like u that exist...

  • how the fuck did i get here dude?

  • Poor cockroach is an oxy moron.

  • "Everyone Type "Won" Before youtube.com

  • Alright scientist, i have a 5.9 million dollar grant for your research, what will you do next? cure cancer ? stop the affects of altzheimers ?

no... i have much better plans......

and thus is why we now have a medical procedure to un paralyze cockroaches

Good job scientist money well spent.....

  • @uberdeater

    ugh

There are other scientific fields than the cure for cancer.

  • @ZachCraft Don't these people irritate you? it seems I can't read the comments section on a single new scientist video without the naive cacophony of 'you should've cured cancer instead' cries.

  • @93tomb

All the time. These people don't realize that a lot of amazing breakthroughs come from accidents, or from other fields that would normally be totally unrelated.

Who knows, we could end up using what was shown in this video to revive people in different circumstances.

  • @ZachCraft I whole heartedly approve of your profile picture, by the way :)

  • @93tomb

    Thank you good sir!

  • @uberdeater How, if you were given the money, would you go about stopping the effects of alzheimers? Personally, I'd invest it first in research to document the effects of chemicals on the activity of a model for the human brain, starting with as simple an animal as possible. Say, for example, a cockroach.

  • @uberdeater haha, oh you.

  • @uberdeater well yes but this could be applied to other useful sciences like curing cancer or anti-venom.

  • @uberdeater Thats the problem with the average person, they are so short sighted. Lets break this down so you can understand the significance. They found a chemical that restores nerve function to damaged tissue....... Studies like this help them understand how this damage is reversed and they can then apply that knowledge to helping PEOPLE with damaged nerve tissue. Paraplegics, Parkinsons, Alzheimers, the list goes on and on. So try not to be so short sighted.

  • @uberdeater Understand one thing, understand many things.

  • @uberdeater

You know fuck about research. Stop flaming.

  • @uberdeater if you dumbass had any idea of how complicated human biochemistry really is...

  • @uberdeater Would you rather them try the shot on a human?

  • @uberdeater Actually the zombie cockroach condition here is highly analogous to Parkinson's Disease in humans, so understanding how it works in much simpler species could lead to treatments for humans.

  • @RoboLime garry's wasps, wasp fortress roach, half roach 2

    XD

  • Wow...the politicians of the insect world

  • Ummm... What was the point of those scientist of making a cure for those cockroaches? I mean cockroaches need to leave earth already they have been around too long..

  • @TheHXCLee man u are nutts.. they were made for something... like u are made for a purpose...

  • @yamaha4759 we werent made for a purpose, we just exist.

  • @TheHXCLee how can something be here too long?

  • @TheHXCLee

Cockroaches need to leave? They deserve to be here as much as anyone/thing else. In fact, considering how much Humanity broke and left to rot, we're the least deserving of life on Earth. The cockroach has survived millenia by adapting and evolving. The carnivorous spider survived by adapting and evolving - becoming the perfect hunter.

THEY should die because we find them ugly/disgusting/useless? Intelligent as humans are, I find their hypocrisy leaves room for improvement...

  • Wow who would have thought that

  • omg thank you someone else realizes that zombie dosnt mean living dead just that its someone (or something in this case) thats under a spell

  • roofy

  • Only a Jew will want to save a roach after all they are their kinfolk

  • Fuck ochtopoline I'll use heroin.

  • @iassen1 lolz

  • I like how so many people are SO upset by seeing a cockroaches life saved that they don't even stop to fucking IMAGINE how saving a living thing from paralysis and brain damage might be umm. A good thing? Just maybe?

  • @aGasmaskProcession What the fuck are you talking about, dude?

  • @aGasmaskProcession they're disgusting lil basterds and they seem to not be extinct now are they

  • @BlastAchmed If they can figure out how to rescue a cockroach, perhaps they can figure out how to save humans too. I'm pretty sure that's what aGasmaskProcession is hinting at.

  • Man that hurts it is PARTIALLY paralyzed so the baby wasp are putting it through hell

  • KILL THE MUTHAFUCKING ROACHES!! Why are you saving them???? Save a fucking manatee or an endangered leopard not a roach!!!

  • @miamiwax shush! if the poison adapts to humans, you'll be damn happy they found an antidote! we wouldn't want a zombie apocalypse to occur, now would we? XD

  • why are they researching this? are they planing to interfere with this wasp's surviving instinct it's evolved over probably millions of years? Leave the wasps be, i hate the roaches anyway :P

  • @wiseye61 I would imagine they are researching this not as a way to combat wasps, but as early biomedical research, possibly for treating things like brain damage and paralysis. Just a guess, but, especially with cutting edge science, discoveries in one area to tend to "bleed" over into others, and many new medical treatments have come from observing and trying to replicate animal behaviours and/or systems.

  • I wonder why they are researching this? MK Ultra.

  • I love me some octopamine. Best ephedra replacement I have found.

  • Team wasp!! Fuck team roach

  • @aznsnowbail2

    Go team roach!!

  • @dreadwing93 You are now my wife's zombie slave. Now take care of my offspring

  • im gonna full fill my house with jewel wasps to be protected of those shit roaches

  • @malakas582 na katharizes kalitera? xD

  • @foravaine xaxaxa

katharizw re alla edo pou menw exei zesth kai polla xorafia ktlp kai exoume gemisei tora to kalokairi

  • @malakas582 xD nai r plaka kanw

  • yay im happy i killed jewel wasp

  • @applelusciouss whyy?

they kill those freaking nasty roaches

    let them live

  • Interesting, but seemingly pointless science.

  • It's the adventures of retarded wasp and sexual deviant cockaroache... wait wut?

  • @RoboLime haha so needs to be a mod.

  • i live in FL and saw a wasp doing the same thing to a big wolf spider. it was an epic battle and a few days later the spider had eggs inside of it.

  • I wonder how the wasp discovered this method. Freaks me out, yo.

  • roaches suck and most women are afraid of them. So lets say we find one of these wasps in our homes, women will still freak out lol

  • Nuke roaches

  • they should of added to the end and " ventures into the world.. only to be stepped on ".

  • One more reason to love not being a cockroach

  • thats some wicked shit it must hurt like hell being eaten alive from the inside out :O

  • Insects don't feel pain each muscle is a brain it has an exoskeleton so no pain at all

  • @jodo725 i meant it in a general way that being eaten inside out must hurt as hell...and maybe scientists think bugs dont feel pain now ask the bug if he doesnt feel pain

  • @mexicanpowerputo Well a great deal of research has been done over many decades by doctors an anethesiologists to understand pain and the nervous system. Insects don't really think or 'feel' anything because they don't have nervous systems connected connected to brains that are capable of feeling pain the way mammals do. They simply react to threats or damage and scurry away. But I guess it would still suck ass to be a cockroach being eaten alive.

  • so thats why when you remove one of their leg they can still move like nothing happened?

  • Umbrella did it.

  • This is just my take on it:

The point isn't to 'save' the cockroach, the point is to understand how the chemicals effect the roach brain. A. Compressa injects and certain chemical to 'zombify' it, so perhaps it was out of curiosity to figure out what chemical would reverse the process.

  • The cockroach is just a parasite, thats contamines our food and hospital, now we have about 600 per person in the world, thaey have more than 300 milion years and now they find his right predator, the jewel wasps came to live in your garden and backyardgan, its the nature making your job, some thing sent by god to crontol this specie, at day they are into the toillet or at your yardtrash and you cannot see, at night, they are into your kitchen contamining your food, and arounding your face at bed

  • @bymadan wow you're so shortsighted:P yeah the jewel wasp is propably gods punishment to cockroaches for contaminating your food...or its the naturally developed predator in the food chain for cockroaches.

btw they don't contaminate your food as they don't cary human deceases, you just don't like em because they want to eat your foodd.

  • have you ever reared about bacteria and germs? Do you watch tv or reed book? wow sorry for you

  • yes i have. and now comes the big shock. hold on to your seat! those germs and bacteria are there even if the cockroach is not!!! badaboom shock and aww.sure they cary bacteria. so do you and everybody else. its about what bacteria you cary. the most it can do is make your bread go stail. and another surprise for you, its gonna do that anyway!

  • oh how wrong you are, only 2 % of the cockroack population of the "world" is a pest that means 98% are exotic insects living in jungles and forests.

  • damn nature, you scary!

  • Whats the fuckin point? Saving cockroaches.. great job there.

  • @blinkvirus

Ignorant being, because there has to be balance in this world! Cockroaches are cleaners and when they are gone, who is going to clean the crap? You?

  • I could clean up the shit your chatting through your mouth if you want.. stupid cunt.

  • @blinkvirus

Eating and shiting, no purpose to exist! Now there is also shit coming out of your mouth, what went wrong? Well I know, cockroach didn't clean you out!

  • Say shit's coming out my mouth? Just read what you've just put! Why are you so upset that everyone hates cockroaches? Just get out, you suck at life.

  • Boy boy, say that crap into my face, I will fuck you up big time! A big dillhole on youtube? The world is small, watch out boy!

  • lol... now you're talking shit to me... on youtube. Say whatever you want, shit aint gonna happen. How the fuck you gonna know its me if we bump into each other anyway? All i can say is, Bring it cockroach boy!

  • what's the point of saving pest???????

  • haha thats the wasps date rape drug

  • whats the cockroaches purpose? are they dangerous to people? they freak me out when i travel to warmer climates.. thank you.

  • they're like flies and others like them, the worlds janitors.

  • That's not a nice way to go.

  • lol

  • Reminds me of Alien.

  • RAPE

  • oh man this is like AVP BUT ZOMBIE STATUS RUNNN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wasps are going to take over the world. I have been killing tens of thousands of them every week for a month and a half, and they keep coming. Yes, I found the colony and destroyed it, but many of them escaped. The ones that are left are apparently the tough smart aggressive ones.

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Roaches will get revenge on you wasps!! YOU'LL SEE!

  • cock roaches cld bite bees bees cld sting humans and bam... ZOMBIES :O

  • Go wasps.

  • lets spend a million dollars on a shot for cockroaches so they can walk away from a wasp sting! brilliant. (sarcasm)

  • I sincerely doubt more than a thousand dollars was spent on this experiment. Besides, what will we do when the zombie-nazi-robot-cockroach apocalypse comes, and we don't have anything to inject into their brain?

  • sooo true...^^

  • Zombies are coming all, better stock up.

  • This is important folks!

If we can prevent roaches from turning into zombies, maybe we can prevent ourselves from turning into zombies as well.

  • but wheres the fun in that

  • i hate cockroaches

  • that must be very painful for the roach to be eaten alive, i mean wow. what a way to die. :(

  • wow, this is intresting, and so many possibilities!

this could help research to revive brain dead people and autistic people!

this isn't just helping roaches, people, it's helping advance technology, and out understanding of the human brain, and what effects it, i really don't see how you dont think this is interesting

  • But that'll have to depend on whether the condition is external or internal. Autism is quite often caused internally by genetic defects, which cannot be changed...for now.

  • ofc ....who would of though that we are helping roaches here?

  • Comment removed

  • @superkartz obviously you're not seeing the bigger picture. :/ I doubt the point of this research was to help roaches. It seems like they're testing a drug to help people who are braindead. Isn't that a worthy cause?

  • that's retarded why would you help the roaches

    goof heads>>>>

  • I like the crunching noise they make when I squish them

  • Why is this useful at all?

  • why did they invent a chemical to help the roaches o.O...

  • Maybe the cockroaches will form a giant shield to shield the city being attacked with a nuclear missle in order to repay us...Or I just dont get enough sleep to make rational answers

  • the technology can be used to possibly restimulate "dead" cells in the brain that dont get stimulated by dopamine anymore.

  • its a possibility that we can somehow raise the dead. This is just an example of what it will be like. Its possible but we wouldn't be using HO's and inject a dead guy's brain :P

  • no, because unlike a dead person. the cockroach is very much alive, hypnotized is a better word than zombified.

  • this is just my theory not an actual fact.

  • good less roaches

  • what a way to die

  • I was like "hm this is cool" Then the lady is like "they poke a hole in his stomach and the larve eats the cockroach from the inside out"

  • yea me too

  • w yes, but does anyone know if a jewel wasp will sting and/or bite a human?

  • Am i the only one that think of the movie "Alien vs Predator"? :p

Kind of scary if you think about it :S

  • can we revive the paralyzed with that chemical for humans???

  • poor cockroach :-(

  • Wasps you parasitic freaks.

  • save cockroaches? whyy? i can't understand..

  • Good god, How dare they do this to the cockroach, natures perfect lifeform.

Thank god we developed something that can save them. We must proceed as quickly as possible.

  • how are cockroaches nature's perfect lifeform? i understand that they live through dangerous conditions, but they are far from perfect. please enlighten me.

  • if you cant tell, patriot378 was being sarcastic at the time that israel wastes on garbage like saving a roach?

  • oh, no i couldnt tell. lol

  • now no matter how much i hate cockroaches this is completely true we must save them for one day they may evolve into something greater than human kind will ever be. Indestructible, Intelligent, etc.

so yeah it would be good to save the cockroaches

  • what do you mean to save cockroaches?

  • well like if you dont have to kill a cockroach that you see then don't just like electricity if your not using it then turn it off

  • those things help decomposing sum of our shits

    but still

    why save them :P
