When is this going to be put on DVD? It either needs a GOOD film treatment (read: The Changeling [title with Angelina Jolie not George C. Scott], The Silence of the Lambs, The Cell, etc), or to be issued on DVD.
@ragemanchoo82 We need to start a petition....thats how we are going to get this on DVD!!! Thats how some movies have been put on dvd like, Dark Night Of The Scarecrow...we should try by writing to Rue Morgue Magazine, they listen to the fans!
the 'phantom' may have never been captured & seemed to have sunk into obscurity as quick as he appeared he seemed to have disappeared!but judging from the manner of his sadistic killing he may have served in some war & was traumatized or emotional disturbed by the cruel war treatment towards the enemy and henceforth applied them to his victims.the best scene is the freight train when morales manages to get a clear clean shot as bullets richocet of train & track!undoubtedly a great thriller...
That was 63 years ago. If the killer is still around he/she would be around 80ish. I don't think they are still killing. I live 25 miles south of Texarkana.
there's a ton of jackasses down here who believe that leatherface was real. he wasn't. at the same time, no one seems to even mention this guy -- the granddaddy of a lot of slasher flicks.
and this was really peculiar too. a lot of the murders happened at the end of the tropical yr. and does anyone know if the mask is for real or a figment of hollywood's imagination? i would say the later since no one caught him. .
that's not really what i was talking about. ed gein was real, but leatherface wasn't. i've heard people talk of leatherface as if he was real in his entirety, and lived somewhere around me before, which he wouldn't even the whole thing was real and true as Hooper presented it.
lol this guy is real. he was called the moonlight murderer of texarkana not the phantom killer, and the film only outlined the original story not what really happened. the man suspected of the crimes was actually caught for another crime the town over but not brought to trial because of lack of evidence. this is one of the most bizarre series of crime in american history.
i know he is dead thats why i said at the end Documentary made in 1976......the 1976 movie was based on the murders in 1946...also in the trailer it said that he was between 30 and 40 in 1946............imagine how old he would be if he was still alive now
iluv80shorror: I am struggling so hard to remember the scene I am looking for in this movie (I'm amazed I found the title, but I remember it had Mary Ann from Gilligian's Island in it). I think it involves a trombone with a knife taped to the end of the slide and the killer stabbing Mary Ann while playing it. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen. Do you know what I'm talking about and is that here on YouTube somewhere? Thanks you.
@jjp009 It's not Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) she is the one who escapes in the end by crawling through the cornfield but you are right, he puts a knife on trombone and plays it while stabbing the girl repeated tied to a tree. That's like the 2nd or 3rd couple he kills. (I was 4 and watched this movie at a drive in... my sisters older- were just wrong LOL)
@jjp009 LOL...I know what you mean man. I had serious doubts about myself after watching that scene because I laughed my ass off too. A killer with a sense of humor. Actually he din't die. He surfaced a couple of years ago in a movie with Liv Tyler. He had a crew this time around.
Dawn Wells wasn't used in that scene. It was a local Texarkana girl. They used a lot of locals in the movie. We were very proud of our "stars."

@msmithstud he reminds me of jason in Friday the 13th part 2.
It has been noted that this is the very situation/movie that inspired Jason's burlap sack look in part 2.
