  • question why sometimes synthetic venetian plaster cracks or peels off? i cant figure this out yet i suspect is because you have to use a special primer or perhaps because its still too wet anybody??

  • @Giugal66 When its happened to me its because it is not fully dry before applying the next coat or burnishing. - Tony

  • @Giugal66 thanks tony how do you fix the peeling? i tried to apply more plaster but it keeps on peeling even after i let it dry for a day and then re apply more plaster!

  • In my opinion this is not a good way to do sinthetic venetian plaster, he waits for it to dry to burnish the best way is to burnish the plaster when is semi dry just drying it gets it shinyer and it's a lot of work to sand like he did i do it in 3 coats 1stto cover the wall 2nd withn a lil more texture and creating good random designs when dry sand it a lil in the 2nd coat with 320 and then applly a thin even third coat polishing right awayas soon the wall can take it nd it will be awesome!

  • well, i did a lot venetian plasters and this is not a good film. this guy is showing american version of europeian history.....blahhh... will never work...

  • excellent straight to the matter .but one question do you need to apply a wax??

  • @eltonhef Not to get the shine. They don't make waxes specifically for synthetic venetian plaster that I'm aware of.

  • @tonystafki soap wax is good or butchers wax or beeswax both thinned with mineral spirits I've done it

  • Thanks Tony. We are all aware that this is not authentic venetian plaster. We all also realize that the majority of people can't afford authentic venetian plaster. This looks nice but I would recommend your customer get rid of the ugly popcorn ceiling. Kind of ruins the total affect. Good job on the video.

  • hi by synthetic you mean calce based? I'm working on Cap Arreghini Calce Grassello plaster, it is true italian plaster which is produced not far from Venice. I'm wondering you burnish it after layering have you ever tried to pre burnish it while applying it on the wall? Check my company video :) youtube.com/watch?v=tPHp0Z1KBs4

  • thank you. this is the first video on venetian plaster i've seen that states in the title synthetic. glad to know at least someone out there knows what true venetian plaster is. its sad to know that this is the future and to realize that the art and knowledge of crafts accumulated for centuries upon centuries is going to be lost within another generation or two if we're lucky.

  • @rexious5 The good news for authentic Venetian plaster is that it looks better and is washable. Plus, the synthetic Venetian is very hard for a homeowner to do on their own and contractors prefer the authentic plaster. There's still hope.

  • Thanks! Cleverly done and gorgeous finished product!

  • @ShewbieDo Thanks!

  • crap

  • this is absolute crap. u can not get REAL venetian plaster from home depo. home depo is for home owners not pros. do u charge people for this crap? i u do then u shoul be charged for fraude along with behr.

p.s. ur wall looks like shit

  • @TURNKEY81 Anyone who owns their own successful company and respects their customers knows they need to be able to offer their clients options. I offer both authentic and synthetic (Behr) product to my customers (showing them sample boards of each). Some don't want to pay for the authentic plaster (more expensive). I tell them everything up front: that Behr venetian plaster is not REAL and that it is not washable. I agree Behr should market it as a faux/synthetic venetian plaster.

  • Fantastic! Thanks for the education. I didn't even know that you could buy it in a can. I'm so excited.

  • Thanks for posting Tony. Your video was very informitive and entertaining.

  • try using minwax finishing paste that stuff makes it look awesome

  • be educated guys...this is not your old-fashioned plaster, it is a snythetic better wearing product that is supposed to look like installed marble, not old gyp and lime!nice job!but i burnish all, not sand

  • I love doing venetian plaster. I always impress myself even the plaster and glaze is doing the work.

  • Very nice. Wa to put yourself out there and post a video. The haters can be brutal in video land. Best to you .

  • Beautiful!!!!! That was alot of work. I love the way the light glows off it. Not too dark for the right setting and romance. Maybe for a strandard home it would be too dark. But this is not standard, it's art.

  • Pretty cool! Thanks!

  • i think you did a great job. and whats with the haters posting their comments :p

  • it's to damn dark!!!

  • Just out of curiosity. What was the beginning wall made of. Was that simply just painted drywall. Good job though looks good to me

  • I've been plastering for 28 years and after surviving the mexican bucket heads, now here comes the puttyknife kid opening a can of class action lawsuits. GREAT, I can't wait to fix this mess. Oh well I need some work.

  • you need to get some real plaster experience dude because you are working way to hard using that sythetic crap. A real lime plaster there is no sanding and you burnish when its 60-70% dry to mirror it out.......

  • Your working way to hard dude, a real lime plaster there is no sanding, and 2nd of all when burnishing a genuine plaster its all in the timing from wet to dry . If you burnish after it dries you are really working your ass off lmao Good luck to you and stay away from the synthetics

  • should be at least 3 coats....

  • i was always taught 1st layer vertical with a sweep to the left. 2nd coat horizontal with a sweep to the right. 3rd coat vertical with sweep to the right. this technique is a mish mash of randomness. no explanation of waxing . you can get better results yourself. 4/10

  • nice toni

  • una vera schifezza. tanta fatica x nulla

  • laudable :)

  • very nice i will try to do it,but i have to study the techinque

  • Tony Would like to know the application differences between the acrylic based and lime based plasters. I was looking at a product you recommended which offers high polish. The Firenzecolor (fine grain Marmorino) and another product Texston (Veneciano). These products supposedly offer best for high gloss look. Just would love any comments on theses products as opposed to the acrylic based VP's (which I believe Behr is). Thanks Tony

  • Tony can I seal plaster after burnished with a polyurethane as opposed to wax. The work is planned in a kitchen area.

  • I've never tried that so if I were you I'd make two small sheetrock samples and then try both regular and water-based polyurethane to see what happens...

  • @tonystafki Love the Plaster finish! Tell me, can you leave it after the first two steps. It looks kinda cool that way. Is the sanding and burnishing necessary?

    Thanks!

  • The PH is very high in the plaster..I would stay with the wax as it is made for venetian plaster

  • Beautiful results. I think I'll try that in my kitchen once I get the technique down.

  • Great Speed up on the vid, Too funny, Great job on the finished product.

  • Yes, with Behr Venetian plaster even after it's burnished it needs to be sealed which is a bummer because sealing it dulls the burnish look. Firenzecolor makes a venetian plaster which is burnished then waxed/sealed and it still retains its burnished, high-polish. Hope this helps! Tony

  • You can reburnish after sealer.

  • @tonystafki Hey tony, this is john from michigan. Robin Raymer "the plaster man" taught me a differnt way of applying venetain plaster in a three coat method....will your method turn out as nice?

  • hey, tony a quick question . in a high moisture room, if the plaster is burnished does it need to be sealed?

  • Yes, with Behr Venetian plaster even after it's burnished it needs to be sealed which is a bummer because sealing it dulls the burnish look. Firenzecolor makes a venetian plaster which is burnished then waxed/sealed and it still retains its burnished, high-polish. Hope this helps! Tony

  • I don't understand why you sand it. If the end goal is for it to be shiny then wouldn't it be better to just burnish it instead of sanding? What does sanding accomplish? Thanks

  • yeah i was thinking the same as you , i apply the second patten coat and after close it down and leave to dry , as its pulled in i trowle up the wall {shine up} once hardened i varnish with bees wax {hard wax} and rub off with wire wool then use the electric buffer with a sheepskin cover to buff up . this comes out 20 times mors shinny and brings out the pigments in the spatt finish...if you need some more tips give me a text .mickey8971

  • i gottA say for the kind of technique and the home depot "venetian plaster" you got it down and it looks terrific but I stiil not in love with the sanding technique even with the use of wax nd 600 or finer sandpaper i don't like the micro-scuffmarks produced by it.I like synthetic material for been so easy to work but tere is nothing like original marmorino lime - marble flour based venetian plaster is just another league. cheers

  • you rule

  • wow. that is a beautifull finish!

does the wall have to be flat or is it ok its its textured?

  • Haha, great video~

  • looked like that was hard check out firenzecolor for easier methods

  • This is the best video I've come across yet concerning venetian plaster, Thanks! You even used the exact color I want. What is the name? How can I can a waxy finished look instead of the high shine?

  • Thanks! Glad you liked it! This Venetian Plaster is made by Behr and sold at Home Depot (the color I used is the only chocolate color they have). Behr makes a wax you can put over it if you prefer that instead of the shine.

  • See..this is what is killing our trade...syntheic garbage that mass produced...try vasari plaster out of bend oregon..or other authentic venetian plaster..

  • Can you send me some more info. I'm trying to find out more about Venetian Plaster from Italy. Thanks!

  • Syntetic or not it looks great when you know how to do it!Beside, you dont pay double price for it like other "Authentic"plaster!

Behr ist good and I don't have any problem with it!

  • what is the product called?and where can you buy it.can you put it over lime plaster walls?

  • The product in this video is Behr Venetian Plaster and it is sold at Home Depot. I'm not sure if you can put it over lime plaster walls or not, I would think you could.

  • did you just apply that plaster onto a wooden wall?...

i could see big thin bits of wood running up the wall....

  • No, its actually a vinyl trailer home wall.

  • did you use prima and a basecoat beforehand ? what about a wax ontop of the venetian plaster ? looks great buddy nice work

  • Thanks! I did not use any primer. The wall had been painted with two coats of regular house paint so there was no need. If you were doing it on raw sheetrock you would need to apply a primer. You can put wax on top of venetian plaster but I don't simply because buffing it with the trowel gives me that great shine look that I like.

  • thanks for that mate, i've seen so many different ways of doing this..just want to do some research before i start wasting money on products i don't need.

  • Do you recommend to paint the wall first with the color I want to use (I love the chocolate color!) If so what type of finish (matte?)

  • You do not need to paint the wall first any certain color. The plaster completely covers up the existing paint on the wall. Hope this helps!

  • You can seal it with a sealer but I've found it dulls the shiny "marble" finish. As long as its not in a bathroom there is no need for a sealer.

  • thanks for the demo...do you need to seal it with a sealer afterwards????
