Great movie! loved it. It was so funny how he moved in and just took over the whole house. It was like one thing after another that was happening in the house. It was definitey worth watching.
THAT'S right, I KNEW she was familiar!!! Haha thanks..........there is something about her shrill trembly voice that is so annoying yet so endearing at the same time LOL.
Monty Wooley is such a turkey in this, but he does a great job, he's funny. Fun movie, and sort of strange. Thanks for posting. Bette Davis is againt typecast, in a demure role indeed. Great!
I saw this movie this morning for the 1st time . I laughed my ass off I really think that Seth MacFarland used Monty Wooley's part as a model for Family Guys Stewie Griffins character
A story of Sheridan Whiteside and his dinner visit with a midwestern family. The dinner turned into a month long headache! Whiteside is a very popular radio commentator, who will speak his mind. The trouble is upon his dinner departure, he slips on a porch step and "breaks" his leg. The family, feeling Whiteside would sue them for publicity, houses him until his "broken" leg mends. This film is a four star classic. The includes Bette Davis, Ann Sheridan, and Jimmy Durante,
He reminds me of Clifton Webb's acid tongued role in "Laura"

she is so cute. I don't remember her name, I just know she is Glenda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz
Trinity4KRR 2 years ago 4
Her name is Billie Burke. (August 7, 1884 May 14, 1970) Also notable that she was married to Florenz Ziegfeld

@rosscorr How could you mention Billie Burke and NOT note that she was Glinda the Good Witch of the North in The Wizard of Oz?

Who would have thought that sweet old lady would turn out to be a murderous physcopath?
What is that fantastic rhyme Sheridan recites?
Charlie Chaplin went to France, to teach the ladies how to dance... eh... something... something... and for Daddy 41! Anyone?
lonelygirlthomas 3 years ago
It was originally
Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother 40 whacks
And when she saw what she had done
She gave her father 41.
He altered it to match the old lady.

This is the greatest comedy I've ever seen! I viewed the Library of Congress print last night at the NC Museum of Art.

Does Sheridan remind anyone of Stewie Griffin from Family Guy? Yup, I think he's the inspiration.
