  • This was the movie that got Carlyle noticed. I saw this in the movie theaters back then and had NO idea what I was in for.

To date this movie is one of the creepiest I have ever seen.

I wish someone would upload it, all I can find is one in fucking SPANISH! I don't speak Spanish hahaha. Someone upload! PLEASE!

  • Can we get off the subject of cannibalism and focus on how awesome Robert Carlyle is? Yay!

  • What a perfect film....

  • Very nice but Boyd wasn't a Cannibal.

  • @Arbaal

Again, he ate two different people over the course of the film. Ergo: cannibal.

  • @yeahchris Eh no, Boyd was a hero and nothing less.

  • @Arbaal

Who says the two are mutually exclusive? Boyd can be a hero and a cannibal. (He ate two people.)

One of the major themes of the movie is Boyd struggling to overcome his own cowardice. He froze and played dead at the start of the film while the rest of his unit fought and died. He resorted to cannibalism twice to save his own life, once while stranded in the deadfall trap and once after being stabbed.

It's only at the end that he proves himself a hero by not doing it a third time.

  • @yeahchris

It seems like a lot of people don't realize that Boyd was already a cannibal at the beginning of the film, even if he didn't know it. While he was piled under the dead soldiers after playing dead he mentions that the blood of his commanding officer was running down his throat, and then suddenly he had the strength and courage to capture the enemy's fort. Even before he ends up in the pit he starts to realize that his cowardice had already doomed him.

  • (I think there's a deleted scene or two on the DVD that makes this a little more obvious)

  • @yeahchris yeah that ending was tragic and wonderful at the same time, then that awesome soundtrack cuts in. great film. i particularly liked the dream/hallucination sequance with david arquette.

  • One of my top favorite movies.

Carlyle and Pearce were both brilliant, the whole thing is brilliant.

  • Comment removed

  • "That was...really...sneaky" I lolled.

  • move was okey, I'd recommend watching it.

  • a wendigo stole my baby

  • FATALITY JAJAJAJAJAJA

  • Such a great film. Best fight scene, right up there with the fight scene from They Live. And don't get me started on the music in this film, holy crap, it is the best.

  • that was.... really.... sneaky

    haha love it

  • Boyd wasn't cannibal because he killed himself

  • @3DSFuture

He ate two different people over the course of the film. Ergo: cannibal.

  • @yeahchris He do it to survive

  • @3DSFuture

    can·ni·bal (kn-bl)

    n.

    1. A person who eats the flesh of other humans.

    2. An animal that feeds on others of its own kind.

Notice the lack of qualifiers such as

    Cannibal:

    n.

    1. A person who eats the flesh of other humans, unless of course he does so in order to save his own life.

He ate other people. He engaged in cannibalism, and is thus a cannibal. QED.

  • @yeahchris you rule

  • @3DSFuture Its not the reason why you eat humans that makes you a cannibal... its the fact that you eat them... the reason doesnt matter

  • @3DSFuture wrong. and totally ignorant.

  • @spadehatesscrewtube Yes, you are

  • @spadehatesscrewtube if you had ever seen the movie or cared, you'd know that boyd drank the blood of his fallen comrades before this entire scenario existed. it's in the damn movie. you don't get dipcrap ignorant rights just because you made a post. the actual truthfully honest people who have seen this movie

    know you are bullshit

  • I love how Boyd wears blue and Ives wears red. Cold and hot, temperance and temptation, Apollo and Dionysus. It says everything about their characters. Brilliant movie.

  • BEST MOVIE ,BEST SOUNDTRACK !!!

  • Look how refreshed he is after EATING.^^

  • never understood why the lady kinda gets the final attention when she leaves. like it means something. she wasnt a principal character, and the movie could have ended pointing at someone else...

  • @omgtkseth remember the conversation that she had with the main character about the Cannibals. How you either continue to cannibalize, or sacrifice yourself. She knew what he chose to do and rather than help him, let him sacrifice himself instead of contribute to more inevitable bloodshed.

  • Ives survived this fight and went on to live many years before eventually settling in Leith as a man name Begbie.

  • Even more amazing...remember while you watch this, that this sequence wasn't worked out by a stunt coordinator, but by Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle themselves!

  • i fucking love this movie

  • It was sad that Guy Pearce dies at the end, in a way it was either that or he becomes an out of control cannibal.

I love this movie so much, I had an idea for a sequel that takes place in modern day America where a football team at a high school eat flesh to become the best team.

  • @JReed1985 That idea would only work with amazing writers and a good director. It's too easy to turn that idea into some Scary Movie-like comedy.

  • @Slay318 True, I'm a writer myself. I've thought of the synopsis for the story.

  • @Slay318 What would be even better, is if there were a movie in which a regular kid, aspring to be a historian, uncovers secret documents that show Hitler, Mao, Stalin, all the evil tyrants of history were secretly cannibals and through eating the flesh of men, made contact with a supernatural evil, who enabled them all to rise to power. That would be better dont you think?

  • @ColdCypher perhaps. but it would be wrong and trite as well.

absolute power is way more concerned with control, not through flesh but spirit.

  • @spadehatesscrewtube Well most contemporary depictions of these men are false anyways. The establishment has learned that domination via the lash will always end up being overthrown. Hence, they have resorted to far more effective methods of control. Namely, by manipulating what people know. That in turn controls peoples perspectives not only in their material interests, but spiritual interests as well. The religious establishment preys on peoples hopes and fears in their pursuit of dominance.

  • @spadehatesscrewtube In the end, its all about who gets what. With human greed knowing no bounds, privatization and globalization may indeed be inevitable. Technology however, provides the establishment with a means of realizing their ambitions for global dominance permanently. Which is of course highly tyrannical and negative but simply a result of them feeding their own selfish and natural impulses. Simply the darker side of mankind manifesting itself.

  • @ColdCypher we may have gotten completely away from the actual movie here :p

but in essence i agree with you.

  • @ColdCypher that would be very interesting...only the majority of the audience I am sure would have no idea who Stalin or Mao are.

  • love the music during this scene

  • this is the top ranking sick, twisted and all around fucked up mivie on my list, but i loved it!

  • :D This was funny. I haven't watched the full movie yet, gonna watch it tomorrow from one site.. anyways, Doesnt matter that I now have seen the end. It just proved this movie rocks :D and I'm soo gonna watch this. Thumbs up for this vid! :)

  • I saw this movie around middle school - high school :D It's one of my favorites to this day!

  • One of the most brutal end fight scenes of all time.

  • The question is, if I die, what are you gonna do?

    Bon Appetite!

  • great film!

  • eat to live, dont live to eat - benjamin franklin

  • "That was really sneaky..." Love it, ROFL

  • You need a sense of humor,true-but you also need to see the whole movie to get how truly wicked funny it is!

  • Seriously? Then you have a boring sense of humour.

  • Glad to see all the Ravenous fans here!!! As you can tell I'm a big one!! Love it!

  • loved this movie for 10 years. Jeffrey Jones' performance in it is so awesome. "We have a great sense of camradrie here at Fort Spencer." All the acting was awesome. The deleted scenes are also good, and the hidden backstories.

  • i love this movie, though i have to say two words: messed up

  • Was and still is one of my favorite horror / cannibal movies of all time.

  • Awesome fight!!! Love the track.... but...this may sound pretty twisted... but for some reason that maybe just girls would understand, that was a bit sexy...

  • what was the name of the starring?look cool

  • At :19 when Guy comes out of the door is so cool I would be scard if I someone walking out of a room like that, that is some acting right there.

  • Best fight scene EEEEVVVVEEERRR!

  • Gotta love someone with a sense of humor after bein clenched in a bear trap.

  • It is like Hannibal back in the 1800's?

    Wierd

  • you kindof have to bear with this movie but if you do it has some very profound messages. The visuals are fantastic! It's probably my favorite movie of all time because of the artistic aspect. The scenery, the fort, costumes, and all that beautiful blood!

  • I am with you on this the acting is stellar by Carlyle and Pearce.

  • yeah... this flicks got everything. fun characters kick ass moments, a killer score, good acting original plot, scary moments, and a brutal message of one's own ethos prevailing over corruption. hell that one scene with Boyd hiding int he pit with Reich's body hell you could almost imagine yourself in that situation! its a badass and powerful movie it sucks that it flopped though. too ahead of its time...

  • this movie was hilarious. i almost forgot about it! thanks for posting this!! brings back memories. lol

  • Awesome movie...Awesome soundtrack...

  • I like this fight, they just walk back and forth sticking knifes in each other and taking turns

:D and the music is great

  • "That was... really... sneaky."

  • One of my favorite movies! My favorite Western. Carlyle is my favorite actor. Great scene; fighting, suspense, sexual tension, bear trap, temptation, and death.

  • One of my favourite films. Just love it. The tension in this film is great! This scene is really the most violent stuff in the whole film. Love the hit in the head with the wood. That´s BRUTAL

  • i would have been perfectly content with the movie ending at "bon appetite"

but i guess the final minutes and closure was nice too

  • well yeah, it just explains the wendigo, and shows the indian woman leaving them both to their fate.

  • lmfao nice spelling....checkoslovakia???! its czech lmao

  • Intrestingly enough this was a British fim made in Checkoslovakia not in the US and the heavy is an Irish actor. Hummm....

  • its more of a vampyre, plus wendigo.. to drink, therefore to live ..

    damned for courage, damned without

  • The best moment is the look on Bobby carlysle's face at 3.36. It's the most perfect 'just been hit right between the eyes' look ever.

  • Oh Man The Ending Is So Awesome,F***ing Great Couldn't Be Any Better.Go Robert Carlyle YEAHHH!! :) 5 Stars

  • Fucking love this movie!

  • thanks 4 posting this brother...I want more vid from you

  • Isnt it strange how all cultures in the world have come up with the idea of a vamparic-like being?

  • It's a wendigo a damn humandemon of a cannibal

  • it's not so strange : men always noticed that a creatures without blood die... so if one can drink blood, he could live maybe forever ?

  • neva thought of it like that, good call.

  • @Artist3303 Its because vampires really are REAL oooooo

  • @Artist3303 not really. at its core its just parasitism, thats been around millenia before humans have. and its vampiric.

  • @Artist3303 It's a metaphor for death .... A good friend of mine said this one.. Everybody wants to go to heaven.. just not right now... having said that, you'd be very suprised what people can do when threatened.

  • @Artist3303 bullcrap those vampiric shit hahahaha

  • @Artist3303 Bullshit those vampiric crap hahaha

  • @ozawa660 it's not about vampirism, it's about canibalism for power. But it's not true that you can become stronger in reality life anyway you will get infection is PRION to be addicted. if you have infection and produce baby with wife, baby have less chanche to get addictive and eat or drink blood, called is canable.

  • @lladic2 well the, thank you for the info :)

  • @ozawa660

indeed, before we discovered about porphyria, long ago they thought they're vampire... so ppl became hunters to hunt on vampires and killed TOO MUCH innocents with porphyria. These ppl with poryphyria drank blood for medical.

Sad story about innocents. For now, vampirism is no longer myth. At the moment they eat other cure instead drinking blood. It's rare disease. Drinking blood is dangerous and yes infections too. End of story.

  • @Artist3303 not really. when you stop to think, it's just the idea of a human type parasite. and parasites have been around forever. i think matt wagner had a great line when he penned grendel, tojiro is boasting about being the superior being to christine spar, and she rebuffs him saying bah, vampires are leeches, sucking at another beings ability to survive.
