Keeping Simon Pegg quiet? Is that even possible? Haha love Simon. This is so interesting seeing a slightly different side to these comedic geniuses. Thanks for uploading these :)
I think the biggest problem for female comedians is that they make a point of being female. In a sort of "HEY I'M A WOMAN BUT I'M STILL QUITE FUNNY EVEN THOUGH I'M GENDER-CHALLENGED!". I laugh my ass off at Charlyn Yi and Kristen Schaal. They're genuinely hilarious, and they couldn't really give a fuck what gender they are. Stop feeling sad about being female and you're more likely to be funny. Harsh but true.
I disagree with you. Women are just as funny as men are. The comedy world is just a very male dominated business (like most businesses), so males are usually the ones who get top billing and ever really "make it." That's not to say that the fellas here haven't earned their keep (oh how I love Eddie Izzard); it's just important to acknowledge the role that good old fashion sexism plays in the entertainment world.
That is most definitely true. Sexism is still a huge factor - although you could also say that comediennes like Victoria Wood, Jo Brand and Jenny Eclair alienate male audiences by doing predominantly female-centric material. I tried to think of as many women comics as I could, and out of only 19 there were 5 who I didn't find extremely annoying. Although, I haven't yet done the same with male comics... there is no excuse for that grotty little pleb Jim Davidson!!!
ugh this is SO dumb! As if this kind of conversation still exists!
It has nothing to do with the male or the female sex, it has to do with the comedian themselves! That's like saying that Sarah Silverman only appeals to Jews, but Richard Pryor appeals to both black and white people. Give me a break. If you find French and Saunders, or other fantastic comediennes alienating then you're the problem, not them.
@ohnoher There's also an assumption in the world (not just entertainment but journalism and academia too) that while women are interested in stories about men, men are not interested in stories about women. Which, if true, is pretty sad.
Not at all. I think it was a good question, because you see a penis on tv its funny as fock, but if somoe got there willy out at school, theyre a freak, no laughes. Well, again laughes retrospetavly, like Noel's story.

Johnathon Ross isn't worthy of being interviewed alongside any of these comedy stars and i think Dawn knew that so didn't waste her time with him.

why are men inherently so much funnier than women? with a few exceptions (French & Saunders, Victoria Wood)

I think that Dawn French's "Girls who do comedy" is way funnier than this male version, but I think it just depends.
