We live in an Electric Universe, not a gravitational universe.
When are we going to realise that Einstein was wrong about gravity. Black Holes, gravity waves, dark matter, dark energy and all this other conjured up stuff do not exist. We need to stop wasting money searching for new particles and forces invented by mathematicians. A good measure of a theory is its ability to predict the outcome of new observations or explain them without introducing additional tailor-made concepts.
@3pntballh0ckey3 Yes, I believe that has been considered. I think the problem is that this extra mass seems to be spread out very evenly throughout a galaxy. If there were black holes we would be able to detect them by looking at their effects on nearby stars. This is how we know there is a super-massive black hole at the center of our galaxy. But, I'm not a cosmologist. Best to confirm this answer with someone who is.
I did an experiment: would Griest mention the accelerations involved? If he did not quantify this, I would give the video a failing grade. I give this video an F. Numbers matter, as he knows well. The acceleration for gas at the edge of the galaxy is 10 orders of magnitude smaller than an apple falling here. I would have love to hear the size of the Universe accelerating compared to an apple. An informative description of the problem is far more important than talking about hypotheses.
@3pntballh0ckey3 Perfectly plausible. Nobody actually knows what black holes are (they've never been observed have they?). There are a whole variety of theories ranging from collapsed stars (the most plausible), as you said, condensed dark matter, inverted wormholes, anti-gravity (although an example of this has never been found) ect. So yeah it's possible, just probably not the answer. Besides, doesn't matter what age you are to understand physics (I'm only 14 myself)!

you all derive your ideas from the wrong information. base your conclusions on the electric universe model. that way what you see in at the hubble pictures will fit perfectly with the model. google holoscience if you look at many hubble pictures you see networks of filaments and if you look closer your see they are electric. compare the filamentary networks with pictures of multiple lightning strikes from earth weather pictures and you would see the striking similarity.

@sowhatsnew205 MACHOS and WIMPS are possible candidates for the dark matter. Massive cometary halo objects may be massive, dark clumps of matter orbiting the galaxies. Weakly interacting massive particles are particles which may have great mass but aren't normally observable because they don't interact with normal matter and son't emit radiation.

@jibbij360 I watch these videos because I can't attend every lecture everywhere. Usually they don't go into the math much but you can find that in the peer reviewed journals. I have no idea where you came up with your unusual hypothesis but it clearly has not been submitted to a journal and passed peer review. Nor does it make any sense as stated. i think of dark matter as very low pressure, when you think of hurricanes the eye of the storm has the lowest pressure causing the molecules to get sucked into the middle and same with tornadoes the lowest pressure is at the base causing molecules to spin/rotate around it. Now compare that to a black hole.

Now if you've seen isobars before from satellite compare it to this video of dark matter (Dark Matter Dark Energy & the Unknown Universe) and you will see the similarities.

Hi I am UCSD student and I was looking at the video by Dr Joseph Rhawn. The video shows a 3D rendering that gives shape to dark matter using gravitational lensing. The video is called "Dark Matter Dark Energy & the Unknown Universe". Is it possible that what we call dark matter is actually the bending and twisting of space? Could it be that space-time is not as smooth as we thought?

However, generally speaking scientists tend to go with the simplest explanation until there is good reason to adopt the more complicated explanation. That's because things are always most likely to happen via the simplest mechanism. Look up Ockham's Razor.
Whilst your explanation might be true, there's no reason to accept it. But well done for coming up with the idea :-).
It's notable that instead of doing like most speakers and talking going on and on about how mysterious dark energy is, and how we have no idea what it is, he simply says that the cosmological constant is obviously nonzero. Which is probably a sensible thing to do.
Maybe a possible explanation for difficulty in detecting the dark matter on earth is the relative Size and Scale in order for them to be effective.
A good example: the graviton particle, under the scale of sub-atomic level it has almost puny to no effect on other particles, but gravitons(responsible for gravity) have huge effects on the scale of cosmic size matter such as star, planets, galaxies..etc.
The dark matter could be something that works relatively in large(Comic) scale only.

@GShock112 well if you step hundreds of years into the future, all those galaxies will have disappeared further into the past, meaning that from here, we will no longer be able to see them, and we would have a different perspective of the universe: that perspective being innacurrate and completely different from what we know today.

When are we going to realise that Einstein was wrong about gravity. Black Holes, gravity waves, dark matter, dark energy and all this other conjured up stuff do not exist. We need to stop wasting money searching for new particles and forces invented by mathematicians. A good measure of a theory is its ability to predict the outcome of new observations or explain them without introducing additional tailor-made concepts.

If there were black holes we would be able to detect them by looking at their effects on nearby stars. This is how we know there is a super-massive black hole at the center of our galaxy. But, I'm not a cosmologist. Best to confirm this answer with someone who is.

I did an experiment: would Griest mention the accelerations involved? If he did not quantify this, I would give the video a failing grade. I give this video an F. Numbers matter, as he knows well. The acceleration for gas at the edge of the galaxy is 10 orders of magnitude smaller than an apple falling here. I would have love to hear the size of the Universe accelerating compared to an apple. An informative description of the problem is far more important than talking about hypotheses.

There are a whole variety of theories ranging from collapsed stars (the most plausible), as you said, condensed dark matter, inverted wormholes, anti-gravity (although an example of this has never been found) ect. So yeah it's possible, just probably not the answer. Besides, doesn't matter what age you are to understand physics (I'm only 14 myself)!

you all derive your ideas from the wrong information. base your conclusions on the electric universe model. that way what you see in at the hubble pictures will fit perfectly with the model. google holoscience if you look at many hubble pictures you see networks of filaments and if you look closer your see they are electric. compare the filamentary networks with pictures of multiple lightning strikes from earth weather pictures and you would see the striking similarity.

@sowhatsnew205 MACHOS and WIMPS are possible candidates for the dark matter. Massive cometary halo objects may be massive, dark clumps of matter orbiting the galaxies. Weakly interacting massive particles are particles which may have great mass but aren't normally observable because they don't interact with normal matter and son't emit radiation.

the matter in our universe had to come from some where. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed, only changed from one form to another, and I am saying that black holes process the mass that falls into it to make dark matter, and the Dark Matter Universe could a Bose-Einstein Condensate, and during the Big Bang was released into the universe as we now know it, See video for domo.

@jibbij360 I watch these videos because I can't attend every lecture everywhere. Usually they don't go into the math much but you can find that in the peer reviewed journals. I have no idea where you came up with your unusual hypothesis but it clearly has not been submitted to a journal and passed peer review. Nor does it make any sense as stated. I'd be curious to see it explained mathematically. And your comment has nothing to do with my response to the others.

@3pntballh0ckey3 The black holes are already counted for. Lawrence Krauss has a great book named "The Fifth Essence" and "Quintessence", they both talk about dark matter. I have a fever and a headache today, so can't remember why. Let me come back to you later.

i think of dark matter as very low pressure, when you think of hurricanes the eye of the storm has the lowest pressure causing the molecules to get sucked into the middle and same with tornadoes the lowest pressure is at the base causing molecules to spin/rotate around it. Now compare that to a black hole.

@dredsin212 when thinking of weather you can find the storms by looking at the isobars(pressure lines) closer they are clouds will form. Now if you've seen isobars before from satellite compare it to this video of dark matter (Dark Matter Dark Energy & the Unknown Universe) and you will see the similarities.

Hi I am UCSD student and I was looking at the video by Dr Joseph Rhawn. The video shows a 3D rendering that gives shape to dark matter using gravitational lensing. The video is called "Dark Matter Dark Energy & the Unknown Universe". Is it possible that what we call dark matter is actually the bending and twisting of space? Could it be that space-time is not as smooth as we thought?

The science of making you be a conscious man without strains. The allegory of creating gold of nothing.
Science has answers, so do religions. You just have to look at it different ways.

@3pntballh0ckey3 I'm no astrophysicist, but your theory sounds like it could be true :-).
However, generally speaking scientists tend to go with the simplest explanation until there is good reason to adopt the more complicated explanation. That's because things are always most likely to happen via the simplest mechanism. Look up Ockham's Razor.
Whilst your explanation might be true, there's no reason to accept it. But well done for coming up with the idea :-).

It's notable that instead of doing like most speakers and talking going on and on about how mysterious dark energy is, and how we have no idea what it is, he simply says that the cosmological constant is obviously nonzero. Which is probably a sensible thing to do.

Maybe a possible explanation for difficulty in detecting the dark matter on earth is the relative Size and Scale in order for them to be effective.
A good example: the graviton particle, under the scale of sub-atomic level it has almost puny to no effect on other particles, but gravitons(responsible for gravity) have huge effects on the scale of cosmic size matter such as star, planets, galaxies..etc.
The dark matter could be something that works relatively in large(Comic) scale only.

@GShock112 well if you step hundreds of years into the future, all those galaxies will have disappeared further into the past, meaning that from here, we will no longer be able to see them, and we would have a different perspective of the universe: that perspective being innacurrate and completely different from what we know today.
