1980's produced ring warriors and legends.. duran, sugar ray, hearns, hagler, sal sanchez, tyson and these two bravehearts. Today's boxing is a disgrace.. lots of chicken, ducks and sore losers.
dudes! chacons old manager own a burger spot in vernon ca. we'd walk into his place every thursday after our ups shift, eat a burger and watch a fight. i remembered this fight because it definitely stood above many of the classics he showed us. im just glad that these videos are up now cus a couple years back there wasnt shit!
My brother and I would drive all over to see Bobby "Chingon" fight. Even to Las Vegas or San Diego, and my brother was a sleepy driver that would not let me drive his precious 1966 Shelby Mustang. We were lucky to get home in one piece!
I was at this fight ringside !! what a fight it was keith jackson said this place is ringing as stucco was falling from the ceiling !! the last wbc fight ever !!!
absolutely the greatest fight of all time. but could u have chosen worse music? honestly wow i never thought such a horrible song could be chosen for a fight highlight, you've gotta be kidding me. u see this fight and THIS is the song you thought would fit it?
@qotsaband If you watch the show the song's from, you'll understand why it fits. The show's about boxing and the main character epitomizes everything that is this fight. It's called Hajime no Ippo.
I love how Bazooka had a villain like quality to him. His exaggerated winged power shots looked like missiles and best of all his only defense was his offense.
Bobby Chacon is possibly the best 'value for money' fighter I've ever seen, along with Matthew Saad Muhammad, Arturo Gatti and Henry Armstrong. He was never in a bad scrap.
Q increible pelea!!! SIMPLEMENTE INCREIBLE!!! no tengo palabras, q motivaba a esos hombres??? Una pelea asi solo la pudo haber dado un Mexicano vs un Estadounidense
Brilliant! But who won? Did the guy in blue get up to take a decision or did the guy in redput him down for the count? Sorry I don't know which one's which because for some reason I've never heard of these guys.
I remember watchin' this fight on a Saturday afternoon when I was a sophmore in high school and it is still the greatest fight i have ever seen!!! ;-)
wow, it's like seeing 2 tazmanian devils who just broke out of their cage and went to war
i'm always amazed at how many times bobby chacon rose up from canvas and continued marching into the meat grinder. that pug has heart. he reminds me of diego "chico" corrales in the 10th rnd in his fight againts luis castillo
one observation i made about his bobby's style was that he was sort of rolling with the punches even tho most were flush. amazing will, grit, and what a fighting spirit!!
The definition of heart is Bobby Chacon. I remember watching this fight on a sleepy sat afternoon. I looked over to my dad and said is this the best figher ever and we agreed. It was free as well:)
Chacon was a warrior. He fought all the best fighters of his era. Chacon never ducked anyone. One of the most exciting and likeable fighters that I have ever seen.
I talked with Bobby last Friday. he said his toughest fight was against Alexis Arguello. Bobby is still a true champ still full of life always happy to see you. He even let me take a pic with the belt he won in this fight.

I remember watching this fight in my college dorm room on a 15 inch black and white TV.
This was back when they'd show fights on regular television.
I was amazed that Chacon was pounding Limon but those two knockdowns loomed large and Chacon NEEDED that knockdown in the 15th or he would have lost it - but he got the knockdown and pulled it out.
I have always been a big fan of the sweet science - this was one of the best I have seen EVER!!!
Supposedly Bobby Chacon ended up penniless and suffering from slurred speech, short-term memory loss, and dementia from a long, brutal boxing career. His wife was right. Bobby should've quit when he had the chance.
That is unfortuately true. I meet him, yesterday at an event that I was working. He carries around a card of himself, with a picture from his fighting days. He is hard to understand, but as nice and gentle as can be. It's sad the damages boxing can inflict.
Really? How about Chavez? Who quit not once but twice against Golden Boy and we won't even get into his dog act against Frankie Randell in the second fight.
nice! hope theres somebody upload PACMAN'S highlights with a background music of INNER LIGHT by SHOCKING LEMON!!! coz manny will be a hall of famer legend boxer and will be the BEST BOXER in HISTORY.he'll gonna prove it after his future fights againts HATTON and MAYWEATHER.P4P KING or lets say a "BOXING KING".

this should be one among the top ten greatest fight..limon lived up to his bazooka monicker..and b chacon ..just pure heart..guts and blood..yes, we are hoping that both are taken cared of in their sunset days..i dont think we can witness the same spectacle in our lifetime..and this was a 15 round bout..let's bow our heads to these two great men..pure breed of men..
@lumbiaknight87 just speaking the truth... watching these two mfers brings tears to my eyes, thinking of the punishment they gave and TOOK. poor bobby, I think i'm going to make a pilgramage to the west coast... mark my words (i'm a law school student and amateur boxer) when I make my first ten grand... one grand is going to bobby's church (or wherever it can help him most)

I know that Chacon is broke and broken down mess these days. Can't see any different scenairio for Limon. A face first, wide swinging brawler. Lets hope they are @ least being cared for by someone, somewhere.

THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS.i watch the full fight all the time and it never ceases to amaze. whats the song behind these highlights?? its kinda
I was at this fight. 7th row ringside. It is possible that this was the last 15 round Championship bout in history. The amazing thing about Bobby was the fact that he followed up with another Ring Magazine fight of the year 3 months later when he fought Boza-Edwards in Las Vegas. I can still hear Dr. Ferddie Pachaeco (thats right it's Ferddie) screaming "stop the fight! Bobby can't take this kind of punishment"! By the 12th Boza was done. Bobby truely had heart and he passed it to Tony Lopez.
are you from Sacramento? Was this fight at Memorial Auditorium? I was young and only saw this on t.v.What I can't believe is that, in my quest to find the best fights ever, this fight is overlooked as one of the greatest fights ever.I've gone back and watched ALOT of boxing, and I can't find a better fight than this.
Yes, to both questions. It's a top 2 fight of all time in my book. The other being Tony Lopez vs Rocky Lockridge in 1983. That one I saw from 2nd row. (Arco) The sportsmanship and respect each gave makes it so admirable. They touched gloves at the start and end of almost every round. Rocky took 133 stitches. A war to be sure. The shear drama of knocking down Limon in the 15th rnd with 15 seconds left to give Bobby a 10-8 rnd was awesome. Call it a tie between the 2. You should see that one too.
I'm from Sacramento, my dad was Pete Ranzani's dentist. We got to see alot of great local fights. Do you remember Tony's brother Sal? He too was a great fighter. Thanx mucho mucho for the info. I missed the Lopez vs. Lockridge fight.
True, but Limon was also way past his prime. Prime vs prime, Camacho would have probably still won, although I feel Limon could have put up a great fight.
I was there ringside, best fight i've ever seen, fans were going crazy...this was the last WBC 15 round fight ever I think !! Sacramento loved Bobby very much !!
WOW, that was fantastic. I had never seen this fight before, what a war! Respect to both warriors, your a credit to boxing and a testament to courage.
this is the greatest fight of all time. these highlights, while pretty good, still dont do it justice.this fight is the greatest show of bravery, determination and heart in sporting history.
THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS.i watch the full fight all the time and it never ceases to amaze. whats the song behind these highlights?? its kinda catchy and suits the fight
@cuntyballs07 I only saw this fight once,...in 1982! I remembered it was an instant classic...so i decided to watch it again almost 30 years ago. WOW!!!
i dont think mayweather would beat bobby chacon, it would be one hell of a fight to watch. maybe bazooka limon because of his no guard stances but i still think bazooka would come out the champ could be that im mexican lol.
i would have to disagree mayweathers a good fighter but these guys have something that he lacks which is balls. see in this era its all about money. back then fighters only fought for pride and to be called the greatest so in my opinion mayweather would not stand a chance
I think Floyd Mayweather Jr. would SO do a number on these guys, at 130. Just my two cents. Two courageous warriors, though, in a great fight, indeed :-)
Red trunks has a relentless body attack, and green trunks has a beautiful right hook to the body right upper combo. It's amazing how fast he does that.
I saw this fight for the first time at Mike's Hockey Burgers in Vernon Ca. After watching the fight MIke Chitjian tells us he managed Chacon, and I believe it too because you can see the guy sitting in the background of the fight. Anyways, this fight is crazy! "BAZOOKA" is such a bad ass! My friends and i named our band after the guy.
I don't know much at all about Bazooka Limon but Bobby Chacon is paying a horrible price nowadays for that incredible warrior spirit. If this were the only classic fight Chacon was known for he'd still be a legend, and yet this is just one of many. And if any fight tops Corrales-Castillo, this is definitely it.
Limon/Navarette is a great fight. The quartet of Chacon, Limon, Boza-Edwards, and Navarette have to rank among the great boxing quartets of all-time, with Morales, Barrera, Pacquiao, and Marquez; Louis, Charles, Walcott, and Marciano; Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, and Duran; and Ali, Frazier, Foreman, and Norton.
I remember watching this fight as a kid. was it at Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento? Or was that the 2nd fight? Does anyone remember an Albert Davila fight around this time that was also a great fight? I think it was a Leonard undercard fight.
marvG32, that's exactly what I was thinking. I remember reading KO about this fight and about how Limon's chin seemed to be made of granite before Chacon finally cracked it in the last round. Damn, I miss the 80's music, acid-wash jeans, butt-cut hair styles, great (free) fights and Ronald Reagan.
I remember reading about this in KO magazine and The Ring when I first got into boxing as a kid but I'd never seen it. Unbelievable. Just from the highlights, it's as good as I thought it'd be. Thanks
Oh it defiantely was a hell of a fight. The entire fight kept up a tremendous pace through all 15 rounds, and then Chacon scored with the last second knockdown to gain the edge on points.
I'm worn out just from watching the highlight reel (and by the way, the Hajime no Ippo theme song really fit the fight, even if it was a Mexican and a Mexican American fighting each other). What's kind of surprising for me is that I know the first Pryor/Arguello fight was in the same year, and this was fight of the year over it, so this must have been some hell of a fight.
Pryor-Arguello I was only three weeks B4. Then Gomez vs. Pintor only one week before, Sanchez-Nelson 5 months and 3 weeks before and Holmes-Cooney exactly 6 months before. I find it very hard any other year will match 1982 for the greatest year in boxing history as far as great fights.
I remember this fight back in 1982 on television. This was the greatest fight I ever saw. I believe this was also the the fourth fight these guys had.
i think the Music and the fight go good together!!! it's a damn good highlight u put together homie....good job and much love

they fought 4 times in the pro ring. Limon won the first, the second was a draw, and Chacon won the final 2.

Props to Limon for having a f'n granite jaw and Chacon for having the heart of a lion.

Mayweather woulda been too big for Bobby.
Floyd was a big 130 pounder,Bobby was really a featherweight. CHACON IS A BOXING DEITY
cuntyballs07 4 years ago 2
i dont think mayweather would beat bobby chacon, it would be one hell of a fight to watch. maybe bazooka limon because of his no guard stances but i still think bazooka would come out the champ could be that im mexican lol.
realcf12 4 years ago 2
i would have to disagree mayweathers a good fighter but these guys have something that he lacks which is balls. see in this era its all about money. back then fighters only fought for pride and to be called the greatest so in my opinion mayweather would not stand a chance
Imel234 4 years ago 9
LMEL234: Hi. 'Back then' fighters DIDN'T fight for money? Did they fight for marbles?
God Bless You:)
Satori1800 4 years ago
I think Floyd Mayweather Jr. would SO do a number on these guys, at 130. Just my two cents. Two courageous warriors, though, in a great fight, indeed :-)

Red trunks has a relentless body attack, and green trunks has a beautiful right hook to the body right upper combo. It's amazing how fast he does that.

ESPN has a new article that mentions this fight and the incredible story of Limon's personal life leading up to this.

I mean Chacon's life.

Limon tiene un verdadero corazon mexicano

i saw this fight live , on abc, thanks, damn what a fight, i still get goose bumps watching these two brave warriors fight, again , thanks

JonChristopher999 4 years ago 2
Chacon was in some brutal fights, remember the Boza Edwards2 fight? His face was literally falling apart and he still fought it out to the end.

Can't believe these two in-fighters are having a toe to toe without their hands up..that's crazy

One of the best fights ever. This figh is even better than the CASTILLO VS CORRALES fight.
Other great fights: CHACON VS BOZA-EDWARDS
LIMON VS NAVARRETE

i actually just recieved the Limon/Navarette fight on dvd a few days ago. i have yet to watch it.
DragonFishBlow 4 years ago
Limon/Navarette is a great fight. The quartet of Chacon, Limon, Boza-Edwards, and Navarette have to rank among the great boxing quartets of all-time, with Morales, Barrera, Pacquiao, and Marquez; Louis, Charles, Walcott, and Marciano; Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, and Duran; and Ali, Frazier, Foreman, and Norton.
SalvyMic 4 years ago
another quartet of greats were the middleweights of the 60s. Tiger, Benvenuti, Griffith, Fullmer, heck make it a quintet with Giardello.

I remember watching this fight as a kid. was it at Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento? Or was that the 2nd fight? Does anyone remember an Albert Davila fight around this time that was also a great fight? I think it was a Leonard undercard fight.
linkjm 4 years ago
marvG32, that's exactly what I was thinking. I remember reading KO about this fight and about how Limon's chin seemed to be made of granite before Chacon finally cracked it in the last round. Damn, I miss the 80's music, acid-wash jeans, butt-cut hair styles, great (free) fights and Ronald Reagan.
kbond225 4 years ago
I remember reading about this in KO magazine and The Ring when I first got into boxing as a kid but I'd never seen it. Unbelievable. Just from the highlights, it's as good as I thought it'd be. Thanks

raulc3 4 years ago
Oh it defiantely was a hell of a fight. The entire fight kept up a tremendous pace through all 15 rounds, and then Chacon scored with the last second knockdown to gain the edge on points.
DragonFishBlow 4 years ago
Agreed totally it was give and take like all of Limon's fights. I think the Rocky movies could have been based off Limon's career.
02k7018 4 years ago
I'm worn out just from watching the highlight reel (and by the way, the Hajime no Ippo theme song really fit the fight, even if it was a Mexican and a Mexican American fighting each other). What's kind of surprising for me is that I know the first Pryor/Arguello fight was in the same year, and this was fight of the year over it, so this must have been some hell of a fight.
SalvyMic 4 years ago
Pryor-Arguello I was only three weeks B4. Then Gomez vs. Pintor only one week before, Sanchez-Nelson 5 months and 3 weeks before and Holmes-Cooney exactly 6 months before. I find it very hard any other year will match 1982 for the greatest year in boxing history as far as great fights.
AntonioSantiago 4 years ago
And let us not forget Ray Mancini vs Duek Koo Kim took place in 1982 as well. I definately agree 100% on '82 being the greatest year for boxing.
DragonFishBlow 4 years ago
I remember this fight back in 1982 on television. This was the greatest fight I ever saw. I believe this was also the the fourth fight these guys had.
