I think that the translation at 0:25 is wrong... "rex caelestis" is equal to "celestial king" and not "light blue king"... A better traslation for spanish at least is "rey celestial"
@olympicfreak678 Yes. For Mezzo it should be around F# over there. In the High octave. Coz in the Middle octave F# is a change of register for all women and Tenors :)
Anyway, THIS is a Mezzo (at least I think so, there is no way of being 100% sure in these case :) ), but in the Sheet Music i have, apparently Mozart did wrote this for 2 Sopranos. :)
@Vegetth87 Well Frederica von Stade has had a pretty substantial and lengthy career to establish she is a mezzo-soprano albeit a high one who will occasionally dabble in the soprano repetoire. But you must remember that in Mozart's time the term mezzo-soprano did not exist, so this music for Soprano II could be written for what was really a mezzo but was just shoved in and labeled soprano, much like the roles of Cherubino and Dorabella.
@olympicfreak678 mmm in my Requiem score i have the Term Mezzo, and it has more Mezzo's passaggios etc.
Now that you make me focus on it... it's true! Mozart aparently never wrote anything for mezzo.... i kinda think becoz Sopranos are more "light" if you can guess what i mean.... Mezzo's are more Dramatic, the period and the music Mozart wrote (even THIS one) are much more light than, for example, Verdi's :) (no way i can prefer Verdi to Mozart :) )
@Vegetth87 Well, the term mezzo is actually used in some scores i found of the great mass as well. If you look the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe which is considered a very official source, none of the works are labeled mezzo-soprano. Going on what you said about light, sopranos can defintely be dramatic such as Wagner's, Verdi's, and puccini's, although the mezzo-soprano voice is obviously more dramatic than most sopranos. However, lighter voices usually find success in the Mozart mezzo repetoire, such as
@Vegetth87 Vesselina KAsarova, joyce di donato, Teresa Berganza, Magdalena Kožená, Anne Sofie von otter, obviously Frederica von Stade, rinat shaham, jennifer larmore, the list goes on and on. If you look at the article of le nozze di figaro in the roles section, it has some notes that explain the naming of mezzos vs sopranos in mozart's time. I just hate when ppl justify having a soprano for Mozartean roles that are mezzo-soprano property with the fact that "the original was a soprano" SMH.
Yes, she was absolutely marvelous...can't believe we lost her, Tatiana Troyanos and Lucia Popp all within months of each other...what a tragic loss!!!
Música de gran belleza. Gracias Mozart, gracias por compartir. Excelente video.

son 2 sopranos o una d ellas es mezzo?
Raf90pazen 1 year ago
@Raf90pazen one of them is a mezzo, but believe it or not that high A could be more tough for a Soprano than for a Mezzo. Depends on the voice.

@Vegetth87 how so? you've piqued my interest

@Vegetth87 does it have to do with passagio or the shift of registers near the A? Is there an equivalent for the mezzo-sopranos?

Wow! 2:12 is one of the best 'exchanges' I've heard of this passage. So rare to hear it well executed.
